you should check to make sure your computer isn't infected with some kind of malware or adware that could be sticking their own ads on websites.

Whilst this could well be the case there have been numerous reported instances of problematic ads on the site over the years.

Not really that numerous, couple people with a problem others can't reproduce so it might as well have been malware.

Numerous enough that people who otherwise would won't whitelist the site. I'm not going to go digging out the threads but cg has confirmed issues with ads more than once.

Couple per year is still not that many. And most people responding have never seen the problem. So a tiny minority gets those ads.

Most "victims" don't bother reporting the scam and other malicious ads that appear pretty often on perfectly clean PCs.

It's probably out of cg's control, so we just use ad blockers or go for patreon. Your estimation of "a couple" is just... your estimation.

That's gonna be on your end mate. Whitelisting this page for more than a 5 years now without any issues.

All i got is tiny banner on a main page. I think your computer is infected by adware, i recommend to use decent antivirus tool, Malwarebytes for instance.

It happens to me from time to time. In general, going back of one or two pages by using the browser's back button brings me back to the Steamgifts page (and often with another ad that is not posing this problem).

If I'm not mistaken, these dubious ads are just badly chosen by Google, and Google's choices of ads depend on your country / region, your browsing habits, your searches on Google, ... If you have an account on a Google site (gmail, youtube, google search, ...) you can try to depersonalize these choices of ads by going here in order to make the problem less frequent. But I think it will only work if you are usually logged into a Google account with the browser used for Steamgifts. There is also a form to report the bad advertisings somewhere on this Google site, but I do not think it's really effective.

The only other solution I see is the use of ad blocker (like uBlock Origin) for the time that this problem of annoying bad ads will last.

Edit:
An other solution is to become a patreon (starting at $3 per month) to remove ads while keeping your support for Steamgifts... ^^

This. Even though I would like a site to get advertising revenue, there have been so many instances of hijacked adverts that I'm just not taking any risks...

Ad Blocker Plus and MalWareBytes Browser Guard.
Blocks most annoying ads for me, across the Web.
And TBH, MWB:BG blocks far more ads, trackers, PuPs and other crap than ABP does. And it's also free.
(MalWareBytes Browser Guard is not part of the MalWareBytes standard SW, you do need to install the extension in your browser, only available for Chrome and Firefox right now, it seems.)

APB is more stable and better. uBlock breaks often after Chrome updates and does not work properly with a lot of sites.

Oh, dear lordie. You use Edge?
Why would you hurt yourself that way?

MalWareBytes Browser Guard is pretty good though it is can be very aggressive .
It does stop sites that others don't.
Usually those ones with obfuscated JavaScript or drive-by bad ads.

CG is creating SteamGifts | Patreon
https://www.patreon.com/steamgifts

If you become a patron, the ads will disappear.
Is it a patron but advertising?
Your computer will be contaminated.
I think so.

There was another thread about it a couple months ago from someone who had a similar problem but personally SG is whitelisted and I've never had a problem.
The only adds I see is a small one at the bottom of the page.

Then you don't see all ;o)

At each GA give it adds at the left side under the enter button, to name one example.

That's strange, I don't see any ads on the GA page themselves, well I'm not going to complain...

It sounds like your web browser is hijacked. I'd recommend doing a scan with Malwarebytes to see if it detects anything.

You can get the free version here.

AdwCleaner is pretty good at cleaning up bad ad stuff.
Be prepared to restart your PC afterwards though.
