So i am trying to download Dead Space 3 since day 1 of the humble bundle and this piece of shit is stuck on 60% because keeps going backwards! It was 82% and wen´t all the freaking way back again! I think i am loosing my mind here...

Also why Origin insists in chargin me with Euros when i don´t live in Europe boggles my mind.

PS: I never, ever had this issues with Steam.

Any one knows a solution?

EDIT:

Trying Origin BETA, apparently working fine, 92% without problems, let´s hope.

Now about those Euro dear EA...

just wait. it will go back to 82% if you wait a minute. and do not blame origin for making a bundle game of which they have had no profit.

Lol.. It was prefectly fine for me.. Ds3 is my first origin game installed.. Finish in 1 day.. And My internet speed isnt fast..

About it going back to 0%, its still way better than steam.. With origin, once u close it n resume download, it will show as 0%; leave it for a sec and it will go back to ur last percentage.. And this always happen whenever I close n open origin to resume dl..

As for steam, for a few times, I had to download the game from 0 again if it somehow goes back to 0%..

Hope u understand what my explanation..

When you restart Steam and you see your download =% it doesn´t mean it has to re download all again. What it actually does is giving you a new percentage based on what you had left.

So you are 50% of 10 GB, you restart and it is 0% again. This means is 0% of 5 gb, not 10.
It may completly reset in rare cases but in my experience it worked as explained abov.

Now here is a big diference.

Steam uses Pipeline (or something on those line) technollogy, were you don´t download raw data.
For example for Payday 2 Beta i only downloaded 4,5 gb, while the game size is 12 gb aprox.

Apparently Origin dowloands the full raw data, and when it fails verification it downloads big chuncks again.

I'll remember it every time I play Fallout 3. I might have to use the FoMM just to bypass it. Then again, there are a couple games I have other than Fo3 that use GFWL. I've had trouble running every single one of them due to GFWL. GFWL is the only DRM client that has about a 50% failure rate on my computer so far. Origin only has a 10% failure rate right now.

You might, never had this particular issue on Steam, but it has way more issues than Origin. If not for the Steam service itself I would've left it long ago.

And I don't know a solution, never experienced anything similar.

138 games+redownloads= Never an issue with Steam.

1 Game on Origin= can´t download. And let´s not even start with redeeming a key.

I don't know if you lying or just completely ignore it, but Steam has so many freaking issues I lost count of them long ago, and I'm not talking just about download issues, which they have enough of them as well.

And you encountered 1 issue with Origin and already condemn it.

Comment has been collapsed.

Steam not beign perfect? That is no news, but i never have any issue with downloads.
Just once with offline mode, but at the same time i was in the Beta client.

Origin? The few times i reedemed a code for Origin i had had to retry many times.
Then it wants me to pay en Euro which costs more than dollars where i live. Yeah sure, i will pay more in Origin just because.
I want to download 1 game from them and it fails constantly, i can´t play it.
I don´t like the GUI.

I think i am safe condeming it until some changes are made.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Steam is far from just "not-being-perfect" I can outright say that Steam has one of the worst clients I've seen if not the worst.

While the Origin client on the other hand is one of the most stable and good ones. And you had a problem redeeming a code? maybe it was in that whole huge traffic of key redemption? what did you expect with that heavy load? Just for your information, key redemption is much faster in Origin than Steam, and doesn't actually use up your key automatically. It makes you to pay in Euro? Oh tell me all about how noone pays in euro on Steam, and what good pricing system they have. And WTH? we talking about clients here, what pricing has to do anything with that? So you encountered a rare issue, that usually no problem to fix, and you say it's a disadvantage over Steam which has enormous problems? You don't like GUI? ok that's your opinion, I personally think that Steam's GUI sucks pretty much, and prefer Origin's GUI.

That's just their opinion, though. And they've stated why they feel this way before, though that was in a different thread.
Instead of calling their comment bullshit, why not just ask why they prefer Origin over Steam? It'd cause a lot less drama. :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, I prefer Steam over Origin, but Steam's client is much inferior to Origin's client, but that doesn't mean I prefer Origin entirely more than Steam's entirety.

EDIT; Also beside GUI preference, everything else isn't an really opinion as it touches the technical issues of the clients, so opinion doesn't have really anything to do with it.

Oh, I see. I must have misread a comment that you posted a while back. Or just remembered it wrong. ^^

I haven't used Origin enough to be able to properly compare it to Steam, but so for I like 'em both about equally. And I can't say anything about the support for either. Though I do get why some folks have issues with the Steam client. Service is down quite often, and it has derped like mad on me. I've only had issues with Origin during the Humble Bundle promo that they've got going on right now.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hmm, all comments about Origin I had till now were either; putting down the Origin and EA hate bandwagons and saying how Origin's client and costumer Support is much better than Steam's. Never really said that I prefer Steam over Origin, tho I once did say that I might prefer Origin better in future because Steam seems to be moving away from the dedicated gaming platform, which isn't up to my taste. (software, store, slow transform to social-network-like thing, and some of the rumors about Steam) But this one is indeed just an opinion.

The comment that I'm talking about is when you mentioned Steam's move towards being more of a social media/gaming platform. My brain's a bit foggy at the moment, so I most likely just remembered it wrong. "Might prefer Origin later" =/= "I like Origin more." lol

"t makes you to pay in Euro? Oh tell me all about how noone pays in euro on Steam, and what good pricing system they have."

You are aware that the OP is from Argentina, South America right? Why would he have to pay in euros when he's not even on the same continent as any European country?

It's also funny how you think it's ok that the code redeeming went down because of a single Humble Bundle, yet Steam doesn't have any issue with redeeming codes when a new bundle breaks out. (Sometimes even more than one on the same day) Key redeeming might be faster on Origin, when it works, but half the time I've had issues with keys not being recognized properly.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, I wasn't aware of that, why would I? And I mentioned it that that there are countries who pay with euro on Steam as well, so it's not something exclusive to Origin, and because a few more countries pay that way is not a reason to condemn it. And it didn't have anything to do with the argument in the first place. (as we argues about client itself, not the service.) Origin servers simply aren't structured to endure such a load, so once in a lifetime issue should be a reason do condemn it?

"You need to reneame 2 dll.

Program Files (x86)\Origin

IGO32.dll > IGO3211.dll
IGO64.dll > IGO6411.dll

Then go to ProgramData\Origin\Logs and delete Client_log.txt.

I was having the same problem downloading bf3 (tried like 4 times) then I contacted EA support and they told me to do this. I was like "wtf dude". But it worked. "

If you've IDM there's a way to download Origin games with it.
In IDM: Options->Add browser, then browse to origin folder and select origin.exe.
From now on each time you attempt to download a game through Origin IDM will handle your download.
P.S: If you want to update or verify a game remember to uncheck origin from IDM's list.

They've been suggesting that for roughly two years though, so it can't be the finer solution, even if it might actually work by sods law. :P

Am I right in thinking that updating Origin wipes certain half-downloaded files? Or at least rebuild certain base Origin files? I wonder if uninstalling Origin then attempting to re-install the client might solve it. Some of us get weird/hidden errors while installing the client, so that might be it.

Hmm. Mysterious~

i had this same problem with bf3
no matter what i did i could not get it to download
it would get to 83% download and then go back down to 20 % over and over

i am begin serious i did EVERYTHING
i even formatted my computer had a fresh copy of windows installed with only origin installed tried to download exact same issue

i spent a week repeatedly contacting the support and they kept on making up excuses and basically said they could not help me

i went on the pirate bay and downloaded the missing files from there and put them in the game folder and went update and it worked

also i know why it happens

apparently origin has problems with some internet service providers (ISP's)
where they just reset the downloads over and over for them
yes this is true i am with an australian company dodo and lookin up on their forums i found that most people with dodo had this problem
