If I could combine all of these:

-The more controlled pvp of WoW

-The fantastic atmosphere and leveling system of GW2

-The graphic capabilities of TERA

It would be perfect. But Guild Wars 2 is my vote.

Gotta be EVE. It feels like what you're doing in EVE actually matters & has real consequences, whereas every other MMO I've played just feels like you're goofing off. In EVE, if enough people don't show up to defend your territory, you can lose your home which can mean losing access to everything you have stored in an area, losing the ability to farm prime territory that you've built up, and more. If you lose a ship, even in a routine PVE mission, you've probably just lost a large chunk of money. What's worse, if you're some combination of unlucky and/or dumb & manage to die a couple of times in a row, you can even lose a lot of skill points; think of that as losing XP levels in most MMOs.

I also like how you're expected to be a cynical bastard in EVE (or else you'll be regularly screwed over by other players). Having played the game since 2006, people in other MMO communities are just too warm & squishy for my tastes now.

MajorMUD and TradeWars 2002, both of which are great games even today. I ran a BBS back in the early 90's and these we're "the" games to have and play.

Ultima Online without a doubt and Dark Age of Camalot on a close secound

All the mordern mmoRPG are shit and hand over anything to you with a spoon!
Its also not as community friendly as back in the days, where community was all!

Rift. The best MMORPG I've played in my life. I love Rift so much I had to cancel my subscription and stop playing it after about 7 or 8 months because I realized I spend too much time playing it. I miss Rift a lot, it's such a great game, but I won't play it again because it really sucks me in and I have some real life to live.

Guild Wars 2. Played last beta, before games was released. It is something fresh and different thus very interesting in the MMORPG genre.

I also loved to play Battle of the Immortals. It's a great Diablo-clone, plays exactly like Diablo but in MMORPG setting, that's why I loved it so much. Too bad it's F2P with a pay-to-win scheme so I abandoned it after I got to higher levels.
