Wrap it in black leather or latex ? That's what people usually do with gimps.

Image / Mode / Grayscale will convert an image to Black + White. It might well look a little light, going to Colors / Brightness-Contrast and makinga few adjustments often helps (turning up contrast and turning down brightness often works well in my experience).

Go to the color menu and take away all of it. :)
ALT: Google for a black wooden texture (that is free for public use).
