i only spend around $100ish on steam so far in my a year? worth of time on steam, and honestly i have bought a handful of those "meta games", as you called it, that i sorta leave them out in the corner gathering dust 'till whenever i feel like touching it again. i guess sometimes it's those impulsive purchasing habit of mine? hahha. i.e. i've bought FF XIIII 'cos i heard it was super popular, and everyone kept talking about it to this day, but i guess it's one of those games that's gonna take a while to finish, so here i am just dragging it on.

About 90% of my games are come from bundle sites. Mos of the time I look add trailer and 1 or 2 games from that bundle interested me . I don't want to go to hassle of finding those games and trade for them so I juts buy the whole bundle . As the result I have a crap ton of games that I don't even know I owned them and i don't play them most of the time.

thoughts:
steam:
^ bottom line 1: -> sheer endless game entertainment at a VERY low cost -> can't have a 1000+ cakes and eat them too (unless ...)
time:
^ finite ...
Why play the steam meta game AKA buying games to never play them?
time > steam ... that's why, also why i don't give a darn about competition and
achievements - except for a few games i could count on 1 or 2 hands

I've become addicted to shopping on sales. I tell myself that I only buy stuff that I'm sure that I'll play and the majority of the games I intend to play them but following this way of thinking led my backlog to more than 145 games xD
On the other side the only game that I've bought with real money was CS:GO, other then that they were bought with trading revenue so...
I guess that I'm just worse than a women and its shoes

I don't buy that much, but I play a lot less than I buy, so I'd say it's the buying experience:
Finding new games that match my taste (or I want to inflict on my kids) to some extent.
Researching the games some more (reading reviews, etc.)
Deciding if they're worth the (small) investment in money
Feeling like I got a good deal

I don't have thousands (yet heh) but most of the reason I have so many is because of the humble bundles. I redeemed literally everything before I realized there were good places like this. I mean now that they're in there I intend to at least TRY each game, but... that will still take a little bit of time haha.

I know that most of us have a few games that we'll never get around to, whether it's because we got them on multi-game keys or we just don't have time or there's always a "better" game that you want to play more, but there are also people out there with thousands of games in their accounts, games they know they'll never play, and I was wondering why that is.
It seems to me to be almost a game in and of itself, that the collection of games is attractive to anyone with a completionist-type personality.
So why do you think people do it? Or if you have one of those accounts, I'd love to know why you buy so many games. Is it to do with trading? Idling for cards? Or do you just like buying things?
