Not a fan of coconut in savoury dishes, personally, so I can empathise with your reaction.

I don't know why, but sweet stuff in meals are awfully strong to me. Never a taste warning of saccharin overload. Drinking candy would make me gag.

Coconut milk makes savoury dishes extra bland so some cooks tend to over compensate. Sugar is the wrong way to go though. Spices, fish sauce or a nice chili are better options.

Some kind of coconut noodle soup also from Pok Pok. The broth was very sweet, almost like drinking candy. Not my favorite.
