They could, instead, make SteamGuard compatible with any of the authenticator apps out there right now. That would be actually useful.

It'd be better if you could adjust the time.7 days would definitely be enough.

Valve locked me out of Market in browser on 29th August. They are making me wait for over a month to regain access.

Why didn't you contact support since 10th? They might need to "unlock you" manually

You realize the date is in a US standard and 9/10 means September 10th?

Oh really? You know that it's 19th September today? It even shows that on the image I posted.

You should try looking at the calendar once in a while.

I've never understand that feature. I logged in from several pcs (at work, at my gf, my smartphone) ans I've never been locked out of the market. So, what is it?

It looks like they added IP check upon logging. Few hours ago I cleaned browser cache by miss (I was experimenting smth), I logged in and I m still able to trade and do market stuff (..for now xD..).
This time new access email is slightly different than before, it have following lines:
"We've received a request to access your Steam account from a new computer
located at IP address: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
Our records show this IP address is in BELGRADE VOJVODINA RS
If that location does not reasonably match your location or the location of your
Internet Service Provider, then follow this link for more information: Verify Login Location"

I see me and an endless loop of ban again, my IP shows 2 different regions from day to day, Nürnberg and Nordhausen (230km) so I'm screwed I guess...

It should still be seen as the same device though. Can be a problem if you reinstall though as it might see a new device, at a new location.

"There's so many account hacker/scammers, Valve needs to DO something!!!"

"UGH VALVE, why you make me jump through hoops???"

Pretty much.

There was a topic about someone being "hacked" on the Steam Reddit a few days ago. This would have protected that person.

(Hacked is in quotations because someone probably phished for their information)

I don't seem to understand what this means... so I have two laptops I use, and I sometimes log into the browser... does this mean I can only log into one place forever or else I'm locked out for 15 days? The heck?

We will see, but last time it was this:

  • login from new device (Steamguard message appears) or clear cookies and cache of your browser
  • be banned for 15 days on all devices

No, you're locked out from market and trading for 15 days on THAT specific device, not all devices.

It's still not the way it's supposed to work. The announcement was that the new device only would be locked out. I think they just screwed up a bit on the implementation.

IP check? What the heck? Won't it screw up people with dynamic IP, which is probably most of us? O.o

Oh man, I bet no one thought of this since so few people use a wireless router for multiple devices.

I am no expert on networking, but don't all devices behind a router show up with same IP to the world and only the router than routes the traffic to assigned internal IPs? Also, correct me if I am wrong, this is a thing that actually interests me, but not that much that I look for the info :p

"Logging in from a new computer or browser will NOT completely disable trading and market access on the account. This restriction applies only to the new computer or browser. If you log in from a new computer, you will still be able to trade from any computer that you authorized at least 15 days ago."

Doesn't sound bad to me.

As long as you don't do your trading in an internet cafe, or don't need to reisntall Steam on your computer.

They're trying to find a middle ground where it's not too damaging but unfortunately there are always people who're gonna get screwed up by this.
