I contacted the Be Mine support yesterday, asking if there's any way to buy a gift bundle and not send it immediately to someone else. They said the bundle is tied to the e-mail, so the best I could do was create a new e-mail, buy the bundle for it, and then give the e-mail. They were okay however with the idea that I gift the Steam keys. Since that's not allowed here, I will gift them some other way, probably on my Facebook page (and later, in any case).

You're right Raiden. But on the other hand... If you have already one or more games included in the bundle (happend to me twice)... Are you going to waste those keys instead giving them away?
Either way... It's very unfair if you're offering the keys while the bundle is still on!

In the past I had that happen to me. I gave the extra keys to a friend irl without making a giveaway out of it. I always use alternative ways to giving away things unless certain circumstances are met which I won't list so I don't spend too much money on giveaways

The mods are asleep sometimes and not able to search every giveaway for problems even when they are awake. There's a report button for a reason and I'm going to use it when necessary. Give away spare keys, sure, but don't break the fucking rules while doing it.

I offer you a key to open the chest to obtain another key which unlocks a room which gives you a key to open as many crates chest door as you want. all for a bacon shitting ponies.

I think that this rule should be revised. You should be able to prove that you have a copy of the game sitting in your Steam inventory if you want to gift these games.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, you can have the recipient confirm it's a traceable copy.
And for that matter, if the recipient doesn't mind receiving a key, what exactly is the harm in all this anyway?
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, someone (let's call 'em A) has to receive the original bundle purchase e-mail or key page.
Person A retains the rest of the keys unless A gives them away to persons C, D, etc.. B gets game X from A, but nothing else as A has access to everything else.

I don't think that when getting a game it matters much if it was bought at full price, at a discount, won on Steam, gotten free from IGN or was part of a bundle. Sure it's nice to get the full bundle, but it's also nicer to get The Orange Box rather than just Portal. That doesn't make the single game worthless.

Actually, I got an idea.
Make an additional field for the giver to specify when creating a giveaway: Is the giveaway a Steam inventory gift (whether tradeable or nontradeable), or is it a key?
If it is a key, it does not add to the points.
Now, we won't know for sure whether it is a key or an inventory item until it actually gets gifted. The recipient should be required to report whether it was a key or an inventory item. If an inventory item was promised but a key was delivered, the incident will be investigated, and the giver may be banned.

Eh, I'm not sure how I feel about that. For example, my recent MW2 giveaway was a key. It'd just be strange if that didn't get any points given to others for its creation.

does it really matter, he could have gotten though a friend or store. as long as the key works, it should be fine.

No, I'm just wondering where keys typically come from.

The ones I gave away I bought at Green Gaming Man. There are several stores which on occasions sell for less than Steam does.
I imagine though that a lot more keys were given here lately from IGN promotions than otherwise. Though I've also seen keys given off a Sapphire Select Club promotion. There was also that free Sanctum DLC promotion.

Interesting. At first I didn't get it, but I think you're implying that the reason for the rule is the points people get, and not anything else. I'm not sure you're right about that.
Even if we assume for a second that you're right, I don't think that should happen to all games, only those in bundles.

What about things like IGN Prime Rochard keys or Super MNC beta keys?

SMNC is not an option, so people give it away on the forums instead.
Promo keys (such as those from IGN, Alienware, Sapphire) can't be exploited, since you can either get one for yourself, or one to give away.
Bundles keys, on the other hand, can be bought in big quantities for a low price. For instance, with IndieGala you can usually get 5 games with $1, and now for much less: Bought in the first week? You get 4 bundles = 20 games -> $0.05 per game.

well i dun have many friends that play indie games >_<
and those that do, have the bundles themselves
now i found a couple of keys left from bundles i brought, but not the complete bundle.
and i thought i'd give them away.
i dont see where the problem is to create giveaways for them =/
if its just a matter of not beein sure whether the giveaway creator rly owns the key, since u cant see keys in steaminventories, that would just be a lame excuse. since i've seen a lot of ppl creatin giveaways, that have their profile on private an when u watch their inventories, u seem them empty. well whatever =/

The issue is that you can buy these bundles for a dollar. Then, if people were allowed to create a giveaway for every key in their bundle, they could buy five bundles and make two dozen giveaways, seriously boosting their giveaway stats and flooding the main page with these things and giving everyone way too many points.

I think that in reality the effect may be less than feared. There will only be too many points if people don't enter these giveaways, and I don't think that would be an issue. As for boosting someone's giveaway stats, that's an image thing, and I don't see why it's a huge issue. After all most people give away things they bought for free or cheap.

I don't see what the problem is with giving out certain keys from a bundle. I actually got some extra keys leftover after having given some to those in my list. I was gonna post them on steam gifts.com but if it's against the rules I guess I'll just give it to random people in Steam groups I belong to. Steam gifts is reminding me of a homeless person I bumped into after coming out of a restaurant. Said homeless person asked me for money so that she could buy food. I offered her an untouched wrapped sandwich and she turned it down saying it wasn't her kind of sandwich. :/

Your logic is almost as twisted as you. So buying a bundle = stealing from a starving orphan? Or is giving someone part of your bundle equivalent to stealing from a starving orphan? Whereas my logic is giving game codes from bundles you don't need to people on steamgifts; who's purpose is to give games to people for free but looks down on giving out individual games from bundles?

I don't see how it's actually stealing from the devs or charity when clearly you bought the bundle. I've also received leftover keys from friends and still went out and bought the bundle, because most likely than not the keys being given away are the least enjoyable game out of the bundle. If people were trading with these leftover keys, then I'd be on the same page with you as well. For those of you taking the cause of charity, if you care so much for charity go out and do something rather than buying a cheap bundle and feeling good about yourself. I myself donate regularly to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Red Cross, Unicef, and have also participated in a 2 day 100km hike for Oxfam.

We experienced a total of 57 Gish giveaways in under 3 hours. It generates a ton of points, gives users feedback credit for games we don't allow, and we want members that win to have full access to the bundle they won. This is the ensure they are entitled to anything else added to the bundle. Like what happened when SpaceChem was added. There are a lot of factors weighing in on the decision to only allow complete bundles, so the decision was made and it has since been enforced.
Please note this wasn't an easy decision, and it wasn't a moderator only decision. The community also demanded change because of the massive amount of Humble spam. Previously, we were experiencing 100 giveaways per hour.

If you're gonna make a giveaway from them instead of giving the whole bundle then what do you think will happen to the giveaway other than get ponies and ice cream sammiches and a horse that craps bacon non stop?
