So I saw this game on Steam called System Shock 2. It looks pretty neat, with it's psychological horror and stuff. So, does anyone know if it'd worth it?

For the younger ones around:

From Bioshock's wikipedia page - "The game is considered a spiritual successor to the System Shock series, which many of Irrational's team including Levine had worked on previously."

From System Shock 2 wikipeadia page - " In 2007, Irrational Games released a self-proclaimed spiritual successor to the System Shock series, titled BioShock, to critical acclaim and strong sales."

I knew that BioShock was based off of System Shock.

Thats just great. Its even "more great" if you are below 16 :P

P.S. BTW it was not targeted specifically at you. Mentioned it because, as i said in another thread, around these forums Fallout: New Vegas is considered "classic".

It's true but still they are like two completely different games. Playing Bioshock and expecting a System Shock underwater or playing System Shock and expecting Bioshock in space only leads to disappointment.

I was disappointed while playing Bioshock... I thought it was gonna be like system shock, but NOOOO.

It´s similiar to the first Deus Ex, but the graphics are pretty old. If you don´t care it´s still a good game :)

Actually, I love old 3D graphics. I dunno why, but I do. Which is why I prefer original Valve games that use the Half-Life engine over the versions that use the Source engine

Then give it a try :) In my Opinion actually the price is too high for such an old game.
I mean it´s 14 years old ^^

I just compelted a few days ago, and I have to say...Great Game.
As a lover of the original Deus Ex I heard a lot that System Shock was its father, and indeed it was that good.

Here is what I wrote right after completion :

I never got the chance to play the game when I was younger, and now that I finished it, I know how much I missed. As a huge fan of Deus Ex I totally understand how System Shock 2 is said to be its father.

The interface is a bit rudimentary but solid, graphics are not bad (good even for an old game) gameplay is great and story solid and really well made. I also really like the specialization choices at the beginning of the game which give more meat to the character compared to a simple "select you traits" in most RPGs.

The only slightly negative point I can see is that we often have to go back and forth, which is greatly sped up once you know that moving in two directions simultaneously increases greatly moving speed.

I totally recommand this game for any fan of real good FPS games.

Was not that easy to find the hidden giveaway letters but I did it! First entry, seems too hard for others.

It's an excellent game. The atmosphere and gameplay are both very well done, in my opinion. I do feel that the whole "upgrade your character's stats" thing it has detracts rather than adds to the game though. Be aware that it's well over a decade old and it shows (but there are patches to improve the textures and models - I recommend using them) but if you're OK with that then you're likely to enjoy it.

I think the story was written by Ken Levine (same guy who wrote the story for Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite). And Ive heard its great.
