I have this odd problem with Untappd on my Android phone.
(Untappd is like a facebook for beergeeks. You share and rate the beers you tasted, comment, etc.)

Every time I use the manual search function it adds a word to the one I typed.
At this moment its "ik" (Its Dutch for I / me), wich is always highlighted.

So searching for barrel space aged space results in "barrelik agedik"

  • Untappd is the only app this happens to.
  • I deleted and reinstalled the app without succes.
  • I've been using untappd for multiple years, never had this before
  • Its been going on for a couple of weeks, not sure but possibly after an app update.
  • Reset setting in the Untappd app, nothing changed.
  • When I delete the word " ik" from the history the same will happen with the next word in line (see 2nd pic below).
  • These words in line come from my Untappd history, I used them describing a beer).

Btw, I'm unwilling to reset my phone because of this. Like I said its only Untappd with this problem. ;)

I made some pictures....

here you see me typing barrel, you see "ik" highlighted at the bottom for some unknown reason:
Then I hit space because I want to add a word to my search.
This happens
Me every time this happens

Its probably something with the app itself. I contacted them but they havent replied (yet).
Maybe, just maybe, someone else here has an explantion or a solution.

Thanks for reading

Not expecting a solution, just wanted to vent my anger ;) I'll be allright btw

EDIT:
Got a reply from Untappd: I apologize for the inconvenience. This is something we have been experiencing with third-party keyboard applications on Android devices. Unfortunately, we do not support third-party keyboard applications - but we have heard word that there should be an update from the application provider in the next week or so to help remedy these issues.

I actually use Untappd, but never had anything like that issue, sorry. Maybe it's a language thing?

I switched phone settings to English to check it out. Same problem, different words. But thanks for your suggestion.

It sounds like the auto correction for spelling is turned on. Try turning off this feature and it should help. Or if you want to keep the auto correction on, just add the words to your phone.

just re-type the word again and it will appear below with other options (words to pick from) and just double tap the word you want to keep and it will add it. So next time you type it, it will remember it.

It isnt the autocorrection. It adds the very same word to whatever I type.
I turned autocorrection off (Huawei Swype). Still the same problem.
I turned every Swype setting available off and still the same (including the autospace option, which seems disabled in Untappd)

Using the Gboard (my only alternative option atm) instead of swype fixes the problem.

I'll be using that one for now... but swype really is the faster and easier for most of the apps on my phone.

It seems to be a problem with your keyboard's predictions.

Other apps it predicts just fine.

So?
You can't change the app, you can just report the bug to them and try to avoid it on your end.
Try a new keyboard or not pressing enter so there is no word insertion.

I did, as I posted a few cm above this post.
Gboard works fine.
I think you mean " dont press space", but thats not an option

Gboard works fine.

Then you already know it's a problem with how the other one and the app interact.
Might try changing the keyboard's settings if you insist on using that one, assuming there's any setting you can't see or haven't tried, otherwise report that to swift as well.

Also look at when the apps were last updated, maybe you can figure out which one changed something.

Thanks for your help

I think you can long tap (tap and hold) on "ik", and remove it from the auto correct dictionary. Also, if auto correct adds text, tapping backspace immediately might revert it to be exactly what you typed?

yes I'm able to remove " ik" . But it just takes the next word in line. Rince & repeat. I deleted about 20 already.....
Backspace removes just the last space.
So it adds Ik+space when I press space ;) Learned something new here, lol.

Thanks for the help figuring this out

Does backspace revert the correction?

It's strange and annoying that this app would behave differently. You would think the keyboard/auto correct would be the same across all apps. Sorry.

If clearing data and reinstalling untapped didn't help, I would try clearing cache and data for swype and, if that doesn't help, I'd try reinstalling swype.

The shit thing is, my Swype (Huawei - Swype) is preinstalled. I cant open the app or clear its cache.
So my guess is the only way to do that is a full phone reset. Which is to much trouble for me to get just 1 app to work properly.

I'm gonna stick to Gboard for now. And hope its an app issue which will get resolved at some next update.

Then you'd need to root your phone to be able to really mess with it.

Allright. Got my explanation.
