Hello folks.

Looking for replacement of my current one: Plantronics GameCom 788. The best sound quality I've heard so far for the last 8-9 years.

I've tried and returned so far:

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX - the best sound so far from all of them, but not good enough, maybe I am just too picky. :-)
A40 TR Headset + MixAmp Pro TR
Sennheiser PC 373D
Arctis 5
RIG 500E
Razer Kraken 7.1 V2

Any recommendations are appreciated.

I use a GAMDIAS Hephaestus 2 Headset but I'm not sure I would recommend it. I've had to change them out every year. (I had three boxes, don't ask, long story) Every time the speaker part would get disconnected and I would need to glue it back in, and on occasion one side will stop playing music so I would need to adjust the wires where they are plugged in.
I'll be following this thread for recommendations as well. uwu

i actually use creative sxifi 7.1 with the usb wire and i'm happy with it,but for the music i has need create one my personal filter settings (this https://i.imgur.com/hKVdZNI.jpg )because i don't like the bass is much strong,i prefer + to hear voice and less "bum bum".

This said i all headphones for me,also if is selled as 5.1 or 7.1 i never feel it,i always feel only stereo, and this happen for all brands of headphones that i try in my life more than 50...

the only time i feel 5.1 or 7.1 is when i listen in home of people normal speakers system,so personally i stop to believe about the 5.1\7.1 in headphones..

Anyway this creative for videogames sound very good to me if activate "battle mode" i'm happy with it.

This said i'm NOT an expert or audiophile,i'm just normal gamer.

the only bored thing is the first time you use this headphones you must scan your ears with an android app,but this need to be done only 1 time, after that the scan is saved in the cloud sxfi app for pc windows 10\11 so you only need to do login email\pass for reload it,and this is needed only if you want to use the superxifi or game mode,if you use it viceversa like normal headphones not need it.

me like battle mode for games, and superxifi normal for music, then i go equalizer and activate that config show you in the image.

the app enable you also to activate\disable the rgb

the headphones has also button for up\low volume, change rgb to color or rainbow or enable\disable
and have also button for cycle superxifi mode (battle for game, normal for music or disabled)
headphones will talk you with voice advice you what you do "rgb is on,rgb is off" etc. "battle mode activated"

I'd say €200-250 is max that I am ready to spend. Especially when 788 were just €50 back then. 6XX are good, but compared to 788 - not good enough. I was expecting much more tbh.

Lol, i have some similar skullcandy dime and music sounds pretty good when im at work. Although ive never used them for videogames.
Im pretty cheap that way...i also have a krom kyuss headset laying around, the sound is pretty good for something that cost less than 20€. I would of course not recommend any product from krom, its all just cheap uncomfortable plastic and prone to failures, technical issues and easily breakable...its a childrens toy that didnt need to sound as good as it does and ive been lucky enough to have one that still works.

I'm using Audiotechnica ATH-AVC500. They have very good sound quality (really good), they are black without LED's and similar useless stuff, it's big, so your ears are fully inside it, they are really comfortable... It has only one serious flaw as a gaming headset - it's lack of the microphone :-D

I wanted to try the ATH-G1 one, but couldn't get it because the only one store was in the UK. Long story.
But yeah, I've heard a lot of good stuff about Audio Technica.

I'm using a Kingston Hyper X Cloud II. Can't say how the quality differs from your old HS, but I love this one.

Are you looking for a "classic" 2.0 (or possibly 2.1) stereo headphone or a 5.1/7.1 surround one?

Well, my old ones were with 7.1 dolby surround sound on, so probably something similar or even stereo if that could beat the sound quality.

In my experience the best sound often comes from headphones rather than a headset. If you are looking for top quality sound you can't go wrong with Bose. One of my family members is a big audio guy and he tests and buys a lot of speakers and headsets, he highly recommends the Bose 700.

I'd say €400 is kinda too much for me, but I will take a look.

Searched for a long time for suitable gaming / all purpose headphones for around 100 - 150€.
Tested Logitech G Pro X, Sennheiser Game Zero, Razer Barracuda / Blackshark... even the mightly cheap Anker Soundcore Q30.

Ended up buying a pair of Black Friday-ish HyperX Cloud Alpha, very happy with them!

I use Sennheiser HD 600 with a Zalman ZM-MIC1 for my games - works for me, a little different sound than HD 6XX you liked the most so far (those are based off HD 650) but it's not like completely different worlds. Make sure that your headphones amp is up for the task when using such power-hungry cups mate!

Checkout Phillips Fidelio X2. They are great pair of cans.

Also forget about "gaming headsets".

Personally I've been using for the past year a pair of DT 990 Pro, and the only downsides I have with them so far is that the plastic pieces that hold the speaker forks started to crack from normal use, and the other issue is that not all games support the bit my interface runs at so I have to switch to the Cloud Alpha S if I want to play SOME old or new games such as Naruto or Cyberpunk 2077, otherwise audio artifacts will play for me.

But audio quality wise is very nice, widens the stage for audio as they're open back headphones.

If you want the best sounding headphones without touching the premium high-end spectrum, you will not find anything better than the Beyerdynamic MMX 300 .
It blows every other headphone in it's price range and below out of the water. It is a Stereo 2.0 headphone, mind you. But you can use a picture of your right ear and their software to modulate Surround Sound, which works incredibly well, I have to say.

BUT: The microphone is decent, but not better than decent. It does it's job, but it is not the best you can get.

So, if you can live with a decent mic but want the best sound quality available, buy the MMX 300. If you want the best mic, you might want to test a Sennheiser (although their sound quality can vary drastically from headset to headset, so you need to do some testing).

I don't really care about "the best" microphone, so probably could give it a try.

Superlux hd681 - cheapest of all, direct competition for Hyperx Cloud II
Beyerdynamic DT 880 - for accurate, fast and natural signature
Hifiman Sundara - for cheaper planar headphones with unique bass
HiFiMAN HE-560 - for better planar bass but less of an upgrade than price would suggest, get only if you can find some good deal or slightly used pair
Audeze lcd-2 classic - for best planar balance and bass before going into some ungodly prices and electrostatic headphones
Sennheiser hd600 - all time classic, darker and less resolving than rest of the list however a lot of people choose them for their fun, musical and not fatiguing sound (personally didn't like them)
Sennheiser hd660 - similar to HD6xx from drop, slightly more neutral
Focal Elex - direct upgrade over HD6xx/HD660, one of the best sounding headphones I've got however they're hard to get and there are some troubles regarding QC and pads replacement

Half of year of using Logitech G432 (medium-low price range)
5,1 is ok, on higher frequency is not perfect
signs of wear: nothing (after 3-4 fall to the grunt),
to wear: for my head and ears is good
No annoying bold on the cable: volume is on back of headphone, mic is on only when is down
Use mostly on gaming

Fiio K3. Alternatively I'd recommend the HD 58x if you don't want to spend extra on an amp/dac.

If you're interested in earbuds I'd recommend checking out the Fii0 FH3, sometimes prefer listening to them over the HD6XX.
The Moondrop Blessing2:Dusk (which is a revised version of the standard Blessing2) is also supposed to be very good, though I haven't tried that one.

Okay folks. Got my new toy called Beyerdynamic MMX-300 2. Generation and I'd say I am pleasantly surprised. Without any amp the sound quality is better than Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX or anything else I had before. I am pretty much happy.
Not even sure if I need an amp, will see.

Big thanks to all of you. o/
