Hi everyone,
So probably just like most of people here I'm using steam trading cards, I'm mostly farming them, then selling, buying more games with them and so the circle is going. I'm quite patient guy so I had a lot of those cards listed on market for prices a bit higher than those on minimal listings and so I was selling those cards slowly but steadily. But since about 2 days ago they started selling like crazy, I'd say about 5-6 times more cards sold daily than before - anyone has any idea why the sudden surge? Is someone trying to stock up for Steam Sale or something? O_o

TL;DR: Cards I had listed on market suddenly started selling A LOT faster - why?

Crafting badges gets you Summer Sale "Mystery" cards instead of coupons.

So you think Summer Sale is the reason for this after all?

Of course, no other reason. In the last 24 hours, about 2k of each of the sale cards were sold. That means 20k new badges were created only by the sold amount, that doesn't include all those that weren't sold yet.

How do these Summer Sale "mystery" cards work? What's the point? Dumb question. But this is new to me. :)

Just cards to sell or craft into a special badge. Most people just view it as a little extra money for their Steam Wallets.

I'm level 25 have 53 games eligible for Boosters and have only ever gotten 1 so far and that was last month, so this huge influx of badges being created really sheds light on just how rare boosters are, crazy.

I get about one a month. I'm level 17 and have 95 booster-eligible games.

I get at least one booster per week. I have 385 game eligible and am level 85. My brother's account has around 300 eligible games as well, but he's only level 7. His booster pack rate isn't far behind me. Level doesn't really seem to be that effective until you get an absurd amount of eligible games.

Sounds like it, thats insane...once a week sounds great tho but you paid your dues and put in your badge grinding to earn that :).

It's more about picking up a lot of games. My booster rate probably wouldn't be much different if I didn't bother with levelling much.

That's an incredible amount of games with cards. I have another 55 games I could max out, but I wait to play them until Playfire will pay me to do it. :)

You only miss the "play for the first time" rewards by getting the cards now. Really not sure it's going to be worth waiting for Playfire to maybe add the games to rewards at a later date. That's potentially quite a few missed opportunities at booster packs. Plus, selling the cards at potentially a higher price.

Yeah, but they all add up. I've earned a couple of dollars in the past few days simply from "play for the first time" rewards, plus the really easy achievements from Ampu-Tea.

Grabbing the cards won't prevent you from gaining additional achievements. And I really think you're actually losing more by waiting just for the cheapest rewards. Especially since there's no guarantee that the games will get added. Even more so now with card prices raising a bit with the sale incoming.

That and keep in mind that Playfire is a loss leader promotion. Eventually it will become restricted or removed. So there is a lot of risk in counting on it.

The prices drop because of the greenlight keys. A bunch of people get the game all at once and flood the market with cards. If the keys went out sooner, the badge price would also drop sooner.

Yea I sold like 3 in less than a day, not that I'm interested in selling them since I love how they look on my inventory, but I had repeated ones

Oh, thanks for the info. I've got a bunch of cards and booster packs sitting around doing nothing. Might as well sell em now.
