Hi SG, a few changes to the site today related to games and contributor value. In the past, the site had three types of games:

  1. Full Value Games: Full contributor value when they were given away.
  2. Bundle Games: 15% contributor value when they were given away after a set date.
  3. Blocked Games: Not able to be given away.

The downside was we needed to block games and remove them from the giveaway list when they were briefly free, or posted in large giveaways outside of our community. We needed to do so to prevent users from obtaining a high number of keys for free, and giving them away for contributor value on SteamGifts. Unfortunately, this meant lots of great games were blocked and users could no longer send or receive them. Today's update allows users to start creating giveaways for these games once again, but simply for no contributor value. However, please be patient as we work through the 1,000+ games that were previously blocked, and add them back to the giveaway list when appropriate. We now have four types of games available:

  1. Full Value Games: Full contributor value when they are given away.
  2. Reduced Value Games: 15% contributor value when they are given away after a set date.
  3. No Value Games: No contributor value when they are given away after a set date.
  4. Free Games: Not able to be given away, because they are currently free.

For assistance, when you're creating a giveaway, the game list will show * next to games that are Reduced Value Games, and ** next to games that are No Value Games. Keep in mind, these icons are just for reference, and similar to before, the value of a giveaway can change if we need to make retroactive changes.

I assume someone already asked this, but concerning private groups for giveaways that work with minimum/maximum ratios, would the games still affect that?

Let's say I am at -110$ in a group and it has a rule that all users should be at most at -100$. If I give away a game like Shadow Warrior Special Edition, will that still count towards the group's ratio (but not my SG level) ?

The group stats show the full retail price, as they always have. How an individual group wants to enforce its rules is up to them. I would imagine that any group which has a ratio probably won't allow you to give free games like that. But it's ultimately up to your group to decide.

Thanks, I assumed that was the case. I only have 1-2 keys that I want to give away, and I'd rather to it for a group rather than public in this case, some of my ratios need a serious fix anyway and those GAs won't help that much :))

Would be great if free games didn't generate points. Whenever there is a popular free giveaway (The Walking Dead: Season 1 being the latest) there is a point explosion on here.

The insane flood from the Bundle Stars Dollar Jumbo Bundle already gave us all more points than we know what to do with, even after the Humble Monthly already recently hit.

That's great and all, but when you are doing a giveaway and the game becomes free 6min before your giveaway ends and you get no value...that sucks.

The creation time counts

Then i'm unlucky. The last 2 giveaways i made didn't have value even though i checked if they were free.

where did you check it?
games can be added to the list later but still count from the moment on when the game went free

The time a game becomes available for free counts, not the time it is added to the "no value" list.

Example A:
You create a giveaway for a game (never bundled) at 3pm with a GA duration of 3 hours. Said game becomes available for free at 4 pm at humblebundle. It is added to the no value list at 4:15.
You will get full contribution value.

Ecample B:
You create a giveaway for a game (never bundled) at 3pm with a GA duration of 3 hours. Said game is available for free at humblebundle since 2pm. At 7pm someone adds the game to the no value list.
You will get full contribution value for one hour, after that you will lose the CV.

Hmm, since Steam gifting policy has changed, will it affect the way games discounted on Steam are added to the bundle list?

A cool thing would be to show games that are currently free with *** stars, but don’t let them be created as give aways
As it is now, you can’t find it in the list at all and this is irritating

Can anyone tell me if the threshold for non-bundled games getting added to the bundled list is always 95% (or more) off?
E.g. if a game has only ever been 90% or even 94% off, will it still give full CV?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

As far as I know a 94% will still get you full CV.
But you have to take into account local currencies. If it is -94% for you, there is a 90%+ discount probably elsewhere in the world too. Depending on different base prices it is likely that for example the russian price is effectively more than 95% discounted with respect to the US base price.

Please add this to the FAQ/

If I give a full CV game which is later bundled, CV for that game will drop to 15%?
I know how games are retroactively added to the bundled/free list, I'm aware of that, but I couldn't find this exact info neither here or in the faq

Why did my level decrease?

There are two reasons why a decrease could occur.
   * Values are calculated based on the current USD prices of games in the Steam store. If a game lowers in price, the value of previously created giveaways will adjust accordingly, and this will be reflected on profiles and levels.
  * Certain games on our site are flagged as "No Value" or "Reduced Value". This is done manually by our volunteers, and therefore there might be a delay before these values are assigned. For example, a game might be included in a bundle on January 10, 2018. If on January 13, 2018 we flag that game as "Reduced Value", with an effective date starting January 10, 2018 (the day the bundle started), then giveaways created between January 10-13, 2018 would have their value reduced accordingly.

Thanks cassio for your answer. I read both the faq and this thread and found that info that makes me imply that full value GA give 100% CV as long as they are bundled creation is the GA. So I can confirm this is the case.

Well .. if you give games away for a small group you ain't gonna get any CV... that was nice to notice after i gave 10 games away today
Don't get me wrong... i'm happy to give them away instead to let the keys just "die" cause the stupid jinglejam "activate before january 1st of 2022".
As i said don't get me wrong since In this way i got experience how to make giveaways and my irl friends got new games.
But i'm still disappointed of the system.
There should be better information when you make the giveaways and specially of these "special" rules.
I knew already that i won't get full value since the games were all bundled, but instead of getting even that 15% i got 0 for all 10 giveaways.

Anyhow
Happy new year for everyone!
Let's HOPE 2022 is way better than this 2021

The rule is that for giveaways that are only for groups or invite only, that you only get CV if there are at least 5 entries and since yours have 3, it's normal to not get any CV for that!

If a giveaway is invite only, region restricted, or limited to a whitelist or Steam group, it will only add contributor value if it receives 5 or more entries. This is in place to prevent small groups of friends from attempting to cheat the contributor system, and to encourage users to expand the reach of their giveaways. The whitelist feature offers an easy way to target a larger audience, and you can combine it with small Steam groups to receive a greater number of giveaway entries if needed.

If you are talking about the 5 entries, it is in the FAQ.

you should enlarge your GAs to more groups at the same time or mount a WL and share them both group+WL
sorry for you that your GAs gave you no value because of <5 entries
Wish you happy new year too

Could anybody explain to me how CV of Little Dragons Cafe got reduced? The only bundle I could find is https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/kP4lt/fanatical-build-your-own-anime-bundle and you had to pay 5USD to get it, so 91% sale
IIRC someone here said games CV only get reduced when it goes over 93% sale on official store.

The bundle Narga95 mentionned above took it over the threshold for being bundled. The rule is anything over 90% but its not a hard and fast rule as far as i know. Pretty sure anything 95%+ off is going to be considered bundled.

No.

As long as the bundle really is released one year later. If the bundle is release before your giveaway and support just forgets to add the game to the list, they may do is (a year) later and all giveaway from the bundled date will decrease to 15%.
