During the summer I thought I'd try something that I've never tried before, and that is developing my own game. So Wordcharted was born. It's very simple, but the main premise is that it helps with procrastination and motivation when it comes to writing. It can be essays, things for work that you need to write up, or even a story. You set your desired word count and number of days you have to reach it. You also choose 1 of 4 animal buddies to be supporting you from the corner of your screen! Essentially, your word progress is tracked visually, showing you how much is still left to write and how many words per day you need.

Enough explaining, you're probably here for the giveaway train, huh? ๐Ÿ‘€
It's nothing special, but something small to say thank you for reading (or you skipped it all and just went for the GAs, how would I know lol).
Ticket here choo choo
Lmk if something isn't working, it's my first time making one. If there's any region lock issues, please allow me to delete/re-roll. All Lvl 0.

Anyway, I'm not sure what the demographic of SG is, my game is mostly targeted at university students like myself, or even high school students, but I believe it can be useful even beyond that. Feel free to leave any feedback or suggestions :)

I'm also a dev, and I encourage everyone to create projects like these. Besides learning a lot, you might create something big......... who knows?

Love the message! And even if it doesn't turn into anything big, it's a lot of fun making it :)

Woah thank you, this comment also made my day! I hope to get to see what you make in the future.
If I was to say one thing, it would be to not wait for the โ€˜rightโ€™ time, because there isnโ€™t one, just start whenever you can :)

neat idea! I especially like the notes + main doc combo. But I could never use a writing app without spell check. Is that offered?

Thanks! As of right now, there isnโ€™t a spell check. This is because I would have to find a dictionary that would be formatted correctly and that would allow me to use it license wise. As a beginner, it would also be quite complicated for me to figure out how to make it work. I understand the importance of spell check tho, and Iโ€™m definitely looking into it, so thereโ€™s some hope for a future update.

Currently what I do is that once Iโ€™m finished writing, Iโ€™ll copy and paste it into word/google docs/whatever you use, and then format it to my liking, correct any spelling mistakes, and polish it from there. I know itโ€™s not the most ideal, but I donโ€™t find it as too much of a hassle since I like to proof read anyway. Afterall, the main point is to reach the desired word count before the deadline.

Awesome accomplishment! Productivity tools are really in, I think because it's just so easy to lose focus for a minute and get sucked away into something else entirely nowadays.

Well done, Mortvie! I am impressed and tempted to finally get started with a coding project of my own. The getting started bit is always the toughest, I find.
May I ask which programming language (and which sources and tools) you used for this project? Maybe this will help defeat my procrastination.

Really cool stuff! Also, thank you for the lovely train. I may not have entered a GA, but I thoroughly enjoyed the dog pics and GIFs. ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ˜Š

Thanks! I made it in Godot, so the default language for that is GDScript. As far as I know tho it's also possible to use different languages in Godot if you already happen to be familiar with any.

Some videos I used were the following:
This is great for basics and seeing how the game engine itself works, kinda a must watch tutorial no matter what you're doing.
From the same youtuber there's also this, for GDScript specifically.
Then I mostly just searched for more specific stuff, or even googled some issues I was having for which there usually seems to be a forum question somewhere with someone solving it. Just be careful if it's an old response, since older versions of the engine may have done it slightly differently.

Gotta say I really like the structure of Godot, it doesn't take too long to become familiar with the layout, and sometimes you can do things directly in the editor without having to write up tons of code. Hope this helps :)

Oh and I plan on making better trains in the future hehe

Oh no, the train is lovely! I am just very picky by now when entering GAs. ๐Ÿ˜‹

Thank you for all the input, I will look at everything and hopefully manage to take that first step that way. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’™
