Now that we've had Google+ shoved down our throats in order to comment on Youtube, pretty much everything I do whether it's comment or like or whatever is shared on my Google+ page. I'm just to keep Google+ as least intrusive as it can get. So does anybody know a way to either make it so it doesn't share every damned thing I do, or just a way to make my Google+ account completely private?

? That makes no sense. He's talking about YT, not Google. Also, he's not talking about Google as a search engine, either.

Google+ & Youtube belong to Google.

They don't care about your privacy, period.

You can have the same services with other companies that care about your privacy.

Right now google is asking for access to your public data stored by the gov.

Yes, I know G+ anf YT belong to Google. I also know all about the troubles concerning privacy in using this company (which is why I use addons to remove tracking from Google results, block Google Analytics scripts from running, and to remove ping tracking). So? The OP was asking for a way to keep G+ out of his YT affairs / keep the two split. Your reply had nothing to do with the OP, which had YT usage as its' main topic. You said "don't use Google", suggesting you were referring to its' search engine. Also, there's no free and open source alternatives to YT. The videos on there, are the videos on there. As for alternatives to the various services rendered by G+ such as social services - again, the OP wasn't asking anything about G+, in fact his wording suggests he hates it, doesn't use it, and wants to keep its' impact on his overall usage as low as possible.

Out of curiosity, though - what were you suggesting there were free and open source alternatives to, precisely? And what are examples of these free and open source alternatives?

Because talking about how to enhance your privacy with google is like talking about how to walk naked on the street without people watching you. If it's privacy you look for, then google is to be fogotten.

A free and open source alternative to google+ would be diaspora or buddycloud, a free and open source alternative to youtube would be mediagoblin.

But for the sake of the "i MUST use google" ( the company, as far as the search engine is concerned i recommend ixquick ) here is a quick link :

If you use YT, you use Google. YT and Google accounts were merged long ago.

I have a separate account for Google things and Youtube. I'm not sure how I set that up, but it keeps them unlinked.

If you're using Chrome, lol.
If you're using Firefox, get Ghostify.
Poke around YT/G+ settings and see what you can turn off.
Set all your posts in G+ to default to private/whatever.

I have a question, where is the "Show the comment" button and how the hell do I reply to comments? And where are those messages I get in my inbox when people reply to me???

I've just been typing in youtube.com/inbox in the address bar. I have no idea what you click to actually get there.

And i have the perfect solution for those privacy concerns: Don't comment on youtube ever again..Use youtube only as a hosting service for the videos you want public. Take youtube as a source of disinformation and misinformation rather than factual information. That's it.

Go to Youtube Settings (you click on your avatar at the top right hand corner of any YT page and it will open a drop down menu), then go to "Connected Accounts". Under "Share your activity to connected accounts" uncheck whatever you want (probably all 3 if you're looking for maximum privacy).

Then go to "Privacy" and check off to keep your liked videos/playlists and your subscriptions private if you don't want those showing on your youtube channel.

As for comments you need to uncheck that box that says "Also share on Google+" EVERY SINGLE TIME if you don't want your comment on your G+ page. I'm not 100% sure whether an option to permanently shut this off exists or not but I haven't found such an option yet.

That's all I know regarding privacy.

Google+ is really starting to annoy me. Every other day it asks me what username I want. I tell it I want to keep my youtube one and then prevents me from signing in on that account at all forcing me to use my real name. I lose all my subscriptions when that happens.
