There is currently another topic on bundled/region-restricted gifts and the ever-rising rant and arguments on whether it is fair or not to give full CV for those and how people can abuse the system and stuff. It's all been said for a number of times already and I doubt I'm able to suggest anything meaningful.

But I just had an idea: what if we think of CV not as "monetary contribution", but rather "community contribution"? In that sense, region-restricted gifts do not contribute to community as much as ROW gifts, but they often contribute more than the bundled 15%. So, what if the CV for the region-restricted gifts would be normalized by the number of users on SG from that region?

Pros:

  • motivates users to contribute ROW gifts
  • fairly represents the community contribution

Cons:

  • doesn't actually take into account the wage differences
  • demotes users from low-wage and low-representation regions

The main flaw, as it seems to me, would be that this system will promote the NA and RU+CIS regions and demote the rest.
