Good marketing ploy for DayZ Standalone imo. Not that it really needs another push right now, but I think that's clever of them. Give people a taste of the mod and hope they buy the SA.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Or make who naive people buy the bundle thinking they are gettin' the standalone that everyone is talking about.

1 decade ago

probably this

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hmm, maybe. Not sure it would be good business sense though.

If people were naive enough to think that then I'd imagine a good few of them would get pissed off and vow not buy the standalone or other BI titles in the future. They might feel ripped off.

It would be a risky move as it would take a good few bundles sold to offset the loss of one lost sale of the standalone game.

I move the charity slider to 0 when I buy bundles. I'm not a fan of "general causes" that randomly allocate your money. Talk about little Timmy needing surgery though and done.

1$ tier doesnt look bad and since I have no interest in DayZ I'm going to stick with it.

1 decade ago

Yep, DayZ-mod is free, but you need the 6$ tier to get Operation Arrowhead

Arma 2 without Arrowhead is poop though and there were hardly any servers for it last I checked.

I bought Arma X during the winter sale. Should have waited...

1 decade ago

me too, but with X you got also cold war assault and some DLCs to arma 2, so not bad still

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

me too, but i bought arma x in Summer sales.

1 decade ago

Nope. I'd get Arma X separately over this bundle myself. Because of that, the real gem is Carrier Command in my opinion. :>

Wait, what are they selling in the BTA? DayZ Mod (which is free) or DayZ standalone?

1 decade ago
Permalink

The mod... That's why it's in parenthesis... But there is a gift/key for it, go figure that one out ;D

1 decade ago
Permalink

it's to make sure noobs realise that you need Arrowhead to play it.

1 decade ago

It's probably because the ARMA DayZ mod has its own Steam page.

1 decade ago

The mod - kind of. You need Arma II + Operation Arrowhead to run it so the the fact that Arrowhead is in the BTA means you need to have that to run the mod. You'd be right in saying that the mod is free though.

If i only get ArmA II can i play dayz mod or it's just playable with both the ArmA II?

1 decade ago

It needs Operation Arrowhead.

1 decade ago

There's a reason it says BTA tier for DayZ mod.

this. just marketing.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well the site actually says

*Note: This mod is available for free elsewhere, but has been included in this bundle collection too

and you do need the arma II OA from that tier to play the mod anyways.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It ties to your account this way, for what that's worth. Normally it won't add to your account as owned.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Actually, it does add it your account in all the ways. I got it from the store page. It shows on my game list to install, on my profile's owned games and when going to the store page it says "You already own Arma II: DayZ Mod"

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Even if you uninstalled it?

I didn't have the Arma games before, so I was just basing it on other free Steam games/mods that don't add to accounts.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I believe F2P games now remain in your games list if you've installed/played them.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Maybe the changed it again. I know they updated it so that F2P games would stay in your account if you owned any dlc for them, but not otherwise.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh wait, you might be right. I thought Spiral Knights appeared in my account because I tried it ages aqo. Apparently, I own a DLC for it though; it looks like it's a hat for owning another game. But I recall someone saying Spiral Knights wouldn't show up even with that DLC unless I actually played it.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

no, i also have spiral knights in my library, never played it tho

1 decade ago
Permalink

You can get Spiral Knights hats for any of the Total War games, and Sonic CD

Kinda freaked out after seeing Dayz. Thought it was the standalone version.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Putting the best selling game on steam on a $6 bundle is a great idea.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Exactly the reason why I freaked out. Thought they were doing that 'only 1000 copies left' thing since the dayz mod is actually free.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Nothing I need, nice.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So is it worth it to beat the 6 dollars here? Meaning, I want Operation Arrowhead, but will I be able to find it cheaper than 5 dollars elsewhere during a sale? Assuming I have no interest in the other BTA game, of course.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The games have hit 80% off before, so it could be possible depending on the base price.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It might be hard to find OA cheaper than 5-6$, Bohemia doesn't do massive discounts.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Wasn't Arma 2 and all expansions/dlc in a 80%off sale on the Winter Sale though?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, and other times as well

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It did be cheaper to wait for the OA and get it from steam sale.

1 decade ago

Very good bundle, but I bought ARMA II:COMBINED OPERATIONS few days ago and I dont have any interest in the other games.

1 decade ago

Too broke to pay the $6 for Arrowhead (already have the other game there), but at least I can get the $1 tier.

Though I already have UFO: Afterlight, but that is the 'updated' version. Should I bother with two entries? :P

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

+1, wondering the same thing.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

crap.
did not realize until I'd already activated the new-publisher-version. so now, yeah, I have two entries... :-/.
from this well-written post and some of Dwarden's follow-ups in that thread, it sounds like the two different AppIDs may eventually get resolved. So if it were me again, I'd probably not activate the other one if I had realized sooner that I'd already had the game, despite the Steam Store page not giving me any such indication.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Would I need ARMA II base game to play Dayz? I won't be purchasing Dayz standalone since the mod is more complete and has more features let alone so much cheaper. Kind of a rip off to sell such an unfinished game at $30 since most people who are buying it also bought ARMA combined ops. Such greed from a previous humble mod developer. Seems like money really does get to people these days.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You need the Operation Arrowhead too...

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yea but do I also need the base game or can I just get this bundle and play it with only OA?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Nvm thought the bundle only came with ARMA OA and not the base game. Derped out a bit.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You need to have both ARMA2 and Operation Arrowhead. If you buy the $6 tier, you get both so you're good to go.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You need both. But yeah, both of them are in the bundle :D

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You need the base game. There used to exist a free version of the base game that actually made it possible to play dayz without having the base game, but that free version got removed from the store.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You can still install the free version here on the Steam database

or a direct install link

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

yeah it still exists. I just made a group giveaway for A2 to the A2 free steam group haha

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

And the free version supports the DayZ mod?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, but you still need Operation Arrowhead as well.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You dont need Operation Arrowhead for the mod...

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes you do. It's clearly stated on the Steam page and on the DayZ website (Combined Operations = Arma 2 + OA).

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

DayZ standalone is worth every penny, my opinion. Some new features already have been introduced (melee system, better looting system, better inventory system, clothing, better/more responsive hit detection, etc.). DayZ mod has been really crowded with hackers lately and increasing with all these cheap deals and sales, so I wouldn't recommend it anymore.
But if you have never played DayZ, the mod may be a good start anyway ^^
