I'm sorry, it's just on Greenlight, with shit getting greenlit you need to do better than this. This one looks just like another amazing title already chosen by community.

Quote from greenlight I get this call every day:
WASN'T THIS GAME ON GREENLIGHT BEFORE?
It sure was! I put it back because I'm flat broke and my family needs to make rent! Selling I Get This Call Every Day on Steam would certainly help!

I voted for it on greenlight. This game is pure amazing, anyone wants COD: Ghosts for this game? If so add me.

http://www.desura.com/games/i-get-this-call-every-day/reviews
It actually gets some favorable reviews from Desura.
And I actually just bought this game from Desura, which I seldom do. It is quite fun with voice acting.
http://imgur.com/NsOElThProof of my purchase

I don't trust Desura reviews. When I bought and played Paranormal it was an utter trainwreck, and people were happily doling out nines and tens, even writing about the game-breaking bugs they experienced or saying lines like "this really needs to be fixed" or "this is boring" but still giving it a 10. Of course, my comments were hidden by down-voters because they were critical of some aspects of the game, despite that I wanted the game to grow and succeed, given it had potential.
At 'full release' it was still a wreck, and the creator had already moved on to a kickstarter to make an 'expansion' of the game that was still in a sorry state. I get that the indie scene is tough and actualising new ideas is pretty rough without a lot of time, resources, experience and manpower, but Desura seems to have an awful "me too" attitude going on, with 'legit' comments being downvoted simply out of disagreement of personal opinion. My brain. It facepalmed.

I just plain voted no, looks like crap. Greenlight is fucking everything up, no filters at all
Comment has been collapsed.
well if it is crap people wont vote for it and besides even if it does get greenlit what is forcing you to buy it or even look at games store page so i dont get it why is Greenlight fucking everything up

Developers will look at greenlight games for inspiration? If they see that shit games are greenlit, they won't try at all to make a good game and instead put in little to no effort to get some quick cash.

I've played this game, which lasted for about 5 minutes only.
My honest review is that it is definitely not a complete game. But it has potential. If the dev can make more phone calls and more choices of dialog, it can grow to something decent.

Sure, but as it is now, it's a bad example. A VERY bad example.

Easy answer, when Greenlight initiative started, it was very very few games which actually upvoted and greenlit. Look at the thing now, 100 or even more fucking games greenlit at once each 2 weeks? (don't know the time period), doesn't make any sense at all.
It seems that when they started they had some kind of filters of what it was going to be released on Steam and what not, now it's a damn mess.

No, it is never just about a way to sell games. As far as I know, there are many indie developers who have skills and love in video games but sometimes it is hard for them to get fund by huge publishers like 2K, Ubi ect. Then Valve provides a good platform that allows these people to do what they love to do and provide high quality indie games to players. Greenlight is for people like this. But, there are bad devs that want quick money and what they do can and will ruin greenlight. That is unfair for other devs. It is not that simple as you said. That is why we do care about this issue.

Actually I don't give a damn about them, they can do whatever they want, but I wish Steam didn't get full of crap

that guy that made that call everyday game modelled it after his real life job and when they saw the game ...they fired him lol. seriously not a joke
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes.
Quoting from his website:
"Well, yeah. His seventh game, I Get This Call Every Day, got him into some trouble. See, his day job used to be answering the phones for Canada Revenue Agency. All that changed the day the Toronto Star published an article about the game that outed David as a CRA employee and called I Get This Call Every Day an "angry online rant against taxpayers." The same day the article was published, David was fired from his job at the Canada Revenue Agency. He's since been covered by Kotaku, Polygon, Game Informer, Eurogamer, and this German magazine called JS. He's done okay for himself."

yep and all the do gooders on the internet that want so desperately to make themselves feel better by helping someone im sure went out and spent a dollar on his game rather than the current bundle. they sleep so well at night knowing their solitary dollar is put to such good use.

I was mildly annoyed that that didn't get picked up on by the Internet. The Star called the guy up and said, not in as many words, "We're going to run this story with or without your interaction, would you like to have some say in it?"
Yet another example of the media being more interested in the 'story' over basic human decency.

Not QUITE the case...
The reporter from the Star called me up. I told her about the game, about how it represented my frustration with my job from both the customer end and the rules/laws end. She guessed I worked for CRA, and I never lied to her and said "no" (nor did I confirm her guess). She said she would run with the article, which I said was fine. She never mentioned spinning the game to be an "online rant against taxpayers" or contacting CRA for their comment. When her article got updated to say that the Minister of Revenue would be launching an investigation into the matter, that was when I found out I was being investigated. I was fired by the end of the day.
Seems like only yesterday.

Oh! Well, I must say I wasn't expecting to get a direct response from the man himself. Still, you have my sympathies, you rather got the short end of the stick there.

I could get this from Groupees and I still say No.

Isn't the majority of stuff on Greenlight mediocre or just plain bad? Of course there are a few exceptions.

Nah, sure some are bad and mediocore but I am sure its also a goldmine of games.

Hes trolling.. hes gotta be trolling, right? Please tell me hes trolling!
Any other games you want to upvote just to see if steam has the balls to approve it?
UPDATE - 3 months later, this topic made the game dev angry?
I honestly forgot about this thread, made it 3 months ago as a jest thread.
It wasn't praticularly directed at the game itself, just that phenomenon on greenlight.
It appears like the game dev bumped the thread
First of all I have to admit I'm impressed you took the time and effort and even found out about this, second of all allow me to explain with some constructive critisism:
It seems like you're upset about the term 'trolling'- I did not imply you posted your game on greenlight to get anyone angry, but it seemed to me as a joke project that wasn't being serious about getting greenlit (You can replace 'trolling' with 'joking'). The term 'trolling' was perhaps misused.
In todays world, even indie games have standards, especially those that are not free to play. I'm all for 'minimalistic' and 'retro' approach in some cases but asking to be taken seriously when the game looks like it was made in flash in 10 minutes is a bit absurd
First impressions are everything. Even if your game is hillarious and well written. The average guy browsing greenlight will not waste more than 30 seconds to look at screenshots and maybe read a review or two. Do not expect people to understand the deep meaning and amazing humor behind your project. On first glance its a project that doesn't take itself seriously
My first thought was 'Wait, this guy had 100 bucks to post it on greenlight yet he couldn't pay an artist 30 bucks to draw better looking graphics?
According to my understanding, the main 'buzz' behind your game is 'oh, its a guy that got fed up with his dead end job, made a game about it and got fired because of it'. Which is fine, but that can't be the main draw for your game? Correct me if I'm wrong, thats what I read, atleast.
That being said, now the positive bit - After watching some of your youtube videos and some people doing lets play of your game I have to admit it does seem funny. I like good humor and you seem to have plenty. Its just a shame you did not wrap it in a slightly more respectable package. I do have a warm place in my heart for indie developers.
You do seem to have an ability to push yourself and your project forward and your game does have good humor. After all theres a reason why theres so many lets plays of it on youtube right? So you seem to have the drive, congrats for that.
If your project did so well with 'painbrush' graphics, imagine the potential it actually has.
They say theres no such thing as bad publicity and seems like threads such as this help draw attention to your project. So hey, atleast thats something right?
