Last time I checked they will work for digital goods, but only those sold on Amazon. Unless something has changed then you won't be able to use Amazon credit to buy from third-party sites, like Humble Bundle for example (who offer Amazon Payments as a payment method).

Amazon is just selling remainder stock of keys that they have prior to the game being pulled. This is not the publisher forcing you to pay full retail but rather the vendor trying to liquidate. The publisher doesn't want your money, Amazon does.

This one was pulled with a number of other games back in 2013 because of Microsoft closing down GWFL. You still have to work around it and why people complain about Fable 3 not working on Windows 10.

GFWL is still working, people rumoured it died but you can still login and play multiplayer games fine with it.

I can personally confirm that all my GFWL games stopped working once primary support for the service was dropped. You can notice a rather firm pattern to that effect on Steam reviews as well, with Steam users regularly clarifying that many old GFWL games no longer work [without workarounds] or only started working again once they were relaunched with the Steam multiplayer interface substituted for GFWL. Updates to the GFWL service and to individual games have corrected the issues for seemingly nearly all the GFWL games out there, but I believe a few still don't work, even with the newest version of the service.

So if you're saying it was just a rumor for Fable 3, based on the actuality of it being an issue for other games, I wouldn't know about that. But it certainly was a notable problem for a while for quite a few games. The main issue seemed to be that many games had internalized installers, and didn't look for updates to the service. Meanwhile, updates to Windows removed support for older versions of GFWL, creating an incompatibility (especially when using Windows 10). As t0b noted below, manually updating GFWL typically fixes issues, but it doesn't always work- sometimes user patches or workarounds, or hoping a relaunch of the game [eg, with Steam support] are necessary considerations. And in some cases, there's just no way to get a GFWL game to work [for multiplayer], especially if they don't allow for VLAN workarounds.

I didnt meant for fable, but all GFWL games. Must be a windows 10 issue for some users, which the article you linked explains how to update on the Update Your GFWL Client Software section, and you yourself said it fixes for most users.
I use Windows7 and I played section 8 prejudice with friends who have windows 10 just fine recently (using invites, I think the matchmaking was busted but I cant really remember), and before red faction guerrilla got converted I managed to play MP too. I can login and use my online profile on bulletstorm, so GFWL is still functioning, contrary to rumors that it closed down.
