A lot of water-themed games in this, eh?

[Tier 1] Yono is worth my Celestial dollar, for sure.
[BTA] Had a rude Awakening regarding Arida's sale pricing, but I didn't have the dosh for T3. Not my best choice.
[Tier 3] I'm not Beyond buying this, despite the lack of a charity / money distribution slider.
[Expensive] Not games enough in T1; the embers of my wallet can't afford T3.
[Skip] These titles are too Alone-player for my tastes.
[Complaint] IGN call themselves "Down To Earth" after their greedy slider removal?

Not a bad bundle at all, if I didn't already own Tier 1 I would go for it for sure!

Well of course the first bundle after Humble removed the sliders would be one where I only want one game in T3.

Is it only in certain places? I'm in the US and I still have them.

Seems like it's only in certain places indeed, i'm in Colombia and i don't have them... that's a pity, i'm actually tempted about this bundle.

People are still trying to work out why some have and some don't. Last I looked they were possibly taken away if you were in the habit of giving HB nothing, but also might have been removed for people who have used the sliders at all.
I've given HB zero almost exclusively ever since the kerfuffle about them locking people's accounts, as at least I could write it all off as a charitable donation if they ever stole all my keys.

I always forgot to change it but still can't see it.

I always made sure Humble and the Publishers got part of the money. The charity of my choice always got the larger percentage though. They removed the feature from my account too, so it can't be that. Unless they expected people to give the charity very little.

Same for me. Usually gave HB 10, publishers 20 and the rest to charity and they removed it from my account too 🤷🏻‍♀️

Won Figment here and enjoyed it very much, Yono looks like a decent game too so Tier 1 is pretty good choice.

For y'all worrying about sliders, someone on Reddit made a script. Idk if it works on the backend though, but it fixed the visual for me.

Is working! Thx!

Np! The main concern would be that it doesn't work on HB's side, just on our side.

That's what I assumed. That really does suck tho. Especially bc less than a dollar is going to charity with the default sliders.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work. Just seems to help on the user's end but not the backend.

So even if I see sliders, they don't work?

If u see it using that extension, it doesn't work. If you saw it before the extension, from what I can tell, it works.

Also, in case you're wondering here's an image of the default vs. custom sliders for T3. Charity only gets less than a dollar (even less bc it's split between two).

$0.7 vs $4.2 is quite sad to see.

Extremely. Had a friend create a new account and set all to a single charity and they saw their (converted)14.84 donation show up as 10.67 for charity if you were curious. They are non-US citizen so conversion is going to be some of that, as well as admin fees and whatnot.

Wow, yeah that's bad. They could have left the sliders and set a minimum amount that you could give Humble. Doing it this way seems kinda gross.

Wasn't the default HB tip 10 or 15% in the beginning? I've always thought that 80/10/10 (devs/charity/hb) was a fair share. They got really greedy, and even taking away from the charities, which is (was?) their major selling point, wow...

Permalink

I can't speak on that. I was only introduced to HB in October of 2020.

Was too late. I saw 8,24 Euro BTA but I am sure it was lower on the start.

Anyway, can anyone tell me what are currently game bundle days if there is any rule. I still used to Tuesday and possibly Thursday, but that has changed and currently I am not sure:)

There is no schedule anymore, they release bundles whenever they see fit. Probably to prevent us from playing the "catch the lowest BTA" game.

Only really interested in Lost Ember. Might have bought it for charity, if I would have been able to select my own - preferably one related to the bundle theme, like Whale and Dolphin Conservation - and if they didn't remove the sliders for me. Now, no buy.

T2 would've been interesting if I hadn't already gotten most of those games from other bundles or for free (Yono was at the Chrono.gg coin shop).

Only Lost Ember is an interesting game I'm missing. But it's still tempting enough to consider tier 3.

There are some good looking games here, but I'm a bit worried that these are artsy games with bad/boring gameplay. I really can't stand games that look good but are not fun to play (examples: GRIS, Rime, Beyond Eyes, Candle, Old Man's Journey). I'll probably have to look into them carefully before joining GAs.

Otherwise Summer in Mara is in my favorite genre (farming sim), but the bad reviews bother me a bit. This probably isn't a bad bundle but it's a skip from me.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm with you on all of the titles you mentioned and what you said about them except for Candle. Loved it. Paid full price and have no regrets.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Haha, to each their own. Candle would fit more into "bad gameplay", it's got speed puzzles requiring precision while the controls are clunky. Being stuck for 15 minutes redoing a puzzle because the game itself doesn't work well is a no-no for me. To be fair though, I got it for free from Lootboy and it's not a game I would seek out and buy otherwise.

I really liked Old Man's Journey, but one of its redeeming features is being really short. Even just 3-5 hours of that would be torture. I hope GRIS will be okay for me.

Gris is absolutely unbearable.

This is probably the vocal minority! It's such a popular game that when people get a chance to say that they're not fans of it they're probably going to take it. If you can go into the game just enjoying the visuals and the messages it's trying to convey, you'll probably think it's great, but at its core it's just a bare bones platformer with nothing much you can do.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I genuinely hope it will go well for me. I played too many "artsy" games where the lack of gameplay and the length made it painful. Like, I prefer doing some good gameplay while listening to some simpler stuff, or having some really quality listening while doing the minimum (walking sims). I barely know anything about GRIS besides animation is nice, and the themes about depression or something.

Permalink

If it helps, I adored GRIS. At the beginning it just looked fabulous but with each chapter the gameplay also progressed in huge steps.

Then I'll add something on the contrary : :D I really enjoyed Gris.

( And among this because I found here one of the best 2D underwater gameplay, too. )

Interesting to see, as I dropped Rime for the not fun gameplay, but enjoyed GRIS.

From this bundle I played Never Alone and the platforming is definitely rough.

That's also interesting, because both Rime and GRIS cover the 5 stages of grief. I guess it's about how you present the message...

Having finished Summer in Mara before, I can say it's a really nice family (playing with kids) adventure game with farming / crafting mechanics, but mainly fetch quests galore! Crafting and farming is necessary for doing quests, but it's not a main gameplay mechanic. It's also too linear and silly for adult gamers, I enjoyed it fully with my 2 year old kid :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ah gotcha, then it wouldn't be for me. A big part in my love for farming sims is the relaxing atmosphere, but the feeling of always having something I can do with my time in the game is important too. A linear game consisting of fetch quests probably isn't what I'm looking for.
