So i'm looking to buying a new gaming rig (Includes Monitor) for about ~$800.

I don't know much about parts (I do know somewhat), etc so i kinda need some help.

I'm not looking for anything extreme, an i3 or i5 will do.

(Take a look at my library, to get a glimpse at the type of games i will be playing)

Thanks..

Really? AMD hasnt done a lot on the processor end of things. Intel's processors are indeed better than AMD's in every bench ive seen. However, they are certainly pricy so Im with you on that.

Just look how well AMD did with bulldozer what was supposed to be the thing to step it up.

I would recommend an i5 and an HD 6870. c:
4 or 8 gb of ram of course, for memory.

And whatever motherboard you'd prefer.
Maybe someone else can help you on that

Get an ASROCK z67 extreme motherboard.

If it includes a monitor don't expect it to really be a "gaming" rig. Because even with bundled prices, they never include operating systems, disc drives, some don't have hard drives, power supplies. It's like $500 for 3 of them. Like a case, a processor, and a MOBO. Or a case, GFX card, and MOBO. Just save your money for now.

Go for something like an 15 2500k and at least a gtx 560ti 2gb FROZR model. I can run everything at max settings with that gfx card and an i7 2600k so far so you should be good to go with those.

Gonna be rough with that budget if you need OS, monitor, etc..

That's too tight.

Agreed with the other guys. What you really want to be looking at is an i5 2500K/3570K, a Z77 chipset MoBo and then something like a 560ti/6870 for your graphics card.

Even if you got a cheaper case, keyboard/mouse etc. You're still struggling with that budget because you really can't skimp on things like your PSU, just save up more money!

theres nothing wrong with 800 imo.
i got my system for about 800€ (ok thats a bit more) over 3 years ago and it still runs every new game on high details.
the only thing i lack is a dx11 card to get some ultra high specs...

800 spent on the system alone would be good, however starting from scratch and building an entire system on 800 just isnt enough. Any halfway decent monitor will set you back 200, the OS another 100. So 500 for a complete system ment for gaming? Even if its low end its kind of a stretch.

i5-3570k 220
Corsair H60 heatsink
60
8GB DDR3-1600 45 G.skill Ripjaws
AsRock Extreme4
120
Win 7 100
PSU cost
80
Case? 100
Monitor
200
GPU ~2/300 depending on just what you plan on doing and dependant on the monitor's rez. Use 1080p and a ti wont cut it imo.

I got the OCZ Fata1lty 750w modular. It works for my uses and is decent enough. Not a seasonic or Corsair pro but right under them.

Case is completely dependent on your taste. Runs about 60-100.
Add in a gpu or a pair of lower ends and your looking at exceeding your budget.

Id hold off till at least Xmas. Loads of deals and parts in general are cheaper. Might even have a higher budget. Best to spend a bit more now, then twice as much later.

750w PSU is WAY oversized. 450 up to max 550 should be perfectly fine, you'll only need more if you want to run a SLI/Crossfire combo

Agreed for most people. I did however mention near the bottom maybe getting 2 lower end cards for xfire/sli.
Also depends on the case and number of other peripherals, I have 6 fans, 4hdds, and 4USB devices that nearly always run so the extra room is good.

Well..maybe i can add a bit more, i don't know how much yet though because i have to pay off a few things first. My starting budget is $1,300 but yeah..

You know the budget and yet you suggest a mainboard for 120 bucks alone? And you add an additional CPU cooler? And with that budget the CPU itself is kind of oversized as well.

Yes I do. Allows upgrade options later down the road and its quality. 120 is NOT a lot for a mobo. The stalk cooler is just crap for the CPU, youd have to get a new cooler for most chips anyway. Could get an i3, or for a bit more get an i5 that will last a 5 years.

Granted, could cut it down to bare everything.
Ubuntu - 0
OEM mobo - 50
4GB - 35
i3- 130
550ti - 110
17in monitor - 60
and so on.

Well, with that budget you can't expect too much. But trying to stay near the budget I'd suggest something like this (although that's still ~900$):

Case: Thermaltake V3 50$
CPU: Intel Core i3-2120
140$
RAM: 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws 50$
MB: some ASUS P8H61
80$
PSU: anything 500W for 60$
GPU: GTX 550 Ti 120$
OS: Win7
100$
Monitor 200$
500GB HDD and cheap DVD
100$

Your steam profile says you're from The Netherlands, so maybe you actually have 800€? That would be some boost! :p

Also, you may want to have a look at this(+ monitor + Win7), thanks to smog0 for the link.

I'm not actually from there :P

I'm from the US.

Also i looked those parts up on Newegg and the total was $777.93, but maybe i didn't add the right ones. (For the $900 one you mentioned)

Well, I took the price in EUR (incl. VAT) and converted it to USD [That's because I don't know any sites to look up the US-american prices.], but it appears that stuff is quite a bit cheaper in the US.

And with the "additional" money, I'd suggest a GTX 560 Ti instead of a GTX 550 Ti.

I'd drop the cooler and stick with.. dare I say stock? Stock isn't -that- bad, but it does the job if he isn't planning to overclock and can deal with the noise. You can get a cheaper case and cut back on the PSU w.

Overall the rest is fine and $300 GPU I would assume would do far greater the job op expects for his current games at least judging from his profile.
