[Puzzle] 「Quandary of Eccentric Variety」

I give to you a wonderful and sadistic puzzle of unreasonable difficulty, one which is sure to delight the heart and muddle the mind. You need not have contributed to enter. The giveaway will be open for roughly one week.

If the whim strikes me, hints may be given at some unspecified point in time.

As is tradition, please do not give out hints, answers, or the giveaway URL to others. These are items which must be jealously guarded, lest some terrible disaster befall the world.

Without further fanfare, the puzzle awaits.

So I'm missing 5 and 8. You do know that species codes are not standardized, right? They differ between states and countries, so which one are we supposed to use?

Edit: Never mind, got 8 but still missing 5.

The quiz is the easy part. There is another puzzle following the quiz. There is an answer at the end though. I wasted more time than I cared to solving it all. Cleverly done though I must admit.

It might be wise to avoid overthinking part two of the puzzle. Certain pieces of the clue are key and will direct you to where you need to go. The first answer you arrive at is probably correct, in more ways than one.

I was afraid something like that might happen, which is why I had a backup plan in mind when creating this puzzle, one which I was hoping never to act upon due to my indolent nature.
