When I launched the game for the first time, I would have never imagined that one day it would beat all of my games' playtime on Steam. Turns out, I may just be addicted (not really). RIP Just Cause 2, and now Skyrim. You both have to settle for second and third place, now.

Any reason is a good reason when there's a giveaway involved :)
I was just remembering that JC2 ruled over your library for a long time, you were quite vocal about it, and then Skyrim took over just to be dethroned soon after. Poor dragonborn, he got arrowed to the knee.

And if I ever upgrade my RAM, who knows, maybe Just Cause 3 will take over. (Yes, 8GB is not enough)

8GB isn't enough? I have 12 and I fear I'll soon start to run into games that'll want more than that. Trying to keep up with hardware is never good for the wallet.

At least RAM is a fairly cheap addition to an existing build.

Just Cause 3 has one of the worse PC optimization of 2015, probably. Crashes, stuttering, framedrops... Yeah, no. I'll wait until it's actually fucking playable.

Been trying the game some, love the playstyle, hate the gender locked classes and how you must play a woman for many of the classes and they over sexualize them with it.

How a combat system should be but you see more TnA than a porno.

Comment has been collapsed.

+1 So much this. If they release a new class and when they do, it better not be a class locked to woman only. Even worse if it's Elin only. That would be beyond ridiculous.

Pretty much.

If you want to be a gunner, can't look like the Terminator with his minigun, instead you get to look like Aeon Flux and even her character select screen looks like she is trying to dry hump the gun.

Want to be a ninja, can't look like ninja gaiden or anything, you are stuck looking like a 7 year old version of Yuffy from Final Fantasy 7 doing cosplay where even she looks sexualized.

Want to be a Brawler, can't get someone looking like Sabin from Final Fantasy 6 or any other actual monk type, nope, you get another bikini model with big gloves.

Half the girls armor looks like something between a bikini or a thong with no way to actually dress like a real warrior or even casually at all. Wouldn't suck so bad if you could at least choose a male character.

Gunner is my favorite class, and so far one of the only classes in which some of the armor skin from the fashion coupons shop looks... acceptable. Not great, but acceptable.

Guess I might have to try them, limited to only 2 character slots and I am too broke to buy anything otherwise I would just find a disc and get the founders status.

With 2 slots, limits your ability to try them out.

Comment has been collapsed.

I got 4 slots on Highwatch just by playing actively. :P
But yes, limitations kinda suck. Luckily you can create 2 characters per server by default, and there are like, 3 PvE servers if I recall correctly.

Comment has been collapsed.

Yep, 3 PvP, 3 PvE I think. I am one who prefers to put all my stuff on one server.

Haven't managed to play too much though, real life stuff keeping me busy all summer so can't play anything I can't pause and walk away from at a moments notice.

Edit: Off to bed, can't respond anymore. Night.

Yeah, MMORPGs require a lot of dedication. You can't really just quit for a long time and then get back in the game, you'll be completely lost with the controls/layout/progress.

Comment has been collapsed.

That's why TERA (or any other MMO) isn't my most-played. When you only have a short time to play, and that infrequently, MMO's take a back seat. I gave up multiplayer games a while ago for similar reasons. Ever tried to find players at 400am?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I generally avoid multiplayer games as well, unless I can solo. Mainly because of:

  1. Crappy internet connection (never know when it'll be stable enough to play)
  2. Lack of people willing to play
  3. Reason stated above; I'm not dedicated enough to just play (and master) one game
8 years ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, it's one of the reasons I stopped playing. I had founder status and all that but when new classes started coming out as race/gender locked I just shrugged and moved on to other games.

It's VERY gear dependent. You can farm up all the gear without spending a dime, but it takes time, and a lot of grinding. Then you have to +15 all your gear once you get it, and that shit is crazy expensive because when you fail past a certain level it downgrades. Oh, and then after you +15, you'll want to reroll for the perfect stat bonuses, and make sure you have the best crystals in them as well.

After you get all the gear though, it won't mean shit if you can't aim your skills though, since practically everything is a skill shot. It's a fun game, I dumped about 450 hours into it, but I finally got the best gear (after spending money), and then they released new gear that made it obsolete, and I didn't want to grind again.

I remember a friend wanting me to get into that one waaay back when... I think I even did play it in beta for a bit.
But I try to stay away from MMOs for the most part. Then again, The Secret World's been sucking up a ton of my play hours recently, so I definitely understand the surprising addiction! :)
Also, thanks/bump!

This game never hoked me unfotunately. Is it one of those games that gets good after x amount of hours?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hmm... yes/no.
Gameplay wise, it's so far been pretty much the same.
I think it's just the experience (and my wanting to finish all the things) that keeps me playing. Also, if I were a more social person, it would probably be way better. That said, I definitely think it has a very slow start, and I'm only really in the second big area (besides the three main faction hub "cities"), the first "big area" being comprised of four other fairly large areas, the starting town of Kingsmouth being one.
Character building-wise, I feel like I didn't really get to choose much beyond just trying to make do in the first big area. Near the end of that, I felt like I could finally start experimenting with my chosen build. So, that's definitely part of the slow start, since that will take a good number of hours to get to that point.
It's difficult to recommend continuing, seeing's as you have put seven hours into it, but if it had struck a chord with you, I'd definitely recommend to keep going. As it hasn't... I don't know if it ever really will, and unlike some classic must-play games, I can't really say that you'll be missing out.
Also, I've never played World of Warcraft, so I have no idea what normal MMO conventions are, but everyone says this game is more story driven than other MMOs. I'll agree that it's a lot like playing a gigantic single-player game but there are also lots of other players around. And some of the puzzles are nice. Some other puzzles... well, I didn't really feel like learning to decode morse code by ear, so I looked up the solution. And... unfortunately... there's a few out-of-left-field solutions that make perfect sense when you know the solution, but when you don't, you have nothing around to verify that it's not one of millions of other options, so you feel like you're throwing rocks at a mountain to try to knock it down until you find the exact right spot to hit it.
Also, checked the timestamp on my screenshots, and after seven hours, I was still in the first Kingsmouth area, and hadn't even solved a good puzzle yet, so if you're still there, maybe keep going through to the Savage Coast, and maybe some other areas. If it still doesn't grab you, don't worry about it. The atmosphere was definitely very different from what I had been expecting prior to playing, and it's definitely more 99%-of-the-time-brooding than I'd really prefer.

Thank you for the detailed reply.

I think the biggest problem in my case is in fact that I have played World of Warcraft for quite some time. And I read somewhere that once you have played WoW, you will always compare other MMOs to WoW. In my case I haven't found MMO that has been as fun as WoW when I was playing it.

Did they ever add more than one raid to that game?

I ended up quitting because I got tired of farming for those scrolls (I forget what they're called now) to upgrade your armor and weapons, and failing 200+ times in a row on one piece of armor (I was wrong) my lance. -_-

It has different publishers for the EU and US. When it first released on steam there was no region lock and the EU publisher had a hissy fit and the US publisher had to region lock it.

I've been playing Tera since last July (with a three month break in between) and it's been fun. Unfortunately, I started losing interest with it around the time the FIHM patch dropped and HW server seems to be dying with many players transferring to bigger servers.

Been playing it less and less lately but I finally did craft my SF gun and got it to +15. That was basically my goal and I was just too bored/lazy to grind for it. And now that I've finally achieved that, I'm gonna quit/take a break when my Elite sub expires next month.

The combat is easily the best part about it for me but it gets boring doing the same dungeon 100's of times... I haven't even bothered to do/learn MM and probably won't before I stop playing.

But grats btw. I play it w/o steam so I have no idea how many hours I'd have which is probably a good thing :P
