Can someone please enlighten me? What's the difference between DayZ standalone and the mod? Besides the obvious.

  1. Is the mod finished?
  2. Will the mod and standalone version be developed to the same point? Or will the SA have more features, etc?
  3. Will mod players be able to connect to standalone servers?

standalone = arma 3 engine, new features, the long awaited standalone. ALPHA. Costs $$. It's good, I've got it.

Dayz mod = the old version not updated for 2 years.

Mod and standalone different.

not by a long shot, and they are purposefully trying to confuse people into buying the 6+ bundle on the basis of getting the much hyped DayZ standalone now that it's out.

The standalone does not use the same engine as Arma 3. It uses a modified version of the "Real Virtuality 3" engine (Arma 2 uses the unmodified version). Arma 3 uses the "Real Virtuality 4" engine. Source

  1. Yes. The DayZ mod won't receive any more official updates.
  2. DayZ (the SA) already has a lot more features than the original mod and they will continue to implement new stuff on a regular basis.
  3. No, because Arma II and DayZ are different games.

Have no idea why so many people are confused by DayZ standalone and DayZ ARMA II mod. But the ad on weekly sale is pretty tricky. And I am sure they did this on purpose.

How exactly is that tricky? It clearly says "Arma II: DayZ Mod", not "DayZ". If people don't know what that means then they have to search the interwebs and not just purchase it and complain afterwards. You can't blame the humble bundle guys or Bohemia Interactive for the high amount of negligent people.

I don't blame humble bundle guys. I pretty want to blame Bohemia Interactive but for the price sake, can't blame them either. The reasons why I said it is tricky are 1st, humble bundle buyers are around globe, so there is a huge amount people whose mother language is not English. So there is a chance of misunderstanding the title. 2nd, humble bundles including things which are always not free. So some people would think that DayZ mod has its own price. And DayZ is on steam recent top sellers list, so some people would think they are the same thing. In conclusion, it is tricky for some people. You can distinguish them doesn't mean every people can. But Bohemia Interactive puts these game on humble bundle at such a low price. So really can't blame them either.

I see where you're coming from but if people don't speak English well enough to understand what it says on the humble bundle site, then they shouldn't purchase it and gather information first. Spending money on something even though you're not really sure what it is is simply just stupid and entirely the buyer's fault.

Damn, I wish I could buy that bundle :S anyway. Why do you complain so much? It is an AWESOME bundle, DayZ is in the 6$ tier cause you need ARMA II: OA to play DayZ. People complain about shitty bundles and now they complain about good bundles, have you heard about "charity"? What the f*ck guys...

You do know, u could buy many different bundles with 20$ and trade them/gift them, make someone happy, do charity and feel good from both sides, or maybe give it to someone poor with a internet connection and pc in their house and the whole family could enjoy?
