How could this possibly work? The gifter always sees the SG and Steam profiles of the winner, it's listed to the gifter before the public (though it didn't used to be) - so how could anyone claim to be someone they're not when the gifter has the info already? Falling for this would be all kinds of retarded :|

Well, people like you and me are resistant against guys like that. But there might be some guys, maybe new to steamgifts, who trust these guys and get scammed.

I've seen a number of threads about the very thing since joining. Especially on first giveaway, the user may feel pressured to complete the gift in a timely manner, allowing for easy mistakes.

People will stoop to incredible lows to gain something. There were and still are groups of people that scam disaster victims like Sandy Hill, Katina, 9/11 and so on in an effort to make money. Lets not even bother bringing up the likes of terrorists and that such who kill, maim, and destroy for a sick and twisted ideal.
Personally, I think anyone that takes advantage of people should be shot in the head, or at the very least prevented from spreading their genes and ideals.

i really dun think that's such a big problem unless people are foolish enuff not to check who won their giveaway.
That would be their own carelessness me thinks.

They used to do this before, which is why the names are now private until redeemed.
Though, some people still fall for it. BEWARE

How does that differ from what he said? You dont understand something apparently before. This is a common thing, and use to be even more so when the site was younger. However, back then the winner's names were public which lead to people spoofing profiles and claiming gifts. We clearly understand that people are still doing this, but are just unable to spoof the winner's profile, which means gifters just have to be more vigilant in double checking and reporting of scammers.

They don't. But that doesn't stop them from saying they are the winner.

Hey there!
Be careful, there are users on steamgifts, which watch giveaways that ended, add the creators and say they've won and want the game.
Just wanted to tell you guys to be careful. Always add the winner yourself!
