So i decided it is time to build a new PC because this PC is getting to old and its not worth upgrading it at all....
My budget is €1000 / $1086.
I don't know if there any PC building experts on this forum but i hope some people can help me with this i haven't build a PC since ages so i'm looking for some help..

I will be using this PC for Gaming, Recording, video editing and some basic stuff mainly running games at 1080p 60 fps
I want this PC to be future proof and easy to upgrade without having to change a lot whenever i want a better CPU or GPU or decide to overclock all of the sudden currently i also don't have a cooler because i really don't know what to choose....
If something would really increase my performance by a lot i could leave the SSD for what is for half a year and have another €150 to upgrade the motherboard or something else so.

The GPU will be a MSI Gtx 970 and the CPU must be from Intel for the other stuff i don't care about which brand or anything else so....

I haven't really looked into the prices to much i could probably gets some parts for less so thats why its over €1000
I probably need to change the PSU....

Quick note: I'm a real noob when it comes to building a pc so whenever i need to change something i probably have no clue what to choose xD

Thanks for the help in advance!

Here is some stuff i really want in it don't care about the other parts
CPU: Intel CPU all i care about
GPU: MSI GTX 970
RAM: 16 GB
HDD: 1 TB
Power Supply: 650W or 750W

This is what i have right now! (Yeh i know its missing a power supply)

Nothing its perfect as it is!

You can go smaller on the RAM. 8 gigs will be pretty good for now, and you can always upgrade later.

Nah 16 Gigs is needed for editing i think and 2x 8 gbs is better for me then 2x 4 for now or 1x 8 if i have to upgrade it later it will cost me more...

Dafuq, it won't cost you more. Buy 1x 8 GB stick, then when you need the 16 GB then buy another 8 GB stick. Eezy. But if you need it for heavy video editing then go ahead.

You may want a bit bigger of a power supply and have it be bronze certified. That way when you do upgrade or add more you don't have to worry about rewiring it all Yours is already bronze that is just a reminder if you get a bit bigger one

Yeah I'll take a look. Also I saw that your cpu doesn't fit your mobile. Check out the website pcpartpicker. It says if there is any compatibility issues with your desired parts. And don't listen to the other guy, get a ssd and make sure you put your OS on it

You would probably be good with a 650w but if you're going to go crazy with upgrades you may want to get a 750w. Check out this post for some good 650w options

Probably going with something like this
http://de.pcpartpicker.com/p/tz7b7P

But yeh probably going with a 750w maybe just to make sure i have enough for a long time and a better cooling system i think

Theres no need for a 650w or even higher PSU.

I got a 480w Bequiet one (so it's not one of those shitty chinese ones), running an i7, 980ti and other stuff with it.
You just have to buy a good one.

But the biggest problem you'll have is...that processor won't fit onto your Mobo...

You still had that AM3 mobo written all over the place when I opened this thread.

Anyway, like I said. a quality 480 or 530W PSU is more than enough if you don't plan on going SLI.

Don't stick with Haswell. Go with Skylake.

Didn't see this until now. You mentioned future-proofing. As long as you aren't looking for an i7 Skylake prices are fine.

The i5 4460 does not fit on a AM3+ Motherboard. For i5 4450 you need one with socket 1150.

Go with an EVO 850.

And since you want to both game and edit, 250GB might be a little less than you want.

Keep in mind, however, that prices on SSDs will continue to go down.

I don't really care about the case either as long as everything stays cooled and it has a panel on the right side of it so i can look into it thats fine for me....

Also i didn't include the case into the 1000 euro budget

I don't understand the attraction of having a window to look inside your computer. The only moving parts are the fans. Nothing much going on in there which is visible to the eye. Seems a shame to pay extra for such vanity. I just built a system with this case. It's budget conscious and conservative. What under the hood is what matters not what others can see: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146078

Comment has been collapsed.

Just to look if everything is fine in there and if there is a problem its maybe faster to look through the window or something but yeh maybe its more of a showoff thing but i will see what i get for the case maybe i will just go for the cheapest one on the market for like 10$ xD

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Although a cheap case is alright for most builds I'd recommend spending a bit more on a roomy case than a cheap one if you are building it yourself. There is nothing more frustrating that fighting a case just to get all your parts installed. Also cable management can be a nightmare in cheaper cases.

And if you're willing to leave out the SSD for now altogether, you can definitely do 6600K + GTX 970 + Z170 motherboard + 16GB RAM.
Later you can get an M.2 SSD I suppose.

Looks nice yeh i will leave the SSD for now but i really don't like the look of the motherboard... xD yeh im picky on that lol but is there anything that looks like the MSI MSI Gaming 970 Gaming AM3+ Motherboard has like the same specs as the one you choose?
And there already is 16 GB in that build :P

Also are u sure the cooler is good enough when i want to overclock the CPU?

That motherboard is the barest Z170. I put it in there just to get the price down. That's my motherboard :p

I only don't like that it doesn't have 5.1 in the back. If I had been paying enough attention I woulda spent another $10 for the Pro and left the ProS alone.

In terms of motherboard looks for Skylake, try this Anandtech article: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9485/intel-skylake-z170-motherboards-asrock-asus-gigabyte-msi-ecs-evga-supermicro

Edit: Keep in mind that most of those boards are quite pricey. When you go to each set of motherboards on the manufacturer page, you wanna be nearer the bottom of the page rather than the top.

Also, I think you can see how the different boards look on pcpartpicker, so you can just get a list of all Z170s at prices for DE and try to take a look at the ones that aren't too pricey.

Thanks. Just did my build around Black Friday and I'm satisified (i5-6500). I wish I had known about jet.com's desperate attempts to steal away Amazon customers as their 20% and 25% and so on discount codes (up to $50 on a single order) woulda definitely bumped me up to a 6600 (or even a 6600-K).

Coming from a Phenom II X2 I'm feeling good about it. Unless and until AMD catches up with Zen this coming fall (maybe), everyone with a Sandy Bridge i5 and later are all set for gaming for a good while.

Raid 0 speed up the computer while raid 1 secure the data on 2 drive but keep the same drive size

supposedly they will launch a new GPU to substitute de 970 so it shouldn't be more expensive but there is no way to know if the new architecture will be applied to every new GPU model, they could use only their new architecture on their new titan or 980TI.

If you're going for the DDR3 Ram, Amazon has a great deal on Corsair Vengeance which is the best DDR3 ram if you ask me.

Also go for Seasonic PSU, it's a lot more dependable than Aerocool.

Also as discussed before, it's an AMD Motherboard and you ask for an Intel CPU. I suggest you to either buy a FX 8350 (which would be my choice) or get a worse looking 1150 socketed Motherboard.

Also Sandisk is not really a reliable SSD, I suggest a Samsung one.

If I were you, I'd get the R9 390 instead of the GTX 970. AMD beats Nvidia at that price point this year. But if you've made up your mind, that's fine. It's not the end of the world.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I just don't like AMD in general also the only reason why they are beating nvidia is because of DX12 the new Core support or something and i most games still support nvidia nstead of AMD and i like their futures alot more.
I can always change in the future if the difference becomes really big i will change to AMD but its still not that big of a difference some im not taking the risk.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Um... no. Lol.
1- DX12 isn't even out yet for the most part.
2- DX12 would help the CPUs more than anything, "core support" doesn't exactly apply to GPUs...
3- Some games support AMD, some games support Nvidia. There's not much difference.
4- "Risk"? Really?

I'm going to try not to be overly offensive here, but you've obviously not done a lot of research on the matter, and you're pretty misinformed. DX12 would help AMD's CPUs for a lot of reasons. Namely because it will now favour more cores instead of lesser, more powerful ones, which it previously did. Which is what Nvidia has. This is largely due to the fact that the new consoles now have AMD APUs. And I said AMD is beating Nvidia at that price point because the R9 390, is quite simply, the better option. In-terms of price, performance and specs. Just like how the GTX 980ti beats AMD's equivalent this year.

By the way, I don't know if you are or not, but please never use GPUBoss for comparisons.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Mhm okay i really don't know it now anymore xD So many choices aaahhh
And guess i'm misinformed yeh....

Guess i should ask somewhere else about the GPU a lot of friends really told me not to get a AMD GPU so...
Or could u maybe explain me something about it add me on steam so we don't have to spam everything here pls :)

Comment has been collapsed.

i have for the most part used AMD GPUs because their better performance/price ratio on the price i normally buy.
IMO the only thing nvidea has better is the "software" support, things like shadowplay are not so ease to use on the AMD counterparts, however in terms of FPS/IQ on games AMD is better on the lower prices.

8 GB of RAM,
AMD card
intel i5 - for gaming / i7 - for photo and video editing

about 20-30% more W than your equipment would need.

Consider this:

  • 4-5th generation - cheaper and awesome , along with DRM3 RAMs
  • 6th generation - more expensive , a little but more awesome, and along with DRM4 RAMs

Good picks, my only change would be the HDD for something with more storage or backup oriented as in 2x3TB :D

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The HDD seems small, but you know how much you want. Otherwise, the list currently in the starting post is a good one. 6th gen Intel, the 970 is probably NVidia's only non-overpriced card, more than enough power (even a 500 W PSU could handle this rig), enough memory. Switch the GPU in mid-2017 to a DX12 one and you should be good at least until 2020.

Yeah if you are going for an Intel CPU you need an aftermarket cooler because the intel stock coolers are quite bad. The cooler is really small and on top of bad performance they get dusty and noisy fast. The cooler I suggest is "Cooler Master Hyper 212" because everywhere online you look for a budget and good cooler that name keeps showing up and price for it is only 30 something. You can aswell look at different coolers in a different price range just make sure that you look at the dimensions of the cooler before buying because those fkers can be really big. I have an "Arctic freezer xtreme rev 2" which barely fits in my case by few milimeters :D

If you have any questions on cooling feel free to ask since I had overheating i5 760 and did allot of research on that :).
