How do you block the banners that pop up from steam saying "Your friend is playing..." and "Blank Group is having an event"

Steam > Settings > Friends Tab > Notifications & Sounds section at bottom

(Un-tick "When any Friend joins a game"/"When I receive a message"? Not sure how the event notifications work actually as none of the options seems to apply.)
