Xbox360 one, works out of the box on many many games.

Ironically, the Xbox 360 controller is the most Universal PC controller. Windows supports it out of the box, and most games support it out of the box. Generic Xbox 360 controllers(like Madcatz and Gamestop brands) also usually work, just make sure you either go wired, or if wireless make sure it comes with a cable that plugs straight into the controller and not just it's battery pack.
PS3 controllers are a pain and usually require using Pad-to-Keyboard Emulation software. Wii controllers are the same.
Generic PC Gamepads are hit or miss. It depends on the game, but many major games are very picky. You can try your luck with a 360 controller emulator like x360ce, which remaps the Gamepad to a modified 360 gamepad driver, but you have to copy it into each games folder manually and it becomes a pain. Sometimes some games flat out won't work with it or are tough finding the right location to put it.
In the end, for the least headache, 360 all the way.

Not if you have the SCP driver and things from Scarlet. crush productions. With that setup my PS3 remote works pretty well. If you remember that the ps3 and xbox remote layout have no real difference except the face buttons,
then you should adapt just fine.

i got a logitech f310 a few months ago and i've been happy with it. used it with psychonauts, super meat boy, bastion, bit.trip runner, and rogue legacy so far. the f710 doubles the price to give you wireless and vibration, which wasn't worth it to me. as far as i know windows seems to think it's an xbox controller.

I have this, too. Might be the best bang for your buck. But while sturdy, it feels pretty barebones. If money's no object, I personally feel the Xbox 360 controller is the most comfortable.

I got the F510 myself (same as the F310 but with vibration) and I'm very happy about it. Plus it has a swith to go from Xinput to Directinput so it will work with every single game, old or new.

Logitech F 710
Playstation designed X box controller with xbox input and direct input and logitech guarantee (very very good)

So it's best to get Xbox360 ,the normal one,for the console..& get usb adapter/use it only wireless?(using XboX360 CONSOLE version Wireless on laptops/routers works without adapters?or adapter required or cable only xD ?)

If you want to use a wireless Xbox 360 controller, you will need an adapter.
I would say the wired Xbox 360 is the best option; it is just plug and play.

+1 2,7M/9ft. cable is long enough and you don't even have to charge it...+the battery is not in the way when you hold the controller :P
Comment has been collapsed.
Exactly. I even have to tie the cable because of how long it is. lol
And that outrageously big battery pack... urgh, I had forgotten about it.
By the way, the Xbox One's wireless controller can be used as a wired controller and without batteries by simply connecting it to the PC with any micro-USB cable (it will be compatible with PC starting on 2014 though).

There is an extra version for Windows including the wireless adapter
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Controller-Windows/dp/B004QRKWKQ
And to one wireless adapter you can connect up to four controllers

I am working on PS3 gamepad via MotionJoy(there is offline v.) and it is just awesome. Wirelessly(with cheapest USB bluetooth). It is not only great for games, but also as remote and 'addidtional buttons' for macros. :D
btw Using six-axis as a way to control mouse/movement in some games is insane. :3

I just have a logitech gamepad. Never let me down.

I have a logitech as well, and never had a problem with it at all.
And it's pretty damn old at this point too, so it speaks to the quality. It's an old Logitch Dual Action gamepad.
I think I've had it for the better part of a decade at this point. I'm certain it's at least 7 years old, but I'm pretty sure it's slightly older than that. And it's still working perfectly.

Rockband guitar. Get on my level.
While I am just kidding, all the wired Rockband instruments actually work in Windows, and so do the Guitar Hero equivalents. The microphone works as well. Whether a game will actually support a Rockband controller is up to the game.
I actually use a black, wired, Xbox 360 controller. Just about everything that should support it, does. Terreria is one exception, but I think if a developer actually cares about their game, they will support both input types. I'm just glad I got that one for 75% off. I can dig using keyboard and mouse for a shooter (in fact I prefer it) but for platforming? Gotta go with gamepad.

I prefer wired controllers. The xbox controller does work great. However, if you want a few more features, I would recommend a Razer xbox controller. I have the Onza, and I have not found a game that supports the xbox controller that won't support it. It has a longer cord, a couple extra programmable buttons, adjustable stick tension, stuff like that. They also have a new one out that looks really cool, but I haven't gotten to use it yet. Hope this helps.

Having used both PS3 and Xbox360 controllers I prefer the PS3 one, but that's just me. It works great if you use MotionJoy. Only thing that may bother you is that you need to learn the layout, but you can configure it to your liking with MotionJoy.

For part 1, there's no sockets for the battery if you have the Xbox 360 one. The PS3 one has it built in, which is a hassle if it dies.
For part 2, you can well connect the Xbox 360 one to a USB extender and it will work just fine. As for the PS3 counterpart, I wouldn't recommend it as people have reported problems trying to get the controller to work if it's not on its own USB port.

my logitech f310 doesn't have battery sockets. it's half the price of the wireless version and i didn't care about the vibration motors the wireless version has so wired made more sense to me. the wire does get in my way sometimes though, but then i just move it a little.
i haven't actually tried using more than one controller at a time but i do also have an older logitech wingman rumblepad (which worked great for psychonauts before i bought the f310 for nicer rounder buttons) so i guess i could try sometime.

Yeah but i want to play co-op with my father Trine 1-2 etc & with some other neighbours gaming parties :P xD Mortal Kombat etc...& it's awkward to plug 3-4 keyboards LOL & i think it's easier with the joysticks lolz.

Is there any that has multiple options enabled?like WIRE, USB wire, Wireless :)?any XboX 360 that has all these 3?:D
Comment has been collapsed.
Wire is already USB. There's no controller sold nowadays in stores that isn't.
As for having both, what's the point?
Battery of controller dies pretty fast. So if you are not careful, you would end up losing in a game just because you have to recharge or replace the battery.

This is the one I got. Very generic (but thankfully a clone of a PS2 controller, the only type of controller I'm used to, and costs like 9€), but so far the only game it's worked for out of the box is Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition (ironically, that's the only reason I got it for). Tried using it with TF2/Alan Wake to gimp my gameplay for the lols, but no dice, I guess you'd need 360 controller emulation for those

I used to use a controller without xInput, while it didn't work for every game I tried it on, it did with 95% which is pretty good. Xpaddetr can pick up the slack on the last couple titles.
Easier: I got a 360 wireless instead after the generic one broke.
