Morrowind (+elder scrolls series)
Super meatboy (probably most finetuned gameplay and most satisfying learning curve)
Soulcalibur (+series)

If I'm going to choose one, probably The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for N64 (I never played the remaster). I like last of us as well but for me, it's ocarina of time is the best. graphics maybe not as good as modern games, I like it's gameplay, story and overall experience.

I think that you're refering to the older Zelda games from before Ocarina of Time, the handheld Zelda games or possibly Skyward Sword to be honest, since "bare bones story" is not a description that fits for OoT. Whether you like the game or not is a different story, each to their own as you so well said, but the story is far from "bare bones" ^^

Civilization / Crusader kings 2 honorary mention to railroad tycoon

Borderlands 2 / resident Evil 4
Wizardry 7 / planescape torment / Dragon age origins
Tetris
Metroid Prime
Soul Calibur
Heroes of might & magic 3 / Dune 2

The problem with a question like this is that different genres are really difficult to compare. And when you prefer certain types of games, you'd naturally gravitate toward those. While Civ is in my top 3, that doesn't mean it's necessarily a lock in the top 3 across the board. I just happen to like those types of games even back to Strategic Conquest, which is one of the first 4x games. God, did I enjoy that game

1 game eh? :D i'd pick:
real-life.exe and all the games inside it
