I recently purchased a CM Storm Inferno and it was defective. It works fine but it keeps making a horrid ticking noise even with slight and/or small gentle movements. I exchanged the mouse for a Logitech G9x but this time all is good except for the tilt wheel. The tilt wheel doesn't even do what it was designed to do which is to scroll left and right. I can change the tilt wheel button features like going forward or back a webpage but that doesn't work either! I dunno. I don't want to keep returning computer mouses every time. I fear that If I return my Logitech that my replacement will be DEFECTIVE as well! I wish I know what to do right now. Buying computer mouse isn't that hard but why does bad luck always strike against me. Keep getting defective things. I hate this. So what do I do now? Should I just keep this mouse? It works fine except for the tilt wheel buttons. So yeah, I basically lost two buttons and can't even use them to do anything. What a waste. I was going to use them for good use but it doesn't work. Oh well...

It's a Logitech G9x MW3 Edition BTW. I got that one because it is same as original but far cheaper.

By tilt wheel buttons... I'm assuming that you mean pushing the wheel to the left or right?

Ah. Out of curiosity, what do you usually use that for? I ask because I normally treat a mouse as having 5 buttons (Left, Right, Clicking Down Scroll Wheel, and the two on the side), rather than 7.

Well I was going to use that for the convenience of scrolling left and right as what it was designed to do as default in the profile settings but it doesn't.

I even changed it to do other features like going foward or back a page and it doesn't work either. Same goes for any other function for these buttons.

Hmm, I'll have to keep an eye on this thread to see if you end up finding a solution. I also use a G9x, and extra functionality is always great.

Actually, I just tested it. The tilt wheel seems to work fine in Chrome :P

On my g700, I have three different profiles on my tilt wheel. My browser mode allows me to move left and right on a scroll-able page rather than going to the bottom scroll bar. In my MMO(mostly GW2) profile, it makes my pet use it's special ability, and to come back to me. In my FPS mode, I use it as switch to grenade (in the games that require you to pull out the grenade and then click to throw) or as chat/help features that you don't need very often in combat.

Once you are inside, there's a tab "buttons" on the left. Then the 2 buttons you need to configure are the n6 and n7. If they are not already set to "back" and "forward", set them to that.
In any case, good luck.

hmmm it says SetPoint lets you customize your mouse buttons but doesn't the Software for this mouse do that too? So what's the point?

I got a G400 from Logitech to replace my MX518 and mouse button shell was loose. It would rattle constantly. I sent it back, and they sent me another new one with the same issue. I sent the second back, and the third had the same issue. Their e-mail response said this: "Dear Sean, I can't guarantee that the next G400 I send or you buy will be without this, what you call a defect. I do apologize to you but there isn't much I can do." I TOTALLY FLIPPED, and now I dont buy Logitech anymore.

Its not your fault! I never ever recommend Logitech anymore. Its sad as for so many years they were great with me, but the way they treated me with the G400 (and 2 replacements), and the lack of care for a product that was being sent in less-than-perfect condition, finally stopped me from buying their stuff.

Those words are easy to hate, and a reason to boicot.
This reminds me when the previous tv crashed and a man came to fix it. He let it making a ultrasound I could hear but him nor the rest of my family. So he rejected to touch it again as the tv worked, he considered me mad. 4 years hearing the ultrasound when it was turned on.
Same happen with a monitor after some time started doing that noise. But seller would say they don't hear it. Whatever to not check it with a sensor "cause they don't have such things" It's you trying to get a new product.

I stopped buying Logitech stuff when I bought an expensive (£60) keyboard that wouldn't let you press shift, W and space at the same time (e.g. to run and jump). Their reasoning was "it isn't sold as a gaming keyboard". No shit, neither was any other keyboard I have ever used, no matter how cheap, and they all worked! Apparently it was/is a scam to sell more of their G range gaming keyboards. Utter shits.

OH and the G910 headset which required a driver reinstall every other boot to start working again properly. Known issue, never fixed.

Haven't checked for certain if tilt is adjustable to what you want, but uberOptions may be a solution.
[edit] Nevermind... skip uberOptions... noticed in the notes that G9/G9x aren't compatible with it. uberOptions is a fairly old project, so it's not uncommon that it's a little rough to get it working anyway. [/edit]

However, since the other tilt setting you tried isn't working either, I'd guess that the drivers didn't install correctly -- it might be using a basic mouse driver. Did you follow the installation instructions when you got the mouse?
The tilt within my own Logitech mouse is a physical contact switch (I've opened up the mouse multiple times over the years to clean it) -- it's pretty hard to imagine both sides being defective, if yours works the same.

[edit] Another commenter's remark about a setting working in Chrome made me also think of another possibility: SetPoint's AppOverrides. By default, some buttons work slightly differently in certain applications, mostly browsers. They are configured from an XML file and manually editing it requires closing SetPoint, editing, then restarting SetPoint. The location for me is C:\\Users\\{your_username_here}\\AppData\\Roaming\\Logitech\\SetPoint\\user.xml on Windows 7. If you don't know what you're doing in here or what an XML file is, it may be better to leave it alone for now. [/edit]

You can never go wrong with steelesries. Just don't get the Kana, if you don't want the extra buttons, just get a kinzu v2 pro. If you do, save 10$ more and get a Sensei Raw.
