I love metroidvania games! I'm in, if you let me. Hope this suffices as proof:

I love metroidvania games, which is why I have to say that, based on the trailer, Dungeon Gambit Boy does not look like a metroidvania at all. It's level-based instead of having one big connected map, and I didn't see any new abilities, optional upgrades or backtracking.
Basically, it looks like your typical ultra-hard action platformer.

https://steamcommunity.com/id/xarro93/stats/SuperMeatBoy?tab=achievements - Never tried that "without dying" challenges, but I'm proud of my Golden God.
https://steamcommunity.com/id/xarro93/stats/appid/387290/achievements - Ori - Done on hard, "one life" doesn't sound like something fair, so I left it :P
https://steamcommunity.com/id/xarro93/stats/CaveStory/?tab=achievements - I was on the way to the secret ending, never finished it... But I got the normal ending.
https://steamcommunity.com/id/xarro93/stats/TheSwapper/?tab=achievements - More of "think" than "skill", but I really liked it.
https://steamcommunity.com/id/xarro93/stats/268910/?tab=achievements - Cuphead - not a Metroidvania, but still. "Gambit" is not that kind too.
https://steamcommunity.com/id/xarro93/stats/286100/?tab=achievements - You Have To Win The Game - and I won!
Super Panda Adventures - no achievements, just wanna bring this title up. Underrated!
I also finished Metroid: Zero Mission (GBA) and Super Metroid (SNES). Platformers are love/life.

I did fully beat Cave Story+ but on the non Steam version years ago. So can't ask to participate, but I don't mind.
I also played every metroidvania game that came up in http://jayisgames.com/ when Flash games were popular. Especially memorable are the Robot Wants series. :)

I usually enjoy a difficult platformer and i embrace the challenge. I really love Edmund McMillen's platform games. I have beaten SMB on a DRM free copy and although i bought it on steam as well i haven't played it yet. The last challenging platformer i played and enjoyed very much was The End Is Nigh. And though the unbreakable SuperMegaCart was a pain i'm proud to say i beat it and thus 100% the game. :) Here are my chievos.
As for metroidvania platformers i really liked Teslagrad and i would recommend it to anyone that hasn't played it yet. Here are my chievos for it.
I can promise that if i'm in and win i'll play and try to 100% Dungeon Gambit Boy as well.

This is sort of an eh entry, but I'll give it a shot anyway. It can't hurt to try, right? ;)
Perusing my list of high-rated games in my library, all of which being games I actually played long enough to confidently rate, a few items pop up, but I think only one matches what you're looking for: I have 29 hours into Unepic, which gave me a fairly reasonable 30/57 achievements. That seems fairly little, but it's enough to make it my 8th most played game on Steam... I really should finish it soon.
The following are stats from a few other games I really liked but played little, so they don't count for your purposes, but I figured I'd mention them just in case: 70 minutes of pure suffering went into Super Meat Boy, unlocking a shameful 2/48 achievements. I really mean the "suffering" part, and it was physical suffering, even, because my fingers and wrists were in actual physical pain. I seem to have only played it once, probably unconsciously avoiding the physical damage it caused... In either case, in my 2 hours in SteamWorld Dig, I unlocked a miserable 2/24 achievements, while my 2 hours into Guacamelee let me unlock a slightly more acceptable 8/60 achievements.
Anyway, I know that's not what you're looking for, but I figured I'd share some of my memories of platformers on SNES; these days I play strategy games most often, but platformers were the big thing in my gaming world when I was young, and I'm sure I must have sunk at least 10k hours (!) into SNES platformers. I can no longer remember how many times I got to 100% completion on SMW, which was the first thing I could call "my favorite game", to the point I still remember some of the tricks to unlock secret maps and whatnot, after all these years. I also managed full completion on all three DKC games (including 105% on DKC3, which is achievable by making the game far, far harder than it would otherwise be via TUFST cheat code, not to be confused with the not-quite-so-hard HARDR cheat code). I also played SCV4, my first Castlevania game, but kept sucking at it for some reason; perhaps surprisingly, I haven't ever had the pleasure of owning a Metroid game. Other SNES platformers I sank hundreds of hours into include Disney's Aladdin, the two Disney's Magical Quest games that got released in the West... Oh, God, stop me, I'm having a nostalgia trip that's making me crave playing some SNES again; perhaps I should play Yoshi's Island, which I never managed to get into. Damn, those were really the times... :D
Edit: I always get markdown wrong and mess up my links... When am I ever going to get them right on the first try? :P

Hi. I played a about couple of hours each in both SteamWorld Dig and Guacamelee between my last post here and the deadline, but I... didn't exactly go much further (between the two, I think I unlocked like five achievements), so I figured I'd let the GAs conclude before returning, to avoid running the risk of making it seem like I was begging for a chance to participate, and then I... sort of forgot to return, lol. Sorry about that.
Anyway, shamefully reporting back to announce my failure at my mission. Maybe next time. Thank you for the chance, though. :)
(Fun fact: a few days ago, I actually won Dungeon Gambit Boy via another GA! :o)

I beat You Have to Burn the Rope on my first try. 😉
Seriously, though, I once got through the hell ending of Cave Story (before it was on Steam, and don't ask how many attempts were made), but difficult platformers are not my thing. So I'd probably be happier not entering these GAs.

Platform games is probably my favourite genre, Castlevania Symphony of the Night being one of my favourite games all time. I also enjoy frustratingly difficult stuff like IWBTG, VVVVVV and the Mario hacks.
As for Steam achievements:
Axiom Verge - Beat it, 100% all items on Normal. Got pretty far on achievements. I still would like to get the rest of the achievements eventually, maybe in the summer I'll get back into it.
Alwa's Awakening - Beat it, 100% items. A terribly underrated puzzle platform game. I tried to go for the speed running thing but going that fast with < 5 deaths on a trap filled game is probably out of my league.
VVVVVV - Beat, 100% items. This is possibly the most proud I'll ever be about getting <50% on a game. The difficulty of that stuff is insane, especially no death mode.
Cave Story+ - Beat it a few times, not 100%. The reason I didn't do much on it is because I played the hell out of the original 10+ years ago, and also takes several playthroughs to go through everything. I stopped right before Hell dungeon, which I had already beaten back then.
Momodora III - 100% achievements. A bit short, also an underrated game.
Momodora RUtM - Beat it, 100% items. Amazing game, but the shop system and grinding kinda bored me.
AVGN Adventures - I beat it on Easy I believe. I stopped halfway through on Normal. It's on my list next Halloween.
MagiCat - I got halfway through. Awfully underrated. Not that challenging because there's so much resources, but you can challenge yourself for score and getting gems without dashing, it's pretty difficult. Game's really long too, with 80+ 3-stage + boss levels, but there's always a new game mechanic introduced so it manages to stay relatively fresh.
And Yet It Moves - Not that great game, but it's my second highest playtime game on Steam, the challenge kept me at it. I went for 100% and failed miserably. It's a platformer with gravity changing mechanics and death from falling from too high. A bit clunky and takes a long time to get the hang of.
Also, if I might post a non-Steam achievement, probably one of the hardest platform game related stuff I did and have documented was getting 100% on MoneySeize. That game is hardcore.

I love the genre but its pretty hard for me. That said, my stats might not be quite good enough but I'm actually pretty proud of my vvvvvv and Dead Cells progress at least (though I haven't retired from either game but its a bit of a struggle to unlock the remaining achievements in them, hehe).

Also pardon my general last 2 weeks playtime, we've been renovating my house (one room left to paint, thank god) so I haven't had as much free time as of late but it will be back to normal soon.

I think that the game looks pretty mediocre at best, so even though I love hard platformers I'll leave this one for others ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
Maybe it is. But it is relatively new and based on the Steam activity, it slipped maybe lower under the radar than it should have. If I can put some indie games that were good enough to end up on the Humble Store and/or GOG at least on some wish/want lists, then these forum topics I do sometimes were worth it.

Checks the game's achievements.
Well, there aren't any "beat the game without ever dying" or "speedrun through everything" achievements (cough unlike Super Meat Boy cough) so consider me interested. :D
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams - Not particularly hard but apparently people complained enough for the devs to add "Easy" mode so I'll claim it counts. Also it's a great game! :D
Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight - So fun that I wanna play the rest of the series now.
Volgarr the Viking - Since you count Momodora this one would count too, right? :P
They Bleed Pixels - I haven't 100%-ed this one... I really should go back to it and 100% it at some point...
Shantae: Risky's Revenge and Shantae and the Pirate's Curse - These are super fun. Also they are super easy... so consider this a recommendation to try them out too. :D
Rabi-Ribi - Also haven't 100%-ed this one. Which is basically a crime since it's one of the best metroidvania bullet-hell platformers ever! It will happen eventually... soon™.

Hmmm... Well, I can try :D
Unfortunately I don't have a huge number of the achievements from SMB (only 9) because almost all of my playtime was on the DRM free version. However, it's possibly my favourite game of all time, as evidenced by my glowing review. As for achievements in similar games, well, nothing really compares to meatboy :D

You would think so, wouldn't you?! But everything I look up (including things I would have sworn I played 100% on Steam) my stats insist that I played it DRM free or offline. It's kind of uncanny...
I have loved playing Braid, Capsized, Cave Story, both Escape Goat games (to be fair, I only own the 2nd on steam, and that does at least show the achievement for freeing all 16 sheep souls - but only 3.5 hours played? No challenges completed? No!!), No Time to Explain, Rogue Legacy (which actually shows quite a few achievements, but none for killing the bosses! I've completed it! Gah...), Shovel Knight (which, to be fair, I do remember only completing DRM free, and steam is accurate in saying I haven't touched it...), Spelunky, Stealth Bastard, The Swapper (which actually does show 100% completed - but in barely over an hour played?! Nope!)... I could go on!
In short - Steam is weird, and as a result I can't really statistically demonstrate the depth of my love for difficult platformers...

Hope you don't mind this detour in the thread too much (does fit the genre of game though) talgaby, but I'd like to recommend the game Robbie Swifthand and the Orb of Mysteries - I'm really enjoying playing it! :D
It's in early access but very polished, they've also released the demo on Steam.
You have to navigate the level, avoiding traps to collect an orb. Once you have the orb you need to throw it into a portal to open the exit...
The visuals, lighting, animation are very, very good, but very importantly the character controls marvellously! <3 :D The level design and trap placement are also very well thought out, there's also good humour in them as well. The levels aren't unfair - it often feels like a puzzle, working out how to get to the exit. Nice music, sound effects, really good stuff!
Two modes, Normal and Hell, for each level. Normal is normal, Hell seems crazy at first but with perseverance will become manageable (skills improve, knowledge of traps etc)...
Guys, try the demo!!! \o/ Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the early demo (was at GameJolt) and, currently, the early access game!!! :)

Linked games were VVVVVV (completed flip mode on my phone with ALL trinkets, yes even that one. No achievement for steam thou), Spelunky and Rogue Legacy.
In my old days I completed Titus the Fox, The Lion King, the first Rayman game (talk about difficult platformers), well. I like hard platformers.

Metroidvania, pixel art, high challenge rating. This retrograde style is very much in fashion ever since I Wanna be the Guy popularised it a decade ago, and many of the prominent titles in this sub-subgenre even shed the meme-ish approach and created rather serious atmosphere around their relentless concept.
It is a game type I personally cannot enjoy, but I know many people do. This topic is for them.
Simply put, I have a giveaway running for Dungeon Gambit Boy, a pixel art difficult platformer that is is more or less a spiritual successor to Super Meat Boy, only not as juicy (or, IMO, disgusting in its style). This giveaway is for my whitelist, which is currently empty (and will be empty again once this little event ends).
To get on said whitelist, simply convince me to get there. How? Normally, I asked for specific achievements, now I ask for achievements in general. Achievements of similar games, like the aforementioned Super Meat Boy, or Axiom Verge, Cave Story, Super Win the Game, Castle in the Darkness, the Momodora series, or anything being a metroidvania-ish, retro, or challenging platformer.
Simply link me achievement pages of you showing some care about at least one such game, where you went to get those challenges, tried to push against the game's difficulty and conquered it. This way I know you are the kind of person who would try to tackle this one as well.
I have to mention that this is just a simple event where I want to reward fans of a genre, just because I felt like it. I actually paid my own money for this key. If you ever wonder why I put this here, there was a reason for it.
I will not respond to individual applications, I just list whoever went through here. If your name is here but you cannot see the giveaway, write again, I may have misclicked.
The giveaway runs until 2018-04-22 16:00 UTC (this Sunday noon for the US East Coast, before someone tries to convert it ^.^). Apply until 5 hours before it ends. I will not bump the topic, I am always interested how many would care to keep it alive for five days.
Added so far:
KillingArts, aRo93, HoLYAssAsIN, FilthySouls, th4, falloutdude83, Ameto, haedaeso, Zlia, PsychoApeMan,
