UPDATE:

This tool no longer required to get rid of the notifications, you can turn them off in the steam client's setting by navigating to :
Settings/Friends/Group events and announcements
and uncheck Display a notification.

There is no point using this tool anymore!

Windows only!

What is It?
This is a very simple app for blocking event notifications. It automatically closes event notification windows when they appears. The app runs in the background and starts with windows startup so just install it and you don't have to care about it anymore.

How to install?
Unzip the winrar archive and run install.bat

How to uninstall?
You can uninstall the program anytime running uninstall.bat

How it works?
This app creates a little program that running in the background all the time (it uses as little amount of resources as possible). It checks for steam's event notification windows every second and closes them. The program starts automatically with Windows.

Is it safe?
It's totally safe. The program not using any injection method or bothering steam files. It only using windows API to detect event notification windows and closes them automatically

The program is tested for now its working no crashes.

Changelog:

1.0
- First release
1.0.1
- Removed VC Redist 2015 dependency (executable's size increased)
- Replaced the 'cp' with 'copy' command in the batch installer

Tell me if you have any kind of compatibility problems!

Neat idea for a tool. I don't necessarily need it though, and I'd rather wait a bit and see some "reviews" about it first. :P

this. because of gleam giveaways and my laziness, i'm around 350 groups. and Id say around 50 of them post every new freebie within seconds of each other. annoying is an understatement.

You don't have to stay in groups for gleam. It still thinks I'm in all the groups I left months ago

why windows only?

Because the program uses a very operation system specific solution. It should be fully rewritten for any other operations systems.

Seems like you've done a great job. Will see for myself once the program is available to download through Github. For now, have a whitelist.

Requires VC++ 2015 Redistributable, probably x86 version
Also we have an error during installation:
Can't find process "senb.exe". unknown command or file "cp"
P.S. Win7 x64

i will remove the redist dependency soon
might be the cp is win10 specific command i will fix it
and yes it was built for 32 bit systems so it needs x86 version

it's not a win10 specific command, it's not included in ANY windows OS [by default].

cp is nix-based. copy is dos-based.

Nice tool. I've had group event notifications minimize a game I was in before, which is super annoying and fucking retarded.

Nice but even better if you could customize to only show notfications of certain groups (10%) and disable others (90%).
Then you deserve a medal.

funny how valve "couldn't" do this in 6 years since the first request to remove notifications, and it's always someone else that fix their crap.

This was useful, but I found out (late) that the Steam client allows suppressing notifications: Settings -> Friends -> For group events and announcements -> uncheck Display a notification

Thanks!

It is a newer feature that wasn't available when this program was made. This topic is over a year old now.

I know. I commented so that other users who were using this script and were (like me) unaware that it's no longer needed will use the settings instead. I also wanted say thanks one more time :-)
