[Edit] The Game is unfinished .. It has super great potential .. and many great ideas .. crafting is good and all
but the game is heavy .. but there is kinda lots to do ..and there are kind lots of bugs for now .. well .. it deserve a shot sometime soon .. not now .. but it 's (going) to be the best survival (at some point) .. for now get it if you want to try it so much .. it is going to worth is soon

(old)
so i kinda screwed myself these last days spending money on things i fail to remember the reason why i got them :D .. so that leaves me with 15$ now .. since i am not from usa .it's kinda good money.

(those 15$ are which are meant to be spent on games ..etc)

so there is this game "the forest" the game seems promising .. it's like a remade of rust but in way better graphics
but rust is actually using the same engine (unity) so it may have the same graphic one day ..

so cut the long story short .. for people who tried the forest is it worth it ?
as i heard it's filled with bugs now and there is not much to do ..

so a fair detailed opinion would be great!

sorry no giveaway this time

The top 5 reviews on Steam are positive, something quite rare for an early access game. I haven't played it nor do I know much about it, but it's sure to come with bugs, so that's nothing to be of surprise. Personally, I'd wait and see how good the developers are at adding patches - if they regularly update it and are tackling the major issues, then it's probably worth buying. If they don't, and you buy it, you'll probably regret it.

so waiting is good option in this case ?

The top review is just some idiot talking about his playthrough, they're not exactly the most reliable gauges. Rust's top review was Garry sucking himself off for the longest time also.

after reading the reviews it looks like the consensus is that it was released way to early to even call it early alpha - more like pre-pre-alpha so i would suggest waiting and see how the game develops over the next couple of months before committing to the purchase. Your 15 can be better spent elsewhere for sure.

And if you are going to get it, I'd suggest getting it from a reputable trader on SteamTrades, because the Russian version is a lot cheaper than the EU or US versions :)

Then you have cash to spare to get something else too!

only trader i found was for 6 keys

No. Full price for any unfinished, broken, "alpha" game is not worth it.

There are hundreds of finished, polished games you can buy on Steam; many for less than $15 is you wait for sales. If this game really interests you then buy it when it's actually done.

+1, there are also tons of survival games, and mostly(or all) don't get updates constantly, do NOT buy for full price, better buy a couple games on sale.

Based on what I have seen from streams it's insanely buggy, but the concept is fun. It's not worth it right now, but if the devs don't abandon it and fix all the issues it maybe worth it in the future. But I'd skip it for now.

I bought myself and a friend a copy today, based on the word i have heard, the game is buggy, broken and totally unfinished, but what is working is working a treat and the potential is great.

Worth a buy at any stage tbh.

You can't say a game is unfinished when it has just entered Alpha dev. It's like tasting a pie before it goes into the oven and you say it tastes like sh*t.

or in this case like tasting cookie dough which is still pretty dam good.

More survival than horror, the enemies are just mildly disturbing and stalk you.

yeah...instead of adding a singleplayer mode to an unfinished game, just delete some stuff from there and put it in another game we can also sell. Maybe we make a third one...people love buying our stuff. We sell "hope", cause their imagination what it could be one day is greater than anything we ever could build in.
(i know sarcasm & Internet is like fire and ice, but on the other hand frogs can't read the rules)

They do not "add a singleplayer mode" to the game. The Forest is a singleplayer game with a (planned) multiplayer mode.

yeah what a surprise...maybe sarcasm really does not work....

well funny thing is this is their first game .. so there is not another "multiplayer" version .. even funnier that they kept delaying the game from 2013 when it was planned to make it better .. even funnier that this isn't sarcasm that's just being rude to everyone who bought it :)

what is first or second is more or less a question of market-entry...at least their intention to keep both of them not to similar each other is obviously...or maybe it´s just a rude bad trolling from me...does not matter, there will be enough customers these days and selling hope is not a bad thing, it´s an very old business...you should respect this.

okay .. i don't like internet fights .. i am not the dev. of the game .. but what i do hate people thinking they see everything and below them there "people" who are just stupid .. and anyways if you hate the game :D
why did you enter the thread

i did not write that I hate it ( instead of I honored the clever decision to keep things splittet), neither that people buying it are stupid..and if you would like to read the things like that, to bite around....bite me , but stop calling people stupid that love hope

Technically, it's not finished. That's what the whole "Early Access" gimmick is all about.

Worth buying in this state? Hell no, but at least they are continuing work on it.

It could be a tiny bit worth it to buy it but the trailers seemed to show the game is ready to be played. I was wrong. I cant believe the trailers didnt had the bugs everyone has...

Don't but Early Access. Don't encourage this horrible trend.

There we go. Simple.

If you like a dev and know that dev will deliver based on previous experiences, why not help him fund his game or dream game that he has no funds to fund himself?

Sure don't go willy nilly buying every early access you see but come on, its not that bad and hell the way games are released now(Watch Dogs example) its not so different then buying a finished released game.

I have several reasons for this attitude.

Early Access are not guaranteed to be finished, ever. Indeed there are games already being abandoned and buyers are left without any protection whatsoever. Refund from Steam? Good luck. By purchasing early access games, we send a signal to developers that we're willing to buy unfinished products without even the guarantee of a finished game in the end. Only in this weird video games industry is this possible. Could you imagine they selling a movie without sound or un-inked graphic novels?

A lot of people retort with "no one forces you to buy Early Access". This is indeed true, however, more and more games become now Early Access because of the popularity of these Early Access titles. And they are most likely not popular because they're Early Access. We didn't buy unfinished products 5 years ago - did the video game industry REALLY need it? I say no. BUT That's only my humble opinion.

This Early Access trend is of course not the only thing that is wrong with modern gaming. Season Pass builds on the same premises, buying something that you don't know will be good and blablabla. And STILL people buy it. It's so weird to me.

I hope you didn't TL;DR.

PS: I enjoy Watch_Dogs. Uplay might be retarded but the game is fine.

Sure its not, but thats why I said: "If you like a dev and know that dev will deliver based on previous experiences, why not help him fund his game or dream game that he has no funds to fund himself?"

I am not saying throw your money at Mr.Nobody but really if its a well known dev, its pretty safe, I mean take Wasteland 2 for example, I am pretty damn sure thats gonna be finished. It's basically a Pre-order that lets you test the game if you want before its release.

I can agree with Season passes being terrible though, man how I wish we could go back to full fledged expansions.

Watch_Dogs runs pretty bad and well many bugs in this one, feels like its not finished, I can compare it to Early Access, maybe like a Beta, not an Alpha of course.
