Depending on the crime you may not need to hide it at all.
Torrenting for instance: Depending on who you get a letter from (if at all), it can be considered Illegal Wiretapping which is a far worse crime.

Well, that's cute and all, but do you actually believe that it's about terrorism?
This exists only for profit. They want to sell YOU. You, as a consumer. Things like your interests, sexual preferences, fetishes, religion, looks, phobias, name, address, family, work, relationships and so on.

For some reason the NSA has still a pretty bad track record, plus the TSA has an abysmal history.
In 2015 those idiots managed to only get 5% of the "terrorists" that were sent through to test the system. Not to mention the recent controversy where a kid was patted down for an unreasonable amount of time. Watch the whole thing, without skipping and then say that it was necessary and normal..

It's called feigning incompetence so the bad guys don't know how good you are.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, somehow I don't think that's the case...
It's not like the terrorists will say: "Oh? The percentage is only 5%? Now I'll use the airport!"
The main thing that you'll affect is public opinion of you. People already disliked the TSA. Now they hate it.
Plus, people who thought they were annoying still expected them to be effective to some point.
Now they've caused worry and panic.
Like, I get your idea. It's great to just guess these crazy theories, but I think we both know that that's just a bit too far over the line to even take seriously.
Otherwise you could just say that France allowed the Paris attacks to coax more terrorists to come in, so they could arrest more of them at once.

You're patently wrong, this is so that big business can profit off of people's information in ways they could not before because we had protection under the law. This is something TrumpCo wanted from the beginning and why their pet FCC’s new Republican chairman, Ajit Pai, made sure it went through.

That would cost a lot more here. You cannot just pay off some senators and be done with it. You need to convince at least the entire German government, then most of the other countries. Not even the combined funds of Apple, Google, and MicroSoft were enough for them to bother with it, they rather chose to comply to the much more user-oriented approach here.

Granted, not everything is sugar and rainbows here either. This summer there will be a vote that, if accepted, will end the era of net neutrality here, pushing some high-paying services/sites to a premium lane category.

You might not be up to date about this topic. Afaik some loopholes, based on vague descriptions in what would be allowed for premium services, have been closed. So there'll be prioritized services, but only few selected and it won't result in throttling down other uses.

Most independent experts are very satisfied, so I don't see why we should not. And even if something should have been overseen and get abused, we see the clear will to avoid that. So it would certainly get fixed asap.

I read something new on this like three months ago, so not the one accepted last year. that one was hailed as a great win, I remember that. Maybe what I read was just some hoax though, but it was dealing with a two-lane setup where it was possible for providers to sell premium accessibility to companies.

Comment has been collapsed.

My little timeline:

Started in 1912 or so, when the Federal Reserve was created. Constitutional rights were voided with the signing of this, and without anybody's approval. This shady group would begin to gain total world control, and it has for the most part succeeded today, virtually in the shadows.
Step 1 complete.

Fast-forward to 1929 - Scare tactics were used during the stock market crash (which was set up by the big boys all pulling funds out at the same time to kill it, then offering safe protection in their banks, thus channeling practically all monies into their own banks).
Next, once fully established, money was loaned at interest. Every bit of coin was loaned at interest, thus creating extra money out of absolutely nothing. This was the beginning of the end for the dollar, and those with the power gained everything... Step 2 complete.

New bills and laws are making more and more laws and censorship in favor of corporations, ever since the 70's and 80's, starting with perfecting the psych ops and the press being a tool to make puppets out of many, creating an easily manipulated public... CEO's started to get into cabinet spots, thus gaining a "direct catbird seat into what goes on at the top" (Regan and Merrill Lynch as an example). The corruption started to spread even further, with easier loopholes and less opposition. Fear tactics were used with a lot of things I won't get into that has scientific evidence to back it up, contrary to many American's popular belief on events [War on (pick your poison)] to win on both fronts, the pretend "good" and pretend "bad", paying off both sides to make money on both fronts. Step 3 complete.

Once enough people are crippled by the bioweapons that are/have been planted in various forms, mainly vaccines, chem trails, foods, pharmaceuticals, etc, and cannot fight back, die, etc., Step 4 will be in motion. Ensuing Police State begins at breaking point, and everyone with nothing left will have no more freedom at all. Beginning of the end for many. The rich must survive at this breaking point, since there will be too little resources with too many people. Many will be eradicated, and those top few that already own 90+% of everything in the world of real value will try to survive with what is left for themselves.

The negative numbers skyrocket, thus giving those above the numbers more and more power. Debt has created a slavery system that none of the average people can escape, simply being beasts of burden - meanwhile the Federal Reserve system continues to profit off money created from thin air, and since it cannot be sustained and paid off, they just take resources in exchange, almost like a foreclosure system, but on a massive scale, everything being fair game.

We are already slaves of the machine, and it's probably too late, but I have hope that Earth will rebel, and completely end the human race, or the human race will continue its own path toward its self-imposed destruction... Every empire falls eventually.

I'm quite the cynic, eh?

Yeah, just my idea... who knows what the truth is, or the motivation, or if any of it really means anything. I do wonder about this "Federal Reserve" system... who owns it, and what the hell is going on with the interest that is being created and devaluing everyone else's own crap they use as currency to trade for other crap....

Orc-dung is right! Yeah, I just hope the winners of my own are not blacklisting me... I would cry. I guess most of mine are not public anyway these days aside from my lyme page here and there... Even then they're invite only, but I guess it still counts as public or something.

It's simply that most people think it is cheaper to get the phone from the carrier instead of the manufacturer.

It ends up being cheaper if you buy it directly from the manufacturer. AT&T for instance tries to make a higher profit margin off of devices than the manufacturer does.

You're essentially cutting out the middleman when you buy from the manufacturer instead.
You also aren't getting features cut out of your phone.

I was stupid and bought an LG G3 from AT&T.
AT&T removed the radio, wireless charging, and a few others from my phone.

If I had bought from LG, I'd still have all of that and it would have been cheaper.

So does that mean that you no longer have to pay into the Universal Service Fund or the Connect America Fund (which is a government subsidy provided to telecoms to build out and maintain their network coverage)? Or is this to just allow telecoms to exponentially increase their profits?

Will there be any potential upsides to allowing these companies the right to sell your data (that is traveling over their networks - 'their' networks having been built by your tax dollars)?
