But how do you prove that it was not you? Since its your IP that has been used...
Comment has been collapsed.
Not sure where you live but just having that flagged on you IP will not get you arrested. It will spark an investigation for sure but it probably wouldn't take them long to figure out that it was just a vpn.

You would be correct there.
Also, don't search DBX. While it is my username on a few of those sites (didn't want to use my regular nick in case of people searching it), it isn't on all of them. Apparently an artist of that type uses DBX as his own nick. :P

wow. that was a really inappropriate joke. ._.
swatted. (good thing you're using hola. it wasn't that hard to track down your hats.)

My neighbour has no password on their wi-fi. I just use that when I do google searches for [deleted, I regret everything] and such. So convenient!
Edit - That was a joke, please don't actually search for that. It was something I learned from deviantart where I sell commissions and stuff. I assumed from the context people would realize it was unwholesome.
Comment has been collapsed.
I seriously wouldn't actually search for that. It is an art request I get a lot on deviantart and I looked for examples one time...

I will try that, I will search for some tutorials on how to use it properly.

seriously? you're warning people about hola but you're cool with tor?
Comment has been collapsed.
Whats bad with tor?, I don't really know much about this stuff man. If you can tell me if Tor is doing the same things as Hola that would be helpful
Comment has been collapsed.
i probably don't know more than you do. i'm just surprised to see you trust it blindly. i heard many rumors about it way before than hola. if i were you, i'd do my research well before using it.
Comment has been collapsed.
if you say so. like i said, i don't really know, don't really care. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i'd call it being surprised instead of warning or caring.

Indifference is best expressed by inaction. Which you neglected to do. Or not do. If I were truly indifferent to this discussion I would not add to it. That's how one demonstrates that one does not care.

Well, I will steal your argument here if you don't mind, I liked it.

Yeah that's why I put the reddit link, they also point out this, however, the developer of Hola confirmed that they sell your bandwidth

Wow, what a VPN.
"Get VPN so I can do this illegal thing" -download a tv show torrent
Someone else gets same free VPN to do something illegal.
Hola gives the other guy your IP address to use. -hosts some kiddie porn
Feds knock down your door ...

I used it for Spotify, it's not available here and I just log in with Hola on to play.spotify.com every 2 weeks so i can keep access, but 2 days ago it acted strange, when I saw the news, I never gave a second thought... I don't really care about my privacy, but my upload is really low and I can't afford that.

I already tested it. It won't work for http://plug.dj

Well, after some investigation, yesterday I found a really good and more reliable free VPN. Its developed by the University of Tsukuba in Japan. It is open source so they can't just hide malicious code there without anyone noticing. Its a little slower than Hola and is not a browser plugin, is a client. Its fairly easy to use. The website is http://www.vpngate.net/en/
JUST REMEMBER, REMEMBER TO TURN OFF THE VPN BEFORE YOU ACTIVATE OR LOGIN OR DO ANYTHING IN YOUR STEAM ACCOUNT, THEY DON'T LIKE VPNs. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU LIVE IN USA AND YOUR IP MAGICALLY CHANGES TO UKRAINE OR BRAZIL.

Neat. May try it out. Will probably just do on my laptop so I don't use VPN on steam by accident on anything.

I found that too yesterday, unfortunately I'm not sure I understood how it worked. Might take another look.
I was looking around at VPN options when I started to notice that some of them didn't have Braziliian servers (useful for Nuuvem), including a few of the paid ones. Private Internet Access, which I believe is one of the more popular paid VPNs only got Brazilian servers literally 2 days ago according to their facebook page as an example.
Searching specifically for Brazilian ones I ended up at that university site too.

I tried the Brazilian server yesterday, the Fukuba University vpn just have one brazilian server and it only have like 3Mbps connection, so its slow but I bought games at Nuuvem with it. Patience you need my young padawan, when using this server.

Someone asked a good question.
"If I wanted to still use hola, just only when I need it and not leave it on, would hitting the power button on the extension work or would I have to disable the extension through settings? It states that it uses my net if the system is idle, does this mean chrome has to be open, or just any time at all?"
When hola is on it's controlling your internet as a proxy, but when it's off, it's off right? Or is it still controlling in the background?

In the main post I state than even if you turn off Hola it can still use your bandwidth to be used by 3rd parties, the article(remember that the article is written to also promote another VPN so yeah) states that and in the Reddit discussion they also state this.
Comment has been collapsed.
At the Reddit the most recommended free VPNs are Zenmate(only for Chrome) and VPNGATE(its not an extension it is a client and its developed by the University of Fukuba in Japan as an Open Source project.

Well, even the developer of Hola confirmed that by using the service they can sell your bandwidth to 3rd parties.
And if someone use your bandwidth/connection to see some pedo stuff, hell thats bad... Of course the probabilities are low, but here we are, in Steamgifts where everything is about probabilities.
Don't think that by turning off Hola the problem is solved. I personally use Hola just to buy games and uninstall it right away, but, with this info, I will not even do that anymore, I will just buy a VPN for like 3 bucks a month or something, because at the end of the day remember, when something is free, normally is because you are the product.

UPDATE: SORRY FOR THE CAPS BUT I NEED TO MAKE CLEAR SOMETHING, IF YOU ARE USING A CLIENT BASED VPN REMEMBER TO TURN OFF THE VPN BEFORE YOU ACTIVATE OR LOGIN OR DO ANYTHING IN YOUR STEAM ACCOUNT, THEY DON'T LIKE VPNs. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU LIVE IN USA AND YOUR IP MAGICALLY CHANGES TO UKRAINE OR BRAZIL. ALSO I RECOMMEND TO NEVER INTRODUCE IMPORTANT PERSONAL ACCOUNT CREDENTIALS WHILE USING VPN, SPECIALLY A FREE ONE.
I AM NOT AN EXPERT IN THIS MATTER SO YOU ARE BETTER OFF CONSULTING ONE IF YOU HAVE FURTHER DOUBTS.
So far I have found some alternatives(thanks to the steamgifts community and reddit), I have no way to confirm if they are more reliable so make your own investigation.
-Zenmate (Only for Chrome)
-vpngate (Open source developed by Fukuba University in Japan, client based, slower than hola specially when using the brazilian server)
-Tor (its a browser, I don't have experience with it, I just know its used to access .onion domains aka deepweb)
