At 41, I can answer yes to both of those... however it was closer to the realm of the Commodore 64 and Atari 2600.

You would have to define "kid", "home computer" and "console" first :P
Personal computers go back as far as at least 1977. Consoles could probably date from around early 1970's if you include things like Pong. So yes (or maybe no) . But yeah 50+
