The only one I really use is :happymeat: from Super Meat Boy instead of typing ":)".

I acquired a :Kitty: one from Poof recently in a trade and sold it. I guess lots of people would like it as the internet is full of people who are nuts about cats. I don't mind cats, but they're not a big deal to me. I prefer dogs.
