Hello beautiful people and welcome to Winner's Remorse, an event made by my guilty conscience!

To ease you into it, I have been a part of this community since late 2012, and have won a great number of games. Having said that, there have been a lot of games that I've won and did not really like or, for some reason, they did not really click with me. You can say that I feel remorseful as the winner of those games. Winner's remorse. Trademarked.

Anyways, in light of that, I have decided to make a personal forum event. I will give away games that I have won on this site, the ones which I did not really like and kind of regret winning, in a semi non-insulting way.

To make these giveaways as much financially painless for myself as possible, I'll do them in waves of 2 or 3, I hope that will be enough. Or maybe I will have hit a jackpot by the time of making this thread in the future, and all games are revealed at the moment. But probably not, knowing my luck. A man can dream at least, eh?

So here is the general info on the event:

14 Games. All of them from my won list, or at least closely related to a game from my won list, ordered chronologically by my won date. You can try and guess which ones are in the mix, if you give a hoot.

Invite-only, level 2, anti-bot measures.

They will be revealed in a wave or two, so keep an eye out on the thread, will update it in time, if some giveaways remain unrevealed.

Read the giveaway descriptions, I'll write some stories about the won games and why they're on "the list", some are really confession-level descriptions.

Feel free to share the giveaway links if you have SG friends. Or even better, refer them to this thread, it's a cool story which I hope will catch on with some users...Or do a bumpy bump, at least.

On a serious note, I have been concocting the event for a while now. I originally wanted to replicate the won giveaways to a tee, but how would I do the group-specific ones? Should the public ones be made public and the exact level like when I won it originally? Then I realized that the forum event style would be for the best as, in the end, the only thing I care is giving the games back to the active and cool community. I'm writing this in October, to give myself enough time to gather as much keys as I can for the event, and also I wanted to have everything typed in advance and ready to launch as soon and quickly as possible.

So have fun, and if someone wants to use this idea, improve upon it, or whatever, feel free to do so. I bet each one of you have at least one game you wish you hadn't won, so what are you waiting for? Save some money and give back, you'll sleep better at night!

The Remorseful Ones:

  1. The Binding of Isaac - ended
  2. iBomber Defense Pacific - ended
  3. Crazy Machines 1.5 - ended
  4. AquaNox - ended
  5. Pirates of Black Cove - ended
  6. Nether - ended
  7. Castle Crashers - ended
  8. Dreamcast Collection - ended
  9. Mercenary Kings - ended
  10. Okhlos - ended
  11. Orcs Must Die 2 Complete Pack - ended
  12. Orwell: Keeping an Eye on You - ended
  13. Cultist Simulator - ended
  14. Steamworld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech - ended

Addendum: Some of these games will be keys, some will be Steam gifts for which I will have to add you on Steam. Have in mind that my region is Europe (Serbia) when you enter giveaways. I will write every bit of info about region restrictions that I can gather into the giveaways' descriptions so as to avoid any unnecessary problems/rerolls.
I'm pretty new with steam gifting directly and regions in general, so please don't be mad if I mess something up. Let's do this as smooth as possible, peeps! For the steam gifts region differences, I am using the "10% price rule" that I've found on the SG forums, will link it here for those who are unaware of it.

CLOSING UPDATE: Thank you for participating in my event, my conscience is clear, the games after Gilgamech are the ones I have enjoyed or will enjoy (at least up until Torchlight 2, at the time of this writing). We'll see if this old dog will learn new tricks or I'll feel shitty again after winning some games in the future. Who knows. You don't. I don't.

Until we meet again, read some books, be curious about everything, expand your knowledge and skill set, and think with your own head kids, ciao.

There are two main lists of regret games for me: ones I won and didn’t like, and ones I won and then ended up getting the bundle they were in afterwards, but being guilty when I haven’t played the won game.
I generally try and play the games I won in a timely manner, but there are maybe about 6 I still haven’t touched yet. Maybe that’ll be my New Years resolution XD

I have been careful about my entries the whole time I've been here, and I think I'm good at playing my wins... but my mistake is Hotline Miami. I realized right when I started playing that it wasn't for me, I spent an hour and I will never touch the game again. I feel bad, but lesson learned.

I wouldn't call winning Fallout 3 a mistake, but selling the game on Steam as it is right now is downright a scam. For me, autosave crashes the game, so I had to turn it off. I can only save manually, and even then the game can still crash, so I'd have to stop the game and save all the time if I want to play it. It doesn't exactly make playing the game fun. It's a shame.

never played hotline miami, but I played that mr something game that's the same, i liked it actually. As for Fallout 3, it's a great game, too bad about the problems, maybe nexus mods have a fix for the problems, did you google for solution?

I do believe Hotline Miami is a good game, but popularity doesn't mean it's for everyone :/ I've learned not to go for a game just because I hear good things about it.

I've done some Fallout 3 fixing (in the beginning the game wouldn't even start) but when the game crashed after forgetting to save for an hour I lost the mood to continue playing, and then it just got lost in the backlog. I'll surely come back to the game in the future and try to make it work, but I also think I want to get through New Vegas first.

And I thought I was the only one who didn't like Horline Miami, and I also won it here... but I ended up feeling bad and I beated the game.

Hi,
thanks in general, nice idea.

I am in a hurry so i only want to comment short your bot protection.
Good effort but it will bring nearly nothing because the bots normaly grab only the 5 digit code and use a template for the rest.
So if you want to some effective stuff then add a number or letter to the 5 digit code, to make it a 6 digit one and write in the link which need to be deleted.

This is a cool idea; it's always sad when a game goes to someone who doesn't end up enjoying it and this is a cool way to pay it forward and give someone else a shot at them (without violating SG's rules about regifting, haha!)

I can't say that I regret any of my wins, although I have certainly enjoyed some more than others. A couple wins were hard to 100% because of grindy achievements and therefore got a bit annoying, but I enjoyed playing all of them at least somewhat. Tbf, I am pretty selective in what giveaways I enter these days and make sure to check out a game's steam page and maybe a let's play video before entering for any games not already on my wish list. My less cautious days were also profoundly unlucky ones, lol, so I didn't have to suffer through any winner's remorse :)

Although, I am sad to see that this event will ruin your perfect won:sent ratio ;-)

Honestly, I don't really regret any of the games I've won, except the first one (some terrible shark game). lol. I entered that because I was a noob and didn't really think I'd win anything.

I've had the best of intentions in playing my games (won and bought), but life's been a total asshole to me over the past few years. I think "ah, I'll have more time to play soon," and something else happens. Anyone who didn't know me would say I made it all up for the attention (or something like that.) Recently, I've been playing more deckbuilders and that kind of thing. Games that don't have too much of a frustrating element to them because it's what my mental health needs. I will get around to playing those wins eventually.

I'm not particularly a game hoarder, just kinda treated bundle buying as a sort of "retail therapy" when I was stuck inside and wasn't able to do very much. I'm definitely behaving myself in that regard now. lol.

A long time ago, in a land far far away (...actually, only a few years ago and only on the other side of Europe, but whatever...), I still thought I might enjoy multiplayer-only games some day. Well, turns out I hate those games. I guess I could primary thank Dota 2 and Skullgirls for that (no, they're not SG wins) : Dota 2 taught me that no matter how much I try to be the peacemaker, random people can be absolutely terrible to everyone and everything (this is also in effect for co-op games), particularly in team-based games; and Skullgirls taught me that even when others are polite and friendly... I just didn't like playing against other humans- there will always be someone better and hopelessly losing against them over and over with no change makes it feel like I'm not progressing at all, meanwhile even when I win against someone weaker than me I can't shake the feeling that I'm giving them the same feeling, like this pointless "victory" of mine is at the cost of someone else's happiness. When PvP is involved, someone always has to lose... So Nuclear Dawn, PAYDAY: The Heist, Guns of Icarus Online and Special Forces: Team X will forever remain unplayed... pretty sure they are all stone cold dead at this point anyway (last one doesn't even have a store page anymore). I'm an asshole for taking them when someone else might have actually played them when they were still alive. T.T

There are a few "bad" games I've won that now make me go "WTF WAS I THINKING?!" (Why does Homefront even exist?) but I think I feel a lot worse about the universally agreed upon "good" games that I didn't like for one reason or another. There were a few of those... but I think the most recent one stings the most (perhaps because it's the most recent one...). I don't know if I was in a particularly bad mood or if the game is just overhyped, but despite 100%-ing it (because I could and because OCD), I still feel like I strongly disliked Hollow Knight. I can't even pinpoint why... I guess it's because it depressed me and never managed to cheer me up even a little? Nonetheless, it's a game which the giveaway creator said they really liked and I got the impression that they wanted to share it with more people (which is something that I aim to do with my own giveaways...)... and I just messed that all up by moodily not liking it. I'm probably overthinking this, but still can't shake off the feeling... :/

Ok, I should probably stop before this gets even longer. In general I really liked most of the games I won on SG (heck, some of my favourite games came from here) and I guess even the... missteps should lead to learning from our mistakes... right?... :/

I only have won 3 games, but all 3 are games Im looking forward to play...Im just too stupid addicted to play DBD and DBFZ, my backlog just keeps growing but gives me some sense of security to know the games are there and ready. I do not enter any giveaway of a game Im not looking forward to play in the near future.

But I do feel guilty not playing them soon enough since I won them.

Bump for a wonderful idea.
I do regret a couple of my earliest wins, but I learned from them to only ever wishlist games or only ever after I've fully researched it. Then again I loved "Your Bunny Wrote" even though it would never have made it into my wish list. So yay? At least I've learned and, as my one childhood favorite author put it, "He returned home, a sadder, but wiser, engine." (Rev. Awdry in one of the Thomas the Tank Engine books.)

I do really regret winning that one VR-only game.... I don't have VR, nor do I foresee ever getting VR, or at least not anytime soon. I wish that had gone to someone else.

Bumping!

I've regretted a couple games that I've won myself, I only ever entered giveaways for games that I thought I'd like but sometimes you just end up not liking a game as much as you thought you were going to unfortunately

Thank you for the generous event though of course!

I'm ashamed to admit I regret my only win from this site. I don't even remember joining a giveaway for Tools Up, but after checking my entered history I joined two. I must have been in some sort of morning daze to enter a giveaway for a co-op game that none of my friends owned. I'm not exactly sure how remote play works, but that might be a solution to my problem? The premise of the game itself seems dull to me, though.

Anyway, thanks for the giveaways. My one friend was addicted to Isaac at one point and I'd like to see what the big fuss is about. Have a nice holiday season!

remote play is perfect for you because your friend does not need to own the game. just launch the game, and invite your friend to play with you via the overlay.

you're welcome for the GAs and good luck

There were some games that i didn't enjoy from my win list, but it is not so bad that i regret my decision for participating. Solenars edge champions hit close to the mark though. I almost went insane from all the repetitive things. I'm glad that i have a lot of tolerance for rpg maker games at least.

I only join games from my wishlist and always check which games I add there. Don't want to clutter up my steam account with games that I won't play =)

I only take games that I really want to play, so I have no regrets.
The only moment was with the Go! Go! Nippon! game - right after I won it, it was given for free to everyone in the steam store. Therefore, there was no big need to enter this giveaway 😄

I am too picky on which games I enter. Only click on the wishlist GA tab and then enter only those that I think I will play within a year. Well I do enter GA from threads too.
It wasn't the same when I was new to the site. I entered everything, thankfully my lower level meant lower chances of winning (in terms of total number of entries). Most of my early wins came from Unlucky-7 which I think is the reason why I don't have to regret my wins because of the group rules. You can only stay in the group till the 8th win and that group had the better odds for winning GA, so normally people become picky on which GA they enter.
One win that I came so close to regret was Hyper Light Drifter. That game was extremely difficult to play in KBM for me. I didn't have a controller and had never played in controller. So I almost gave up on it. But last month I was finally able to beat the game in lowest difficulty through KBM. So finally I don't have any wins that I have to regret on now. The game was not that bad.

If I am guessing the games I think you regretted would be METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES based on the total playtime you got on it. My second guess would be Mercenary Kings: Reloaded Edition.

I am glad you find my comment helpful, but I am not sure if it will work 100% of the time. I saw some comments in a related topic, that some user wasn't not able to gift game from Steam even though that user followed ±10% rule. I think the user might have been from CIS steam block. Since you mentioned you are from Serbia, I am assuming you fall under the same Steam regional block. Steam might have some other rules too... like strictly restricting gift sharing within that region only. I don't have anything to verify it. I guess you will be the one testing it properly. May I ask how many GAs are steam-gifts? As for me, up til now I've been able to deliver my Stem gifts 100% of the time. I think one of the game had almost 13-14% price difference, but sticking to 10% would be wise. Please let me know the outcome of the steam gifts.

guess I'll check the 10% rule, I'll let you know. I have only 5 games that are gifts, the rest are all keys. I fall into the EU region, as far as I know.

My bad. If you are in the EU region then you may have to look at only few countries, mostly Japan, Israel, UK and couple of other countries I think. All the best :)

hey man, had no problems with the 10 percent rule, and had winners from different regions on some giveaways, it worked for me, just letting you know.
Most price difference regions above 10 I excluded, except for one which was like 9.83% difference, I excluded that region just in case

In my case, quite differently from some people above, I don't regret any of my wins.
I tend to enter giveaways for "games I feel I might enjoy playing or seem interesting in some way". Alas, you never quite know if you'll enjoy the game until you try it. If all of us had years of experience playing games of every type to thoroughly refine our tastes, there wouldn't be anything new to play for any of us anymore :(
Fortunately for me, there were some wins RAZED <3 that were a happy accident resulting in a lot of joy, but I've had some games I found out I don't like as well. In the end, if I didn't find that out, I'd still chase after them thinking I'll probably want to play them, so winning them helped me figure out my gaming tastes a little bit more.

I've only regretted one game and it was a HOG, turns out I just don't like to do 50 elaborate things to open a door.
Other than that though I've been pretty satisfied with everything, I tend to just enter for stuff that looks like I would play it but I've had fantastic games turn sour with bad endings.

I really like this thread for some reason -- empathy, maybe? I read all your GA descriptions just to see what was the case in each one. :D

I also have a "remorseful" list that is bigger then I would like to admit... Here, let me list them just to organize my thoughts -- maybe I will eventually get the energy to start a thread like yours and GA them so I can clear my conscience too. :D

  1. Two Brothers: this was an accident, I thought it was Brothers: a Tale of Two Sons (idiot!). But I will still give it a try someday. Maybe.
  2. Glass Wing: I played this for some 4 hours or so, and the controls were so incredibly clunky for me, I simply gave up on it. Might give it a second try someday with a controller, but it will probably be in my pile of shame for a long time. Someone else would probably enjoy it a lot more.
  3. Kentucky Route Zero: it was certainly different, I am glad I played it... but again, someone else would enjoy it a lot more, I think, especially given the raving reviews.
  4. The Lady: I can enjoy a game with weird graphics and gameplay (for example, The Cat Lady is one of my favorite games ever), but I really disliked this one. Someone else etc. etc.
  5. Squake: well, ok, it was a massive 6800 copy GA, but when I finally decided to give this a shot, this MP-only game was already dead.
  6. PES 2016: this is supposed to be a fantastic game, and I will certainly try it sometime, but.... honestly, I have no recollection of entering this GA at all, did I misclick something? Strange... Anyway, all I can do is apologize to the creator and the other 636 entrants... :( :( :(
  7. Cosmonautica: another brain-fart of mine, since I thought this to be Subnautica. Idiot again! :(

Anyway, this is it for now. There are many other (great!) games in my pile-of-shame, but I do not want to list them, because that would make it "I am officially not playing this", and I want to feel guilty about them for a while longer -- or, who knows, even play them in due time. Maybe once I retire... :D

And once again, thank you so much to all GA creators (especially these 7 ones), all gifts were appreciated, even when not... enjoyed. :D

Cheers!
