from Italy? hardly, maybe only if you are checking on the last possible moment, if you plan ahead and hunt for cheap flight tickets it's possible quite cheap, Ryanair alone has 10 routes from Italy to Koln (5 direct and 5 through Bergamo), and with enough dedication put into hunting tickets you could probably get them in time for gamescom for something like 30-60EUR both ways ;)

I travelled to Koln 3 years ago and flight was like the least expensive part of the trip - much less than tickets to Expo and especially accomodation in Koln. We paid 89EUR for 2 return tickets from warsaw to Koln plus 11EUR for flixbus (back then it was PolskiBus, but now it';s the same company) ;)

Anyway right now it's probably too late to go there cheaply, but if you really want to go - plan ahead, start thinking about going there next year and search for cheap flights and then accomodation months before ;) Travelling became really relatively cheap in Europe (excluding few specific countries which have crazu-high prices themselves compared to rest of continent) these last few years, that it if you approach it in a right way ;)
