Try listening to something that uses a lot of both high as well as low frequencies, hi-hats, deep bass, etc. Also, after using music to test, try finding some high quality recording of a conversation / voices, to see if that frequency range is well represented. For music, I always go for good old dub reggae and dubstep (NO NOT SKRILLEX CRAP) as a good test. Grime instrumentals also deliver a good spectrum to test with. Some of the deepest basses, and most crisp high tones in that somewhat related family of genres. Same goes for jungle / raggajungle. Very deep and warm bass, and crisp snaps in the high range.

Here's some stuff to try out:
Errol Arawak - Power Pack / Dub Power
Mala - Mountain Dread March
Compa - Signals
(^ very good quality, good range of frequencies to test with)
Compa - Earths Orbit
Compa & Ipman - Let Them
Compa - Acrid
Compa - Tibetan Chant
Compa - Narabeh
(^ on a decent headset, you should be able to hear the hi-hat that comes in around 1:07 phase from left to right and back)
Kaiju - Monsters
CITY1 - Nizaa
(^ the preceding two are both good quality recordings, very good to test higher range with)
Wiley - The Morgue
Dot Rotten - Better Than Them All (Instrumental)
(^ good instrumental with very clear and distinct samples frequency-wise, good quality, too)
Clip & Carbine - Hot It Up
(^ lower quality recording, mostly useable for a GOOD bass test. Well, this recording is a bit muddy, so not too great to test frequency separation / bleed with, but it's good for testing how much "oomf" you've got; this track's bass is ridiculous - see if you can hear / feel the bass around 2:16. I've made friends' new car audio setups cause entire cars to rumble like mad with that :D)
Illicit - Ain't No Sunshine
Fanu - Amok
Source Direct - Secret Liaison
(^ pretty OK quality [for a YT vid] and very broad range - also just plain one of the most sublime tracks ever, listen to it in full!)
Tipper - Dreamsters Tipper
(^good quality, and Tipper uses a lot of high/low-pass filters and tweaking samples in his tunes, a lot of phasing back and forth between very high to lower frequencies, very good to test with. He also does a lot of stereo phasing in his tunes, so you can hear whether or not your headset will give good soundspace / positional audio in games - see the next track for an example, listen to the bubble sounds)
Tipper - Bubble Control
Originoo Gun Clappaz - Da Storm
(^ including some [good] hip-hop so you can hear voices and hi-hats well, good quality recording here)

I know, I went a little bit nuts. Sharing music I like gets me going :D

Anyway, for all of them - of course - set the video to whatever the highest quality it allows. And bear in mind that these are all still Youtube clips, meaning shittily compressed audio, meaning lower quality audio. If you want to properly test your new headset, try to find a FLAC or at the very least a 320kb/s MP3 album off one of the artists I linked to and listen to it. These tracks are a good starting point, though, and will be very useful for tweaking an EQ with. I do hope your headset has some form of control software that allows a system-wide EQ. If so - every headset / speaker / driver has a different curve, and will need a different EQ setup. Tweaking it is essential for good quality audio, and different audio types (movie with a lot of voice / music of differing genres) will usually mean having to fiddle with the EQ a little if you want everything to sound nice and crisp, though I tried to account for that by linking to music that's all over the frequency spectrum, so you can find a good "general purpose everyday" setting to use as a baseline. When you wanna watch a movie, for example, you might need to turn down the lowest bass slider a little, and turn up the upper-mids a little to keep voices clear.

A lot of it actually, I'm not an expert on these thing but i like good music (by that understand that good music is what I like, not what other think that is good).

So, I've tested my headset.. I've listen to some good music, even subscribed to some of those channels because I liked the contend.

Some more good music:

Jah Marnyah - Anointed One
Jah Marnyah - Who Is To Be Blame - (Ungrateful Riddim)
Uzinadub - From the Tribe
(^ couldn't find any higher quality version online, it's a limited 800 copy release of theirs that's kind of a select track. It's been removed off Youtube by them, I noticed ;) )
Carlton Livingston - Who Dem A Fool + Dub
Fish & Goat At The Controls - School of fish dub
Shandi I & the Shanti Ites - Inna Sanctuary & dub

And some live dub (Aba Shanti I ▶ The Shanti-Ites - Positive Vibration) :D

Celldweller, he's good for everything.
But seriously, his music is so complex that you have to listen to the song at least few times to fully hear all of the sounds.

Anything from the Acid Gospel genre. ;)

Seriously you should test with music that is recorded with very high standards and at low levels. Most anything from American Gramaphone (ie. Mannheim Steamroller). Certain artists always insisted on high quality recording. A few that come quickly to mind are: Frank Zappa, Rickie Lee Jones, Pink Floyd had some special released versions of albums that were of higher quality than normal.

Listen do what you listen most, I'd say. You'll notice all the differences you might not in other songs.

Sound & Vision always gave Nine Inch Nails cd's high marks calling them reference quality

Here is a link to a free and legal download of one of their albums http://dl.nin.com/theslip/signup

The music is available in a variety of formats I'd choose a lossless quality version or the higher-than-CD quality 24/96 WAVE format.

If you want your headset to pay off than only listen to high quality music otherwise you will hear same crap as before. High quality is sometimes hard to come by and it weights more (it takes more space on HDD) but if your headset is good than you will feel shit that you can't forget and you won't go back to cheaper headsets.

U bought wrong headset for music, just my 2 cents :D

For that money its better to buy separate headset and microphone, u just fell for marketing (btw they are not 7.1), modern games have better surround on regular headphones when u put them in options on headphones, than those quazy 7.1 virtual surround... u hear with 2 ears... if some of u dont believe me, just plug in your regular headphones, disable your virtual garbage, close your eyes and enjoy click here

why not pick the music you would listen to the most?

as in most cases head set will have its strong points for example, one might be really good with bass, where another one might stand out in the mids and highs and so on

imo you should go with the music you listen to most and use that as the starting point

a nice after market sound card would go a long way for better listening and use of an EQ,if you already using one great if not they are still miles ahead of onboard unless you have a high end board with nice audio

me i am more of a fan of low bass, but not over powering, with a bit of nice mids, but easy on the high

but i had to compromise and go with one that had really good bass, lacked in the mids, but was decent in the highs

and on a side note, imo stay away from 7.1 and find a nice stereo set,as they will perform better but that is just imo

as even if it is true 7.1 there are so many speakers close together that it is hard to tell where it is coming from

I'd prefer the Howling Abyss sountrack from League of Legends. The gameplay from LoL can be annoing cuz of morons in the community, though the game itself has amazing music. You should give it a try.
