Hello, The winner of my first giveaway did not activate the key on his account (Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter). I emailed him the key right after the giveaway ended(a week ago) and he did mark it as received, but now when I checked my steamgifts profile it was changed to "not received" and the key was still not activated on his account. That key came from a bundle and I have not touched it. Now it makes me look bad!!!!

I did contact support about it

According to winners profile, he hasn't activated the game. I hope you do have the e-mails saved if SG support asks you can forward them as proof. If not, well you can't prove you actually gave the code.

And I'm not saying problem is in your end, just a heads up of what happens next.

I have all the proof, I have the email I sent him and proof of where I got the code

Also there is a slight chance he (the winner) might have given that code to a friend and it is not usable any more. I'm not saying this to discourage you - I just want you to know this. When you send the code through email you can't be sure he/she has used it or not. Better option is just email or add the winner and ask why the game is not redeemed and marked as not recieved.

this is why i ALWAYS say, " as soon as you send someone the game key you sit there and ask him to activate it so you can see it in their games list!

ALWAYS make sure they activate it no matter what! and if its not activated after the 7 days, report them and get them banned on SG!

this is one of the reasons i hate people who send key's via email without communicating with the winner you have no idea what he or she does with the key.... ppl need to take better care when it comes to keys

If someone wants to abuse the system, he will. No matter how often you tell them not to. Just get them banned, no other options. You can't mindcontrol them.

You think they are banned for good? Think twice...
Example: Someone did not activate Rocksmith (he traded it...), we reported him and he got a suspend for a few days. Now he's free to do it again.

Just something to note here: he may actually have activated it.

That specific game may not show in the game list on your profile even if you do have it in your account. E.g. I did activate my key from the HIB weekly bundle for that very game and it does show in my library, yet it doesn't show in my games list.

Also maybe just ask him why he marked it as not received now.

Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter is one the games that do not always should up in someone's profile until they've started up the game for about 5 minutes.
Add that person to your friends list, then check the Steam store page for that game and see if they show up on the friends that already own this game section.

This is why I'm not interested to do any giveaway. With such flawed mechanism (not saying SG is responsible) I just can't accept blatant lie from the receiving end.

This has discouraged me from doing anymore giveaways, I had 5 more games to giveaway but Im going to give them to my friends now

From the looks of it, that was your first giveaway and already have this problem lol.

Leeching is better here. :)

I've given games to my friends. Much more enjoyable to do it that way.

Maybe join / create a group, or require some CV for your next giveaway (if possible).

Yeah, you can set your rules in private giveaways.

I'm going to do that for next giveaways, if I ever do another one because this just makes me look bad now

Welcome to steamgifts.

And be careful with keys. You don't want to send them to a random noob just like that.

When you have to send a key..
Try to do this:
Change a letter and/or number of the key...
And ask to the winner if it worked..
If he/she say yes, ask re-roll...
If he/she say no, you'll know that he did try to activate.. then send the real key.. =)

This is a option to avoid those problems...

Just set a decent CV and you will only get users who know how the site works and never get those confused people again.

Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter does not show up on users' profiles unless it registers playtime/stats. With that said, I will close this thread because this is not how this can get resolved and the thread might lead to the winner receiving unnecessary comments about it.
