Hi.
So a friend of mine told me of this game that he says it's amazing and cheap and on sale, so I went to buy and look at that: I have enough money in my Steam Wallet to buy 2 of it so I thought of giving one here.

I just won my fifth game here, I really enjoying the forum and being level one does sound nice, so I want to give it back but I have a few questions. I know I already saw a post about it but I can't find it, so I apologize if I'm just being dumb.

Anyways, here are my questions:
1) How do I know if this game is gonna help me reach level one? (I know some doesn't count, but how do I check that?)
2) I have read that I can't gift someone from other countries, or specific countries, because I'm gonna buy on Steam as a gift (I don't have the key) and there are price problems with the exchange or something. I'm not sure, how do I know to whom I can gift on Steam? I'm from Brazil.

Anyway, I would love to know HOW to know those things, but since it's my first time if someone can be nice enough to just tell me the answer for this one I would appreciate.

As I say, i'm from Brazil, the game is DISTRAINT: Deluxe Edition, in here is, on sale, R$2,09 but according to SteamDB in the US is costing $0,99.
Can I create a Worldwide giveaway, if so, am I gonna be level one with that (or at least closer)?

As for creating a giveaway, if it can be sent anywhere, you don't need to worry about region restrictions. Basically, it should say in your gift library what countries you can give it to. Otherwise, I believe there's a thing about a price difference, but I'm not an expert, so I can't tell you that part. The FAQ answers this, but as long as it doesn't have 2 of those little stars (*), then it should give you level 1. If the giveaway has 1 star, that means only 15% of it will count. No stars means 100%, while 2 stars means no value. However, from what the FAQ (Which I really suggest you read it anyways to get a full understanding) says, you only need $0.01 to reach level 1 so even a 1 star giveaway should work. Hopefully this answers most of your questions, if not all of them. Keep in mind at least 5 people have to enter it, but if it's a level 0 giveaway you should be fine. (And yes, I had to edit this multiple times cause the star kept giving me problems ;-;)
(Edit 2: as jgr76 and APocketfulofStars pointed out, it looks like your game is a 2 star, which means no cv ;-;-;-;-;)

I don't have a 'gift library', I don't think so, at least. I plan to 'buy for a friend' on Steam and I read somewhere in the forum that there are limitations because of different prices in different countries. I'm trying to figure out all the kinks now.

But thank you, and yeah that Star thing, one would think that stars are good, that's what Mario taught me at least ;)

Ha, I know right? Mario should always be right! Anyways, you're welcome and I hope you enjoy the rest of your time here on SG :P

here's a list with each level and how much cv you need https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/XaCbA/

if you're in a region-locked country you can only send steam-gifts for that... region.
your store price also limits who can redeem your gifts. the winner of your giveaway can't have prices in their steam store than yours (it's ~10%), in your case being from Brazil means you can only gift to others from Brazil (there are exceptions with some games that have almost the same price in other SA stores, but it rarely happens).

if you want to gift ROW games, buy keys from resellers like humble bundle.
just be sure to check the keys aren't region-locked (it happens with some developers and publishers).

so, in short, region-lock your giveaways to BR, or buy ROW keys from other sites. =3

Thank you for the link.
The price thing was what was in doubt, I saw that somewhere but could not remember the details, thank you. Apparently I can give for other countries but have to check which ones has similar pricing.

Good on you for picking a game people might actually want for your first gift!

1) When you're entering the name of a game on the giveaway creation page, there will be one asterisk next to the game if it's been bundled or severely discounted, which means you'll get fewer CV points (15%). You'll get none at all if it's been given away for free, in which case the game will have two asterisks.

Unfortunately, I checked the game you picked and it was given away for free at some point, so it won't get you to Level 1.

2) Games rarely have region restrictions unless they're AAA, but you can check by putting the game in your cart and pretending to gift it. The Steam page will tell you if it's restricted. You can read more and see examples on the Steam FAQ here.

Since Distraint's a no-CV game, I looked for a few other good games that were the same price or lower in the Steam store right now (at least for me.) Maybe you can give one of these instead!

Downwell (Full CV!)
Space Pilgrim I
oO
Reveal the Deep (Full CV!)
Zasa: An AI Story

They're all cheap, and none of them are shovelware. Happy gifting! :)

My biggest doubt wasn't for Region Restricted, but that I saw in some post -- that I forgot to save -- that Steam don't let people gift others if the price changes too much from a country to another. If i can't figure it out I'll just do a Brazilian lock one, but I really wanted to be worldwide.

Too bad about Distraint though, I heard really good things, but thanks for all the options and the answers, gonna check this games and look for others too. Not gonna give up gifting :)

I don´t know about the region restrictions, but I Distraint is a no CV game, meaning it won´t give you any level progress at all. When creating a giveaway if next to the game name it shows a star it means it has reduced CV, if it has 2 (like in this case) then it has no CV at all.

That sucks, my friend made such high praises for this game and I want to give something people can actually play but I don't have a lot of money for that. Gonna try and look for others though, there are already some suggestions ^^

Another good way to hit level 1...just go buy tier one of one of the latest Humble Bundles or a bundle on Fanatical. They're filled with pretty good games and are cheap (sometimes the first tier is only a buck). You'll be able to level up fast. I have just over a year under my belt around here, and am more than halfway to level 9. Now, I'm a key hoarder and you shouldn't goal yourself with following my example, but it's actually pretty easy to make, say, level 5 by just being judicious about keeping an eye out for inexpensive bundles with good game value.

And, of course, as you level up, you get access to a lot better giveaways. So, being generous definitely pays off.

Welcome, and good luck!

I don't really buy bundles. I don't have a international credit card, plus the ones I usually see it the difference doesn't make as worth it thats why I wanted to give something as a gift from my wallet. But I'll keep that in mind about the levelling up, thank you, thought was something pretty hard after the first one :)

Ok, just to be sure, let's say I decided to give this game that were suggested (don't know if it's gonna be this one, but so I can make sure I understood this).
In this link
https://steamdb.info/app/360740/

So I use the Brazilian Real currency and all the countries that in the 'CONVERTED PRICE' tab has a green percentage I can give to, correct?
So, if I were to give this game I would have to allow only Brazil, Argentina, Turkey and Russia to paticipate, is that it?
Thank you so much for the help so far, though.
