I haven't watched much anime for the last few months, but I'll say this: some of the more "mainstream" or formula anime that probably don't have too much artistic value, like Sword Art Online or Hunter x Hunter, I like just because they are very different to western media, and provide a nice entertaining break from reality. They make me smile in an honest way and engage my imagination that's a nice change from western reality-heavy shows.
But my favorite anime, like Death Parade, Shinsekai Yori, and my favorite manga Aku no Hana I enjoy because of how amazingly well they can convey very complex themes into 20 minute chunks of animation. There are masterpieces in any art form, so when you find the ones that really stick out to you, it makes it all worth it.
Yeah, anime uses a lot of recurring tropes that can be tiring after a while, but you could argue that for any art form, really. But I would say if you're getting tired of all the tropes and everything looking the same and feeling the same, try different anime, try anime that no one really watches, don't just limit yourself to whatever's popular right now.
I think "Anime" as a genre is too broad for most people to dislike all of it. There's a genre and type of anime for everyone, and there will definitely be some anime that you will find significant, you just have to know what you're looking for.

i don't like anime, at all.
i find the drawing style annoying for some reason, and it doesn't matter who's the artist. i think it's the big eyes or overdone expressions.
also can't stand how slow the story advances but maybe that's just in some anime i used to watch when i was a kid.
and i also dislike anime with little girls that are always screaming and wearing almost no clothes. so lame. *facepalm* teehee!

What do you mean with big eyes? I don't see anything wrong with them.
There's anime that does not have those uncanny valley eyes, silly expressions and girls that sound like dog toys, but it's a quagmire of garbage that you have to go through if you want to find them, that's why I don't bother with anime

Well i agree, your not even generalizing. I even think you might have forgotten the supposedly "nerd" character that is absolutely perfect and irresistible to any girl (see Sword Art Online for an example)
As things are right now, you have to go out of your way and look for good anime, All things considered there are a lot, maybe even more than in the Late 90´s , its just not popular. What you see on TV or Most popular anime are usually the ones filled with tropes.
As Miyazaki stated the industry is full with Otaku. Although it has been for a long time, the ultra violent almost pornographic 90´s anime where made by otaku for Otaku.
By closing yourself to the world you wont be able to write believable characters or situations
My favorite anime series are:
Bacanno, Monster, Honey and Clover
I find movies are more consistent in terms of quality
Recently i've been watching Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, seems like a mix between Snowpiercer and Attack on titan.
The animation is suburb and the badass character is a girl

I like it because it's fun, simple as that.
Regarding your issues, I mostly tend to ignore them since there's always something else that balances it out.
As for my favourites, here's a list sorted by genre:
Sports:
Romance:
Action:
High stakes Games:
Fantasy
Slice of Life
Mecha
Comedy
Mystery
Horror

I like anime boobs and cat ears. :V
But seriously, i like stuff like Initial D and similar animes, because i can make a connection to the characters. They're no ubersuper heroes, just normal guys with normal problems, just like you and me. :V
And Sailor Moon. Because Sailor Mars. :3

In short? Probably because the authors have more freedom in their creativity. If you produce something for TV you always have to keep in mind if it is realisable with the current technology. Animes can have almost any absurd setting.
Like with books, tv shows, movies etc. for anime as well there will always exist a lot of stuff you find horrendous or which doesn't interest you. But you should just ignore those. For some of your concerns (although already answered by other people):
The whiny MC is mainly for the shounen stuff which is aimed at a younger audience. In order to make the mc associable he needs to be mediocre so the normal teen can assoicate with him. It is also a bit about fantasizing that everyone has the chance for the "great adventure". If you have problems with that you should probably stick to Seinen stuff.
The fillers as explained before are in order to keep the anime from progressing faster than the source material (often mangas). I normally tend to not watch animes of mangas I read because there will always be changes which often make the anime worse in the story aspect.
For the few animes I've watched. Hm, the best one I've seen you have already watched: Puella Magi Madoka. 12 episodes where everything that happens has a purpose. A storyline going straight to the final and a series with no real villain. A lot of unusual stuff. Hm, what do I remember else: No Game No Life is an adaption of a visual novel, has only 12 or 13 episodes but is open ended. But is kinda fun to watch. Fate/Zero I've watched recently and the plotline while overall pretty simple is told in an interesting way. Maybe I'll remember more later.

There's one I really enjoy, The Irresponsible Captain Tylor. I love the story, soundtrack, humor, characters, art style, everything to it. I'm not sure if it has any of the things you mentioned or not, but this show has a lot of depth to it (and doesn't have a lot of what I personally don't like in a lot of anime, the cheesy/impossible facial expressions characters will make). Also, make sure you find the series that doesn't have OVA in the title (you should see 26 episodes ~20 minutes each (without commercials, which is how you'd view the episodes outside broadcast TV). The Irresponsible Captain Tylor OVA followup series is good, but only for fans of the original series, otherwise you'd burn out on it trying it first.
For Studio Ghibli/Hayao Miyazaki, another few I really liked were Castle in the Sky, Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro.

Soooo,
I've watched a handful of anime series, many of them when I was a kid, the typical stuff aimed for children such as Captain Tsubasa, Dragon Ball, Digimon, Doraemon, Shin Chan that sort of stuff, and lately thanks to a very insistent friend I've watched some other series, being them (from the top of my head): DRR! Bakkano!, Kekkai Sensen, JoJo's Bizarre adventure, Madoka Magi Puella Magica, Shigeki no Kiojin and like a bunch of them more I don't really recall the names now (should've created a mal, duh) one about a killers high school or something like that? I dunno
anyhow, the thing is that I was wondering what do you guys, fans of anime, see on these works to like them. It might be because I am not their target audience but I've encountered a bunch of issues on the media I've experienced so far.
Endless exposition: Like, most of the time, and with notable exceptions of course, anime episodes, especially those that tend to view themselves as more dark, or serious, have a metric ton of exposition in them. I sincerely hate exposition, isn't it better to hint at things and let the viewer put the puzzle pieces together (something I gotta praise Baccano! for) than actually spoon fed every single detail of everything that's going on, several times ?
Inner monologues: This might tie into the previous point, because often they go hand in hand and these monologues are used as an exposition vessel, but seriously. What's with having every single character state their feelings, reactions, opinions and insights "out loud" every two minutes, I mean this might be their style of work, but I appreciate more the media that shows the characters personality towards their actions and words, rather than literally spitting out their feelings every now and then.
MC's: I don't know if this is an anime trope, because I don't think I know enough to generalize, but every, single, one seems to have an MC which is some variation of whinny/useless brat (more often than not, both) who decides/is recruited to/stumbles upon/is foreseen to save the world/win the world cup/kill vampires or whichever plot line the anime in that case follows, honorable mention if it includes some kind of sister/loved one who is a tsundere and slaps him into reason at some point and tells him to keep fighting/not be afraid/stand for himself.
Filler: tons and tons of filler, from "Riding on Horseback: the anime" to "Texting in my computer: the anime" Chekovs gun, guys, don't put stuff in you're not going to use to advance the plot somewhere.
anyways, I don't know if this came out as attacking the fans or the works themselves, but I assure you that could not be further from my intention, in fact I'm willing to give it another try between dismissing an entire genre (?) (Is it a genre? It's more of a medium, well, you understand me) on some, let's call, first impresions.
So, guys, why do you like anime, which is your favourite series and why? Have you had issue with the points I raised? If so, how did you get past them?
Thanks a lot for your (possible) answers.
Cheers, luvs.
