Do you think forcing people to use "HAVE" and "WANT" in the trading section is a good idea?

I have over 100 bundle games in my current topic, and I'm not asking for specific titles, just ones I don't already have. The Have and Want sections would be great for smaller lists, not so much for bigger topics.

You could do it this way, don't know about others but I really like that you can just add all names people might look for in the [H] section and then list your games properly formatted in the description part, but to each his own I guess.

I really don't like having the same list twice (and a longer list will make things awful), and leaving it unformatted sucks. Even if getting it all formatted first is hell.

Copy & Pasting worked for me, even the linebreaks, however it doesn't seem to work for a lot of other people... hmm. Formatting everything with a punctuation system would be a mess for traders which have a lot of games in their thread.

In my case I opted to add it all without formatting, it was actually easier to just copy/paste it and leave the line breaks and everything in but I figured it's best to keep the [H] section as short/unreadable as possible so people don't look at it but instead scroll down, but again it's a matter of taste really i'm still toying around with it myself after all.
Now if only I could find that code we used to use on the old SG forum waaaaay back in puzzles, where you hide certain text (remember the puzzles where you had to check the page source?) It'd be awesome if that would work in the [H] section if you ask me.

Just do it my way. List items are bulleted with "asterisk + space," like so:

  • clean
  • up
  • your
  • trade
  • thread
  • please

Less people using the [H] section means more trades for me and other traders that did put in the extra effort so you won't hear me complaining.
But yeah, as a buyer I can understand your frustration give it some time people will most likely need a few days to get used to the new layout/settings.

Though I completely agree that everyone should be using the new system... I'm not sure why you'd have to force anyone to do anything though. If they want their threads found - they obviously will have to use the new system. This is an issue that will resolve itself over time if you ask me.

I actually thought about creating a thread which reminds people to use HAVE / WANT at first, but then I decided to create a suggestion for it. Hmm.

Twice my reply hasn't gone through. Testing with a post here.

Edit - Okay, WTF is going on.

Edit again - In reply to this comment, since the site has twice ignored what I've written and proceeded to lose everything I typed up after hitting Submit.

I understand the benefits of the new Have and Want sections, but I would prefer having a list I know is perfectly formatted with all the links, even if it takes a long time to prepare the topic given the number of titles. Having the list twice over isn't something I want to do when its 100+ games either. If I'm doing a shorter topic, where I'm sure of what I'd like in return, I'll use the new feature, but otherwise, I'll do as I always have, and just call it a bundle key trade topic.

About the post not appearing, I had this happen, too and it was leftovers from old scripts causing it. I don't mean just old scripts that I didn't disable, I modified one and forgot part of the old one in it and that was breaking most buttons.

Check your scripts for leftovers.

If the search feature searched in the content of each post maybe the have/want wouldn't be as important, but yeah right now they're pretty handy.

Well, that would be a good way too.

I'm not sure if this was already mentioned, but perhaps it would help to have two separate text entry fields for "HAVE" and "WANT," respectively, wherein users could fill the relevant data without having to add any [H]'s or [W]'s. Perhaps it could also work that there could be individual text fields for each item one wishes to list in each respective section, and more can be requested by clicking a button which adds further text field entries.

I wonder if http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/znWhf/comment-formatting-update would improve the situation of copying & pasting.
