Hello my SG friends,
You're lucky to be the first to hear about Lichenvale, a first-person hack and slash game inspired by the classics such as Hexen, Quake and Blood.

No, I'm not behind this title directly, have no part in design, coding (which means no terrible 2D sprites either!),but I am involved on the outside and I'm here helping out this news reaches you first, as I know people here like games and there are those brave souls who are willing to help out with testing, bug hunting, balancing issues and well, trying out new games.

Here's the story:

There are dreams and there are nightmares. There is death and there are swords and spells to stove it off. What will you do when dark specters come for you tonight? Players find themselves in the role of a young woman bothered by covid19-stress induced nightmares. Can you find your way through the labyrinths of darkness, or will you be trapped forever?

I have played the current alpha build myself and some previous ones too - wouldn't write about it otherwise and ask you to try it if I didn't do it myself - helped out with some balancing (as you can do if you try the demo and let the dev knows what you think in the discord) and I can tell you it's fun to play and is looking like it's gonna be a really nice 90's style action game. Also, while this is his first indie game to be actually released, he has a vast experience and even has worked for Ubisoft for some time.

Wanna know more?

Ah... My old Paragon days ;(

I knew that they released assets for free, but isn't there any problem selling a game with them (honest question)

Hey, Lichenvale dev here :)
They are free for commercial use as long as you use them in Unreal Engine project (which Lichenvale is).

Its a win win situation for Epic as more indies will be making projects using UE4, since they will have some AAA assets to use for free, which in return increases potential sales of those games, making Epic some money due to royalties as well as boosting UE4 presence.

Hmm, i got it. That makes sense actually.

Tho it feels little weird for me knowing where they are used in the first place :D

Good luck with the game :)

This kind of texture feels weird to me, I don't know why, but I like the game's premise.

That's the author playing, he's a bit advanced. When I play I do it much slower, and it's still fun. You can try the demo on Steam and see for yourself if you like it or have issues.
