Day 3
Woke up bright and early in Shanghai, flight out to Nanning was at 3:30PM ish, so we had a couple of hours to explore a bit. View from my hotel room, so smoggy in the morning!

Breakfast buffet in the hotel was very good. First round with rice porridge, various fried items, last round with sheng jian bao and dragon fruit.

Afterwards, we went walking around the Bund outside, for an excellent view. Walked over to the Yu Garden area for a bit as well, but only had like 30 minutes to explore before having to go back to the hotel to check out. I totally regretted eating so much for breakfast, because some of the street food looked amazing!

After we checked out, one of my coworkers really wanted to visit the restaurant on the 30th floor. I'm not really sure why it has such high ratings, but I thought it was pretty bad. First of all, why would you eat European food when you're in Shanghai!?

But I digress. First up was bread and butter, followed by tea and biscuits. We opted to each get the two course meal, so for the appetizer, I had the caprese salad, and main course was capsaicin ravioli. The best part were those walnuts on the top.

One hour drive to the airport later and we learned that out flight had been delayed by 2 hours. Well, google flights showed the delay, but the internal monitors in the airport showed on time. Luckily we had a few Chinese speakers in our party, so we asked the gate attendant if there was a real delay. They replied that there was and that they don't typically update the monitors. The only way to know is to stand by the gate and wait for updates that were only given in Chinese.... And later on they gave a gate change update... in Chinese only.... Yeah, I have no idea what to say to that.

Flight was rather uneventful. Apparently all domestic flights in China completely ban the use of cellphones, which was quite an annoyance since I was planning on doing some light reading on the flight. I also couldn't pictures of the food they served either. Oh well. Plane landed quite late, so we headed straight to hotel and went to bed.

Mmm I dislike fried stuff (potatoes are an exception) and dumplings. How does the dragon fruit taste?
The Bund is impressive! Good picture. I hope there were not many mosquitoes on the garden/lake. Also impressive buildings in that garden, in a totally different way.
Sad salad, Sad ravioli. Looks like an expensive place, due to the sad amount of food in the plates. The bread & butter looks good tho.
"They don't typically update the monitors" O.o

I think the meal was around $20 USD, not that much for US standards, but I guess pretty expensive for China.

Shanghai is one of the world's most air polluted cities.

There are even specialized weather sites were they show the degree of pollution in Shanghai.

I saw a TV documentary recently about the air pollution in China and on pictures and video footage from NASA, they showed that the air pollution over China is visible from in space.

I work for a server manufacturer, so I have to go out sometimes to support test events and system builds. Usually like 2-3 times a year.

Your trips seem to be way more often than 2-3 times a year :D

Hope you are enjoying it, as you should!

The airport where you would think there would be plenty of international travelers only gives announcements in Chinese, but the street vendors have English on their signs? Nice :3
