As above, with the option to view only DLC for owned games and a button* in packages to add free licenses it's very useful if you only want to pick and choose. Found a lot of DLC I didn't have even after checking steam pages when I get a new game.
Some may be cosmetic. That is, the DLC content was already added to the base game so you don't really need the license. It's useful if you want to see ownership of the DLC in your Steam library on other sites (For example, Steamgifts).
For example, the content of these were added to the base game Dead by Daylight but you can get a complimentary license.
Dead by Daylight - A Lullaby for the Dark
Dead by Daylight: The Last Breath Chapter
If you go to the Steam store pages for those, you'll see "Notice: <DLC name> is a free update that is automatically included in Dead by Daylight on Steam".
*SteamDB browser extension/add-on required

thanks - question i know there is something about a 50 key limit or 50 packages - would i need to do this check multiple times to see them all and how long would or should you wait between checks to not make Steam have problems - is it one a day for example
also if i hit the ignore button is that dlc gone for good or will it come up next time i check as i might want it later and wouldn't want to miss out on it

When you activate 50 packages, you get locked out of activating more for an hour.
If you use steamdb for the packages with their extension and leave the page open, the site will automatically activate 50 packages every hour.
No idea about the second thing, but I suppose that it should not come up later.

is there a way to add them from Steamdb one at a time - like pick one from the list and install it on it's own (as i of course play or have interest in some dlc more than others)

Click the package number in the list. You'll get a page for the package and you can activate the license on that page.

50 activations/hour. The info is all on the page.
If you want to pick and choose, click the package number to do each one individually.
Anything you ignore is removed from the "Activate these packages" section but will be listed in a section labeled "Packages you have ignored" below if you scroll down. You can reset your ignored list.

You can activate 50 packages per hour- it will tell you so if you try to activate more. As free packages are added permanently you might want to check from time to time.
Don't know if 'ignore' is permanent maybe someone else can enlighten us?
