Preparation
Download the software here. Extract the files, enter the folder and run D3D9Gen. It lists 5 NViDIA cards, you need the one which is the closest match to your own video card. Use this to match your graphics card with one of the listed cards in the application. Once you know the closest match there, click Generate DLL. The file this creates, d3d9.dll, must be moved to the game folder a bit later, but don't do it right away.

  • First, run the game, and set up the pre game options as you want them. Once the other steps have been completed, this will not work, so all settings must be done before you continue. Quit the game once this is done and you reach the menu.
  • Now, copy d3d9.dll to the game folder (in Windows 7 64 bit, this is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\The Amazing Spider-Man).
  • The final step is to rename to two executable files, so the game is started instead of the settings menu. ASMLauncher.exe can be titled whatever you wish, but once changed, you then must rename Game.exe to ASMLauncher.exe, so Steam will run that when you try to play the game.

Enjoy.

The Amazing Spider-Man hates working on AMD / ATI videocards. Found a fix on GameFAQs, but it needs me to know of a similar level of card from nVidia, so can anyone think of the best match for mine? AMD Radeon HD6570 (2 GB), these seem to be the right specs for my card.

I'd say a GTX 640. Just a quick guess tho.

Edit: Little more research. Very similar test results compared to the 9800GT. I'd go with that most likely.
If you want to see yourself

Edit2: Screw everything else
A 9600GT should do the trick. Just realized the second result was of a Radeon HD 7540D + 6570 Dual.

Just spent about an hour playing, not a problem. Perfect level, thanks for that.

yeah, from modern cards 640 is very similar. Back in 2011 it was a 440 card.

What will happen if you choose a super fast nvidia card instead? then turn down the options?

For a sec I was thinking O.o as I didn't realise The Amazing Spiderman was a game.

There are quite a few games with Spider-Man, not surprising you didn't know about some. Just wish more were in Steam, as I know there were some other PC ports. At least I have the older games for PS2 and some fun Metroidvania style games on the DS.

Yeah I realise there'd be some games with spiderman, but I read it as spiderman doesn't like working on graphics cards, like he's got some job fixing computers in a basement when he'd rather be out saving people and fighting crime while shooting webs.

A GTX 630 is the closest u can get. It should cost somewhere around 70 bucks.

But imho just try to put aside some money and buy a better GPU like a R7 265 if u can't afford much, the GPU is stupid slow for the specs.

Cheers!

That isn't what I wanted. I'm not spending money. There is a software fix for the game, using a driver that tricks the game into believing you are using a nVidia card, which makes it work very well.

If I was spending money (which I don't actually have, unfortunately), why not go for a new card?
