If u purchase the game non steam no it wornt work it insantly puts you to Uplay. If u purchase it on steam u still have to work on Uplay but it helps u with the DLC'S wich u need to re-add them there :)

None of the assassin's creed games I own work without uPlay. I think Steam can be used as a launcher for them but not as DRM (or something like. I know what I'm trying to say.)

What is stupid is that if you buy the game on Steam you will have UPlay but the game its self won't show up on your UPlay :|
At least EA games bought on Steam can be redeemed on Origin as well...

And no, it won't work on Steam. I got both BH and R on Steam and when I click "Play" it opens the Uplay launcher, instead of the game itself, like with all the Steamworks games.
