The problem is not that but that this company would be almost monopolising the agricultural chemical business. This is why so many authorities dragged their feet, it is big enough to maybe fall even under the US anti-trust law.

My response to these types of statements are that Monsanto has saved the lived of hundreds of millions to billions of people. The use of genetically modified crops has done more to increase crop yields than nearly any other thing. If we went away from them and went to "organic" farming, there would be billions of people who starved to death. Most people who hate a "GMO" don't even know what it stands for.

GMO is only the popular reason to hate Monsanto. Regardless of how you feel about GMO it's Monsanto's business practices that deserve the real disdain.

It is not their usual problem but their pricing and business practise. They put a goddamn trademark claim on the crops farmers grow; if you grow wheat, you cannot just use the seeds for the next year, you are legally bound to re-buy the seeds you grew from them. This is why people hate that company.

this - tottaly this - farmers in poorer countries, and even some organic farmers in the US, not being able to use their own seed from their own crops - due to trademark claims now being on their crops !

IMO There's nothing wrong with GMO's but there are multiple things wrong with monstanto. Agent Orange and the fact that they have a monopoly on GMO's which are way better then normal seeds and drive farmers in 3rd world countries who can't afford those seeds out of business.

yeah except there is this whole 'organic' foods movement in most first world countries that makes people pay almost double the price for the same type of vegetable/fruit because its 'organic'. If anything, those 3rd world farmers are making double the profit they once did.
